Fahmi urges Malaysian students in Japan to embrace disciplined work culture
He also urged them to explore work opportunities in Japan to gain valuable experience that could benefit Malaysia in the long run.
'Insya-Allah, Malaysia is in a good position now, economically and in its role as ASEAN Chair.
'I hope you'll take full advantage of your time here to seek out work experience, and then return to help build the nation,' he said during a dinner and engagement session with members of the Malaysian diaspora and student community here tonight.
Fahmi is in Tokyo to attend the Asia-Pacific Telecommunity Ministerial Meeting (APT-MM) 2025, held from May 30 to 31. The meeting aims to boost regional cooperation in telecommunications and information technology.
Also present at the gathering were Deputy Head of Mission at the Malaysian Embassy in Tokyo Anwar Udzir and embassy staff.
The session was attended by 38 participants, including 11 members of the Malaysian diaspora and 27 students from various universities in and around Tokyo.

Fahmi: Rafizi won't be cowed into silence by attack on son
KUALA LUMPUR: Former economy minister Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli is unlikely to be "cowed into silence" by the attack on his 12-year-old son at a mall in Putrajaya yesterday. Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil said, if the syringe attack was meant to warn the vocal politician against making certain statements, then it was unlikely to succeed. He said Rafizi has faced court action and political pressure before, but was known to respond to intimidation with even greater resolve. "I don't think someone like Rafizi will be cowed into silence by something like this. He has been brought to court before and is very familiar with pressure... the more he is pressured, the more he fights back," he said after officiating the Mercu Tanda Kampung Kerinchi. Fahmi was asked by reporters to comment on the attack. He stressed that it was too early to conclude whether the incident was politically motivated as investigations are still ongoing. "The police are still investigating, so we leave it to them to determine what really happened. It is too early for me to comment on that," he said. Fahmi condemned the act in the strongest terms and called for swift action against those responsible. "This is something we absolutely cannot accept. I hope those involved will be caught and brought to justice quickly," he said. Two men were reported to have approached the boy and stabbed him with a syringe before fleeing. Selangor police chief Datuk Shazeli Kahar had said investigators had reviewed CCTV footage from the scene and were tracking down two male suspects. The boy is in stable condition and receiving hospital treatment. Rafizi said this was the first time his family had been targeted and believes the act was a warning aimed at silencing him on certain issues. However, he vowed not to bow to threats and to continue his work as usual.

‘Deeply worrying culture': Anwar vows swift action over rise in extreme behaviours
KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 14 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has expressed deep concern over the rise of extreme behaviours in the country, citing recent violent incidents such as the assault on the son of Pandan MP Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli and cases of bullying that have resulted in deaths. 'This culture is deeply worrying. I give my assurance, as stated by the Home Minister and the police, that they will act swiftly, decisively and transparently to take action and put an end to this harmful culture,' he said in the Dewan Rakyat today. TOKYO, Aug 14 — Bitcoin hit a record high on Thursday during early Asian trading, surpassing US$124,000 (RM520,000), driven by favourable US legislation and a rise in US equities. The cryptocurrency rose above its previous July record, briefly exceeding US$124,500 before retreating. US stocks ended higher Wednesday, with the S&P 500 index and the tech-heavy Nasdaq reaching new heights this week, contributing to the cryptocurrency's rise. Bitcoin's value has recently soared, fuelled by US regulatory changes under US President Donald Trump, a strong backer of the crypto sector. Its price has also been boosted by large holders of cryptocurrency, referred to as 'whales'. 'The crypto market is enjoying a period of highly favorable fundamentals,' said Samer Hasn, senior market analyst at 'President Donald Trump has moved to end restrictions that previously prevented banks from doing business with companies flagged for reputational risk concerns, a category in which crypto firms were often unfairly placed,' he added. Trump may also be inclined to 'accelerate the integration of cryptocurrencies into the national financial system and lift additional restrictions, given his and his family's growing involvement in the sector', Hasn said.
