Elon Musk got $19 billion richer after Tesla's robotaxi launch

Business Insider5 hours ago

Elon Musk's net worth soared by $19 billion on Monday, making him the biggest gainer of the day after Tesla's long-awaited robotaxi launch in Austin, according to Bloomberg's Billionaire Index.
Tesla officially debuted its self-driving taxi service on Sunday to a select group of users in its hometown, charging a flat $4.20 per ride.
The EV maker's employees still accompanied riders for safety, but the service, years in the making and repeatedly hyped by Musk, drove Tesla's stock.
The stock jumped as much as 11% in Monday trading before closing up 8% at $348.68, trimming its year-to-date losses to just under 7%.
That single-day rally translated into a $19 billion gain for Musk, who now commands a $385 billion fortune. This keeps him at the top of the world's richest list despite a $47.5 billion loss since the start of 2025.
As of Tuesday morning, Musk is worth $139 billion more than the world's second richest person, Meta's Mark Zuckerberg, and $155 billion more than Amazon founder Jeff Bezos.
In an X post on Sunday, Musk credited Tesla's internal AI and chip design teams for the launch, calling it the "culmination of a decade of hard work."
Still, analysts remained cautious. In a Monday note, UBS analysts raised their target price on the stock by $25 to $215 while maintaining a "Sell" rating, warning that much of the robotaxi optimism is already priced into the stock.
Other analysts cautioned that while Tesla's robotaxi vision is compelling, its success hinges on overcoming major hurdles in safety, operational infrastructure, sensor limitations, and real-world deployment — all of which remain unproven.

PhonePe reportedly planning $1.5bn India IPO

Walmart-backed Indian fintech firm PhonePe is gearing up for an initial public offering (IPO) to raise up to $1.5bn, Bloomberg reported citing people familiar with the matter. The IPO is expected to value the company at approximately $15bn, with plans to file a draft red herring prospectus as early as August, Bloomberg added. Founded in 2015, PhonePe is India's 'largest' digital payments provider, boasting over 610 million registered users and processing 340 million rupees of transactions daily, per Bloomberg. According to Reuters, the company serves more than 600 million registered users across 40 million merchants, handling over 310 million online transactions daily via India's unified payments interface (UPI). In 2023, PhonePe raised $100m from Ribbit Capital, Tiger Global Management, and TVS Capital Funds, valuing the company at $12bn at the time. The firm has engaged Kotak Mahindra Capital Co., JPMorgan Chase & Co., Citigroup Inc., and Morgan Stanley to manage the offering, Bloomberg reported. Discussions remain ongoing, and details may change, according to Bloomberg's sources. A PhonePe spokesperson did not respond to Bloomberg's request for comment. In May this year, PhonePe launched an upgraded version of its SmartSpeaker, a device designed to facilitate payment voice notifications for merchants. The latest iteration of the SmartSpeaker is manufactured in India and retains the voice notification feature of the original model, which was introduced in 2022. The device supports 21 language options and includes a celebrity voice feature. In April, the company introduced the UPI Circle feature on its app, enabling users to make payments to family members, friends, or other trusted individuals within a designated group. Some Tesla Robotaxis Are Reportedly Behaving Badly, and Safety Officials Want to Know What's Up

Table of Contents Some Tesla Robotaxis Are Reportedly Behaving Badly, and Safety Officials Want to Know What's Up Since they formally launched in Austin on June 22, Tesla's self-driving robotaxis are drawing lots of attention from locals. They're also drawing interest from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) after online videos were posted purporting to show the company's autonomous vehicles driving in the wrong lane and speeding around town, according to reports. After weeks of testing in Austin with a person in the vehicle, the robotaxi service went live and, according to first-person accounts and videos, has had some glitches. The Tesla Model Y vehicles have at times sped above speed limits and stopped in the middle of intersections, according to some who have ridden in them. Others have reported smoother experiences using the service, which charges passengers a flat $4.20 fee. Other self-driving taxi services in Austin include Waymo and Zoox. A representative for Tesla did not immediately respond to a request for information.

Forrester's Brand Experience Index Reveals A Stark Perception Gap Between Customers And NonCustomers Across Industries And Regions

NASHVILLE, Tenn. & CAMBRIDGE, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--According to Forrester's (Nasdaq: FORR) Brand Experience Index (BX Index™), both customers and noncustomers are more likely to purchase from, recommend, prefer, and pay a premium for brands with strong brand experience (BX) scores. Across all industries and countries, the average customer BX Index score consistently surpasses the noncustomer score, with differences ranging from 5 to 30 points. For example, in the US, Tesla earns a relatively high customer score, yet its noncustomer score ranks the lowest across all brands and categories, underscoring the significance of improving both brand and customer experience (CX). Introduced earlier this year to enable brands to assess how likely consumers are to engage with them, Forrester's BX Index evaluates three key factors: Salience: How top of mind is the brand, and does the customer view it favorably? Fit: How well does the brand meet the needs of the customer and fit who they are? Trust: Does the customer feel confident that the relationship will spark a specific positive outcome? Key findings from the global BX Index rankings include: Twenty-two brands comprise the 'elite' global tier. In 2025, a total of 22 brands earned the 'elite' spot, the top 5% of all brands that scored the highest. These include in the US, auto and home insurer NRMA Insurance in Australia, and investment firm TD Wealth in Canada. Americans love their brands more than the Canadians. Despite being close neighbors, the two countries have markedly different brand perceptions. While only a handful of brands in the US secure a 'good' BX Index customer score, there are no brands in Canada that achieve this. European noncustomers are hard to please. For the 94 brands evaluated in Europe across eight countries, including France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Poland, Spain, Sweden, and the United Kingdom, the highest average customer BX Index score is for auto and home insurers in Germany while the lowest is for home and auto insurers in Italy. The highest industry noncustomer BX Index score is for UK investment firms and the lowest is for banks in France. India and Singapore have the narrowest customer and noncustomer differential. The Asia Pacific analysis spans Australia, India, and Singapore. In that region, Singapore has two of the lowest customer-to-noncustomer differentials. In contrast, Australia's differential is roughly double that of its two peers, India and Singapore. 'The new BX Index has been designed to offer brands a data-driven approach to win and serve customers,' said Dipanjan Chatterjee, Forrester VP and principal analyst. 'To fully understand a brand's perception, we calculated separate scores for both customers and noncustomers, which were then combined into a composite score to help companies recognize the duality between BX and CX. When companies align their brand promise with the experiences they deliver across both customer and noncustomer segments, there is a compound, multiplier effect.' In its inaugural year, Forrester evaluated 452 brands across 12 industries and 13 countries to quantify the strength of brands' perception. Additionally, at its CX Summit North America, Forrester will unveil a new unified metric, the Total Experience Score, which combines the BX Index and Customer Experience Index (CX Index™) to assess a brand's ability to deliver on a promise it makes. Forrester's BX Index rankings and results reports are accessible within the Forrester Decisions portfolio of research services.
