Costco cards good for 'hot dogs & rotisserie chickens,' not airports, TSA says
Costco cards good for 'hot dogs & rotisserie chickens,' not airports, TSA says The deadline for travelers to obtain a Real ID for domestic flights and accessing federal facilities was May 7. Show Caption Hide Caption Real ID explained: what it is, why it matters, and how to get yours Real ID requirements: everything you need to know about getting compliant for travel and ID. Costco memberships come with a variety of perks, including access to discounted products and services; however, the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) recently debunked the rumor that customers' warehouse club cards substitute for a Real ID. TSA proclaimed in an X post on Wednesday, June 4: "We love hotdogs & rotisserie chickens as much as the next person but please stop telling people their Costco card counts as a REAL ID because it absolutely does not." TSA Pacific spokesperson Lorie Dankers told SFGate that the rumor of Costco cards being accepted as official identification pops up every year or so. When people try to use their warehouse club cards at airports, for instance, it could lead to delays and travel headaches, she added. Travel: You don't need a passport at these 7 US destinations that feel international As of May 7, travelers need a Real ID or other acceptable identification for domestic flights and accessing federal facilities. Those who haven't gotten one yet may be scrambling to figure out what they need to do before booking their next trip. One thing is for certain: They should probably leave their Costco membership cards at home. Here are the acceptable forms of identification, according to the TSA, as well as some background on how the most recent version of the Costco card rumor originated. Acceptable identification at the TSA checkpoint According to the TSA, valid forms of ID at airports include: Real ID-compliant driver's licenses or other state photo identity cards issued by the Department of Motor Vehicles (or equivalent) A temporary driver's license is not an acceptable form of identification. State-issued Enhanced Driver's License (EDL) or Enhanced ID (EID) U.S. passport U.S. passport card DHS trusted traveler cards (Global Entry, NEXUS, SENTRI, FAST) U.S. Department of Defense ID, including IDs issued to dependents Permanent resident card Border crossing card An acceptable photo ID issued by a federally recognized Tribal Nation/Indian Tribe, including Enhanced Tribal Cards (ETCs) HSPD-12 PIV card Foreign government-issued passport Canadian provincial driver's license or Indian and Northern Affairs Canada card Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services Employment Authorization Card (I-766) U.S. Merchant Mariner Credential Veteran Health Identification Card (VHIC) How did the Costco card rumor come back up? Food blog Chowhound claimed in the initial version of an article titled "How Your Costco Card Could Save You At The Airport," that people's Costco cards could pass through TSA because it is considered a photo ID. The article cited Reddit, where users claimed their warehouse club cards helped them through airport security when they forgot or lost their regular ID. On June 4, the day TSA debunked the rumor on social media, Chowhound issued an update to the article, saying, "A previous version of this article stated TSA is likely to accept a Costco membership card in lieu of a valid form of ID. TSA does not explicitly state you can use a Costco card as a form of identification, explaining, 'The TSA officer may ask you to complete an identity verification process which includes collecting information such as your name and current address to confirm your identity. If your identity is confirmed, you will be allowed to enter the screening checkpoint, where you may be subject to additional screening.'" The update concludes with: "Now with the Real ID requirements, (a Costco card) is even less likely to get you through TSA quickly or successfully." If someone tried using a Costco card at an airport, they would likely be pulled from the TSA checkpoint line for further questioning about other personal information, such as their two previous home addresses, Dankers told SFGate. Netflix (NasdaqGS:NFLX) Enters Creative Partnership With India's Ekta Kapoor For New Series
Netflix recently announced a long-term creative collaboration with Telefilms Ltd., led by renowned Indian creator Ekta Kapoor, aimed at developing a variety of projects for streaming audiences. Over the last quarter, Netflix's stock price increased by 39%, significantly outperforming the broader market, which rose by 2%. The company's remarkable quarterly earnings with improved sales and profits likely contributed to this rise. Additionally, its ongoing share buyback program further bolstered investor confidence. While these developments supported its upward trajectory, Netflix's stock rise was in stark contrast to the relatively modest market increase, highlighting its exceptional performance. Diversify your portfolio with solid dividend payers offering reliable income streams to weather potential market turbulence. Netflix's recent collaboration with Telefilms Ltd. could enhance its content portfolio, particularly by tapping into the growing Indian market. This agreement is likely to support Netflix's goal of expanding its global content strategy and potentially boost revenue and profit margins. Such initiatives might align with analysts' expectations of a 12% annual revenue growth over the next few years. Over the past three years, Netflix's total shareholder return was very large, underscoring its robust long-term performance. This period has seen significant outperformance relative to shorter-term gains when compared to the broader market's annual increase of 12.6% over the last year. In the same one-year period, Netflix's stock rose more than twice as much as the broader market, highlighting its impressive performance against industry benchmarks. The forecasted increase in ad revenue and gaming expansion could significantly drive future earnings, potentially increasing Netflix's earnings forecast from US$9.27 billion to as high as US$16.1 billion by 2028. However, these ambitious goals come amidst economic risks and competition, as highlighted in the narrative. Recent price movements see Netflix's stock trading at US$1137.69, with a modest 3.7% discount to the consensus price target of US$1096.58. This suggests that analysts, on average, consider Netflix fairly valued, factoring in the company's growth prospects and risks. Indian dealers offer steeper discounts as price rally dulls demand
By Rajendra Jadhav and Brijesh Patel (Reuters) - Gold discounts in India widened this week to their highest levels in more than a month, as a rally in domestic prices to near-record highs weighed on demand, while elevated rates also dampened buying across other major Asian hubs. Domestic gold prices were trading around 98,300 rupees per 10 grams on Friday, after rebounding from a low of 90,890 rupees last month and nearing the all-time high of 99,358 rupees. The spike in prices forced Indian dealers to offer discounts of up to $56 an ounce below official domestic prices, which include a 6% import duty and 3% sales tax, up from $31 last week. "Prices have gone up, and that's really hit demand. Hardly anyone was buying this week," said Harshad Ajmera of wholesaler JJ Gold House in Kolkata. Gold demand in India typically remains subdued during the monsoon season, which began earlier than usual this year. Jewellers are not making purchases because the lean demand season has started, and they don't want to build high-cost inventory, said a Mumbai-based bullion dealer with a private bank. Meanwhile, dealers in top gold consumer China charged premiums of $10-$14 an ounce over the global benchmark spot price. Last week, bullion changed hands at par to a $15 premium. "Elevated gold prices appear to have negatively impacted Chinese demand, judging by weaker trading volume," said Hugo Pascal, a precious metals trader at InProved. In Hong Kong, gold was sold at a premium of $0.30 to $1.30, while in Singapore gold traded between at-par prices and a $2.50 premium. "We've seen some of our clients coming to take profit and also on the wholesale side, we've seen some selling because prices are high," said Brian Lan, managing director at Singapore-based GoldSilver Central. In Japan, bullion traded anywhere between a discount of $0.5 and a $0.5 premium over spot prices.
