Ghaziabad interfaith couple: As family again alleges woman kidnapped, she says ‘left house as per my wish'

Nearly two months after the father of a 25-year-old woman in Ghaziabad accused her in-laws of kidnapping her, only for the daughter to claim that she has entered into an interfaith marriage by choice, her family filed a complaint at the Indirapuram police station on Wednesday, alleging that she has been kidnapped again. Minutes later, a purported video surfaced in which the woman, Sonika Chauhan, claimed that she had left her home on Wednesday to be with her husband, Akbar Khan (29). She also named some people who allegedly tortured her and wanted her to frame Akbar. Sonika, meanwhile, on Wednesday wrote to the Ghaziabad district magistrate seeking police protection, police said. 'I, Sonika, on July 30, around 2 pm, left my house as per my wish… Since last two months, my parents and some other people, including Meena Bhandari, Harish Karakoti, Kapil Tyagi, my maternal uncle Vikram Rawat and my paternal uncle Jagdish Singh Chauhan, had been torturing me physically and mentally… they wanted me to give a statement against Akbar in court and frame him under POCSO (Act) and put him behind bars. But I protested… I will only tell the truth,' she is heard saying in the video. Speaking to The Indian Express, DCP (Trans-Hindon) Patil Nimish Dasharath said the family has filed a complaint and soon an FIR will be registered in the case. The investigating officer of the case, added that the family, in the complaint, has alleged that Akbar entered their house, abducted their daughter and stole Rs 50,000 in cash and jewellery. The matter had first come to light on May 25, when Sonika's father, Laxman Singh Chauhan, filed a complaint with the Indirapuram police station, accusing Akbar of kidnapping Sonika. The Ghazibad Police had then raided Akbar's home in the Nyay Khand area of Indirapuram and 'handed over' Sonika to her parents. Following this, the police had arrested Akbar, his two sisters, sister-in-law, and a neighbour. A group of around 60 men had also attacked Akbar's shop and vandalised it. A purported video had surfaced before Akbar's arrest, in which Sonika could be heard saying that she wanted to stay with him and that they had secretly gotten married at a Delhi SDM office under the Special Marriage Act, 1954 in August 2022. They, however, did not immediately start staying together. In Wednesday's video, Sonika is heard saying that she had recorded her statement before the magistrate. 'Since my statements were not in accordance with what my family wanted me to say… they started threatening me,' she said. 'I had said before the magistrate that I wanted to stay with my family… thinking that both the families would live peacefully. But now they are forcing me to give another statement against Akbar…,' she said, adding that she does not want to stay with her family anymore. Neetika Jha is a Correspondent with The Indian Express. Staffer held for Rs 378 crore crypto theft from Bengaluru firm

BENGALURU: In a major online heist, cyber fraudsters hacked the digital wallet of Bengaluru-based Neblio Technologies Private Limited, a cryptocurrency exchange firm, and siphoned off Rs 378 crore. The Whitefield CEN police, who have registered a case, said that a company employee was arrested on suspicion of involvement in the fraud. According to the FIR filed on July 22 by Hardeep Singh, vice president of Public Policy and Government Affairs at the company, the theft occurred on July 19 around 2.30 am. The hacker initially transferred 1 USDT, a cryptocurrency, to another account. Nearly five hours later, USDT 44 million (approximately Rs 378 crore) was moved to six different accounts. The company found that the laptop of its employee Rahul Agarwal was hacked, and Rs 15 lakh was remitted to his account. When questioned, Agarwal claimed he was engaged in a part-time job, the FIR stated, adding the company strictly mandated that he was not allowed to use a laptop for other purposes. A senior police officer said that Agarwal, a resident of Sarjapur Main Road, was arrested on Sunday. Police are verifying whether Agarwal's laptop was hacked or if he himself masterminded the theft, or if there is a nexus between the arrested accused and others. He has been taken into police custody. The Whitefield CEN police have registered a case under sections 66 (computer related offences), 43 (penalty and compensation for damage to computer, computer system etc), 66(c) (indentity theft) and 66(d) (cheating by personation by using computer resource) of Information Technology Act and 303 (theft), 316 (4) (criminal breach of trust), 318 (4) (cheating), 319 (2) (cheating by personation) of BNS.

TNSTC collects Rs 1 extra on Theni routes, RTI reveals; official promises corrective action

THENI: The Theni division of Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation has been collecting Rs 1 extra as ticket fare in services operating in Bodinayakanur-Theni and Andipatti - Theni routes. At least 30 trips are operated in both the routes daily. According to the reply provided by TNSTC to a RTI query filed by activist A Ramakrishnan, the original fare is Rs 14 from Theni to Bodinayakanur (16.5 km) and from Theni to Andipatti (16.5 km). But Rs 15 is being collected on both routes. The collection is credited to TNSTC account. Speaking to TNIE, activist Ramakrishnan said that an average of 150 buses are plying between Bodinayakanur and Theni. 'The fleecing is the tip of the ice-berg. The RTI reply has revealed that TNSTC is collecting a minimum of Rs 3,000 excess through one service. Normal buses are not operated between Bodinayakanur and Theni. Authorities must prominently place a board mentioning ticket fare in every bus,' he said. Ramakrishnan added that he had lodged complaints to Governor RN Ravi, Chief Minister MK Stalin regarding this, but he did not get a reply. A senior officer of TNSTC, who did not wish to be identified, admitted that TNSTC has been collecting Rs 1 extra between Bodinayakanur-Theni and Theni-Andipatti. He assured to take action to collect the prescribed fare. When contacted, the managing director of TNSTC, (Madurai) V Saravanan told TNIE that he would look into this issue, and take appropriate action.
