'We've got a really deep group this year. So many [personal records], a couple of school records, just above and beyond expectation,' said C-C coach Matt Goldberg. 'We have a large team, so it's really exciting when everybody is a contributor on the team. It's a lot of fun when in almost every heat of the day, we get to cheer for somebody.'

'She's such a strong swimmer, has been since a freshman,' Goldberg said. 'She broke the school record in the 500 [freestyle] last year . . . I kind of thought she was going to break it again. Hopefully she'll do it next week.'

Turrettini came oh-so-close to a third win as the starter for the Patriots' 200 free relay team, setting a PR in her 50-yard leg (25.18) just minutes after completing her 500-yard free.
'Swimming's an individual sport, but for C-C, it's a team sport, which is really cool,' Turrettini said. 'When I came in my freshman year, no one expected anything from us, and now it's our third time doing this. It's exciting watching us grow.'
There was a bit of revenge motivating C-C as well, as they contended with conference rivals.
'We knew going into this that Lincoln-Sudbury and Weston were going to be tough,' Goldberg added. 'We've had some ups and downs, lost our dual meet to Weston this year, but our girls swam and dove unbelievably today.'

Picking up wins for the Patriots were senior Maisey O'Donnell and sophomore Elisabeth Reiling. The Williams-bound O'Donnell scored 484.2 points in the 1-meter dive, and Reiling captured the 100 butterfly crown (58.29).

Joining Turrettini as a multi-winner was Lincoln-Sudbury's Joslin Halsey. The Bucknell-bound senior won both the 50 free (24.21) and 100 free (52.17) and swam the final leg (52.01) in the Warriors' 400 free relay victory (3:41.53).
Though one trophy is clinched, Concord-Carlisle has their sights set higher: repeating as D1 state champions.
'As long as we view ourselves as one team, hopefully we'll do what we did last year,' said Turrettini.

It appears fans are in for another long wait as the Dallas Cowboys drag out talks with Micah Parsons on a contract extension despite all the information telling them the deal should be done. originally appeared on Athlon Sports. FRISCO — Fans waited every passing day of last summer for the Dallas Cowboys to lock in contract extensions for Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb. Both obvious moves on the team's part, but Dallas never veered of course and paid both players at the eleventh hour. Advertisement There was a laser focus on both players' situations at the time. Anyone taking a step back, however, could have predicted the same thing happening a year later when defensive star Micah Parsons was due his own contract extension. Flash forward and the exact same situation has unfolded at The Star. Through the first week of June, the Cowboys have no progress with Parsons and have yet to play nice with his agent to get the ball rolling on this front. While the saga continues, it becomes more obvious by the day that Parsons deserves his new deal and probably deserved it months ago. Tom Blair at continues to drive the campaign, listing Parsons as one of the veterans most deserving of a raise heading into next season. Advertisement "Just three guys since 1960 have collected 50-plus sacks, nine-plus passes defensed and nine-plus forced fumbles in their first four pro seasons, and Parsons is one of them. The other two: Hall of Famer DeMarcus Ware and imminent Hall of Famer J.J. Watt." That is just one stat that illustrates the trajectory that Parsons is currently on. One would think that such mention with another Cowboy great like Ware and the Canton-bound Watt would make this more of a glaring point. Nonetheless, the Cowboys are choosing to play this their way. Even if another defensive star or nonquarterback resets the market, they are content waiting until they are ready. DeMarcus Ware, Micah Parsons And The CowboysBy Tony Fisher Will that wait last as long as Prescott's hours before Week 1 kickoff raise from September? Hopefully not. But the bottom line remains the same: Parsons is deserving of a massive contract extension and remains within his right to fight for a pay day. Seth Rollins on why Caleb Williams will have better Year 2 than Jayden Daniels

