
World's first robotic-assisted cementless medial pivot knee replacement starts in Delhi hospital
According to doctors, the patient, a resident of Jharkhand's Dhanbad, had been suffering from debilitating knee pain for over eight years and was diagnosed with advanced osteoarthritis in both knees, along with complex deformities such as varus (bow-legged) and flexion (bent-knee).
Given his condition and the need for a long-lasting, high-performance outcome, a team of experts led by Dr. Sujoy Bhattacharjee, Chairman of the Max Institute of Robotic Joint Replacement, performed the world's first advanced surgery to restore mobility with a more natural joint feel and faster recovery potential.
Unlike traditional cemented implants, this cementless procedure allows the bone to naturally grow around the implant, improving durability and long-term integration. He underscored the pressing demand for skilled technicians in tooling and related sectors, while also highlighting the supply chain challenges that impede India's rocket production capabilities. ANI S Somanath Former Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) chairman S Somanath on Tuesday said there is an urgent need to develop tooling hubs in India to truly scale advanced manufacturing. He emphasised that India must create focused, concerted manufacturing ecosystems similar to those in China. Speaking at the Accel Advanced Manufacturing Summit in Bengaluru, Somanath said India lacks an ecosystem for aerospace manufacturing. 'Distributed hubs across the country are not a good idea for sectors like aerospace. We need concentrated hubs where all players are aggregated, coupled with institutions that add value to research and innovation,' he said. He highlighted that specialised skills such as tooling are often not addressed in the domain. 'We need people with great knowledge in tooling processes, metallurgy, materials manufacturing, machine tools, process engineering, and automation,' he said, while discussing India's next decade building frontier tech also pointed out that while Indian rockets are witnessing strong global demand, the lack of sufficient supply remains a bottleneck that needs immediate attention. 'Manufacturing becomes the crux of the problem. The ability to manufacture and launch in a short period is essential,' he told startups looking to build in the space sector, highlighting that mass manufacturing in satellites and small launch vehicles will be needed to capture the global startups and deeptech investors also echoed his thoughts and said that for India, space as a defence technology has come much later, and there are areas where it still needs to play catch-up. Agnikul Cosmos CEO Srinath Ravichandran said the way to address the gap is not to mimic the SpaceX model but to build from scratch. 'Everyone wants to go build a SpaceX, but that may not be the easiest way to build rockets,' he said, adding that instead of replicating the model, solutions can be built from the Indian context for the Rajaram, managing partner at deeptech venture capital firm Speciale Invest, which has backed several spacetech startups, believes, 'There are certain places we (India) can leapfrog, like in-orbit servicing or any action that you can do in orbit. That's very much a level playing field. Maybe the West is just two or three years ahead of us, and India can compete there.'

Sunjay Kapur's cause of death confirmed amid mother's claims of ‘mysterious death': Report
Businessman Sunjay Kapur — who passed away last month during a polo match in London, sparking a tussle over the ₹30,000 crore Sona Group — died of 'natural causes', according to British medical authorities. A letter confirming the cause was sent to his wife, Priya Sachdev Kapur, on Sunday. Sunjay remarried Priya Sachdev, with whom he has a son. He was also co-parenting Priya's daughter Safira, Kapur, who was the chairman of Sona BLW Precision Forgings Ltd (Sona Comstar), suffered a fatal heart attack on 12 June, resulting in several senior-level shifts within the company. According to an NDTV report, which cited the Surrey Coroner's Office, the inquiry "has revealed he (i.e., Sunjay Kapur) died of natural causes" and identified left ventricular hypertrophy and ischaemic heart disease as the causes of death. Causes of death explained Left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH) occurs when the muscular wall of the heart's left ventricle becomes abnormally thick, making it more difficult for the heart to pump blood efficiently. This often arises when the heart has to work harder than usual, typically due to elevated blood pressure. The latter, known as ischaemic heart disease or coronary artery disease, results from the heart muscle not receiving sufficient oxygen and blood, usually due to arteries becoming narrower. This narrowing is most commonly caused by atherosclerosis — a build-up of fatty deposits, cholesterol, and other substances on the arterial walls. Rani Kapur's claims of son's 'mysterious death' In a significant escalation of the ongoing dispute within the powerful Sona Comstar family, Sunjay Kapur's death has drawn international attention. His mother, Rani Kapur — former chairperson of the company — has formally approached UK authorities, requesting a full investigation into what she describes as the 'mysterious circumstances' surrounding his death in London. Sources cited by ANI confirmed that an official criminal complaint has been filed in the UK challenging the circumstances of Sunjay Kapur's sudden passing. Rani Kapur lodged the complaint, which urges British law enforcement to intervene promptly. Breaking her silence in an emotional video interview with ANI — her first public appearance since Sunjay's death — Rani Kapur expressed heartbreak and lingering doubts. 'I still don't know what happened to my son,' she said, her voice shaking. 'I'm old now. I need closure before I go.' She added, 'I remember the early days of Sona — built with care, sacrifice, and love,' highlighting her deep connection to the firm she co-founded with her late husband. Her remarks also served as a subtle rebuttal to the company's assertions that she has not played any role in its affairs since 2019. Amid the ongoing succession battle, the company recently appointed Sunjay's wife, Priya Sachdev Kapur, as a non-executive director, effective July 23, 2025. Just a day later, in a letter addressed to the firm, Rani Kapur alleged that some individuals had taken advantage of the family's grieving period to 'wrest control and usurp the family legacy'. IITs to train Delhi school teachers through Indian Knowledge Systems
School teachers in Delhi will soon have the opportunity to deepen their understanding of India's rich heritage through a new training programme at two Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), education minister Ashish Sood said on Monday. The initiative, which is likely to be launched in September, aims to connect educators with the Indian Knowledge Systems (IKS), including philosophy, arts, science, Sanskrit, and ancient texts like the Vedas and Upanishads. Delhi minister Ashish Sood (ANI) Minister Sood said that under the scheme, selected teachers from government schools will undergo a five-to-seven-day training programme at IIT Mandi and IIT Gandhinagar. 'The sessions will cover Ayurveda, Yoga, and other aspects of Indian culture, equipping educators with the tools to help students engage with these traditions,' minister Sood said In the first phase, at least 50 teachers will participate, divided into 10 groups. Minister Sood said the move seeks to bridge the gap between modern education and India's intellectual heritage. 'By training teachers in these traditions, we hope that a deeper connection between students and their cultural roots is formed,' he said.