Seth Rollins on why Caleb Williams will have better Year 2 than Jayden Daniels Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams and Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels will be compared for the duration of their NFL careers. The first and second overall picks, respectively, have all of the talent and potential to thrive and be the face of the league for the long term. But while Daniels had an easy-going rookie season -- en route to Offensive Rookie of the Year honors -- Williams dealt with adversity and still faces plenty of criticism after just one year. During a recent appearance on the "Up & Adams" show, WWE superstar (and noted Bears fan) Seth Rollins explained why he believes Williams will have a better 2025 season than Daniels. "I think Caleb Williams is going to have a better year," Rollins said. "I think last year was an aberration. I think you're going to see a little bit of a sophomore slump. I think people are going to be able to gameplan for (Jayden) better. ... I just think the second year is going to be more difficult. You look at C.J. had a great year, but compared to the rookie year, not quite as good. I think you're going to look at it and see a situation like that whereas expectations are going to be a little bit lower for Caleb, and I think he's going to be able to exceed those. Plus, he's playing in a system with Ben Johnson that's going to be curated better to him than what he was doing with Shane Waldron." While it's easy to deem Rollins a "superfan" defending "his" quarterback, he brings up a good point. A sophomore slump could potentially be in play for Daniels, who had a lights-out rookie season. Also, we haven't even glimpsed Williams' ceiling after his chaotic rookie season that featured incompetent coaching. Now with Ben Johnson in place, we should get a taste of what Williams can really bring to the field. There's no reason Williams and Daniels can't both be great -- and we could very well be witnessing the beginning of that -- but people love to compare and declare who's better. That's a question that wouldn't even be answered for several years. But with both Williams and Daniels in the NFC, they'll be seeing a lot of each other throughout their careers -- especially if their respective teams become perennial playoff teams. Williams and Daniels will square off again for the second time in as many seasons when the Commanders host the Bears on Monday Night Football in Week 6. While Williams nearly won the first match -- before Tyrique Stevenson's blunder on a Hail Mary -- he'll have a chance to redeem himself and even the series with Daniels on Oct. 13.

Charlie Batch Happy Steelers' Will Howard Learning From Bench

Charlie Batch Happy Steelers' Will Howard Learning From Bench originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Former Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Charlie Batch knows a thing or two about backing up a Canton-bound quarterback. He spent nine years backing up Steelers icon Ben Roethlisberger and ultimately watched him win a Super Bowl. Advertisement As such, he has a perspective that sixth-round quarterback Will Howard could use after Thursday's news. Pittsburgh finally ended its quarterback drama by signing veteran Aaron Rodgers on a one-year deal that is as much about redemption as it is saying goodbye. With a playoff-ready roster and an esteemed head coach, the organization has the talent to give Rodgers one more shot at playoff contention. On 'Up & Adams,' the former Steelers quarterback was happy to see Howard sitting, primarily because it eliminates the pressure of expectations. Batch spoke to Kay Adams before Rodgers put pen to paper. "They want to make sure he is learning from the pocket first and then from there allow everything else to kind of materialize," Batch said. "There's not a lot of pressure on Will at this particular point, and that's the one thing that he has an advantage of. Because all he has to do is put his head in the playbook, go out there and get the job done, where everybody else is being talked about." Advertisement With Mason Rudolph atop the depth chart before the Rodgers signing, there was a real chance that Howard would see playing time in 2025. Pittsburgh has been able to churn out competent teams with bottom-barrel quarterbacking before, but thrusting Howard into a starting role with playoff expectations would be harsh. Now, Howard can comfortably embrace his role as the third quarterback while soaking up all he can from one of the game's smartest quarterbacks. Batch suggested that in offensive coordinator Arthur Smith's offense, Howard is a promising fit, given his proclivity for helping in the run game. "We know the mindset of Arthur Smith," Batch said. "He wants to run the football, and sometimes the quarterback has to pull the ball down on some designed runs that you actually have to use your legs and get the job done. So those are things that are gonna play itself out, but that's kind of down the line." Advertisement The Steelers seem to be gearing up for a franchise quarterback in 2026. But with a year of experience and a season's worth of seasoning from Rodgers, Howard could find himself with the upper hand in a quarterback competition next season.
