Tax, RON95 subsidy, judiciary issues raised in PM's meeting with BN MPs
Anwar said these were among the matters he addressed during the session with the BN MPs.
"This is how it works. Sometimes on Mondays, I meet with Pakatan Harapan (PH) MPs, which is routine.
"So, (Deputy Prime Minister) Datuk Seri (Ahmad) Zahid (Hamidi) suggested that I also meet with BN MPs.
"I agreed, so we had the meeting yesterday. The BN MPs understood and gave their full cooperation on these matters, and I will continue to engage with them moving forward," he told reporters after a meeting with the state leadership councils of PKR in Pahang, Terengganu and Kelantan here today.
It was reported yesterday that Anwar met with BN MPs at his official residence in Seri Perdana, Putrajaya.
Anwar, who is also PKR president, said today's leadership council meeting also touched on current issues including the government's ongoing efforts to combat corruption.
"I outlined the steps we've taken against major corruption cases, which have prompted certain groups to unite in attacking us.
"That is the key point. For them, corruption no longer seems to be a serious issue. But for us, it remains critical because it concerns governance," he said.
Anwar also said he had explained the process for appointing the Chief Justice, reiterating that all parties must respect the procedures outlined in the Federal Constitution.

Anwar under greater fire after alleged JAC meeting minutes leaked
OPPOSITION leaders have urged Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim to address the alleged leak of Judicial Appointments Commission (JAC) meeting minutes, warning that failure to clarify claims of judicial interference could cost him his job. PAS information chief Ahmad Fadhli Shaari said the allegations are deeply concerning and demand an immediate public explanation. He added that if the claims are true and cannot be refuted with conclusive evidence, Anwar should resign as his position would no longer reflect the principles of integrity and constitutional supremacy. Ahmad Fadhli also cautioned senior judges against colluding to undermine the justice system. 'The prime minister is urged to immediately come forward and provide an open explanation to the people,' the PAS MP from Pasir Mas said in a Facebook post today. 'If the allegations (detailed in the alleged leak) are true and cannot be refuted with clear, conclusive facts, then the prime minister should resign immediately. 'His position would no longer align with the principles of integrity, trust, and constitutional supremacy that form the foundation of the nation's administrative system,' the MP added. An alleged excerpt from the Judicial Appointments Commission (JAC) meeting minutes in May has been leaked on social media, originating from Reddit and spreading to Facebook and X. The classified minutes contain allegations similar to those in a leaked police report filed in June on behalf of a senior judge accused of judicial interference. The report was lodged after a news portal contacted the judge on June 12 for comment regarding accusations of judicial interference during the JAC meeting in May. Public Accounts Committee chief Mas Ermieyati Samsudin expressed shock, urging the government to investigate. She told a local news portal that although it remains unclear whether the leaked document is genuine, the allegations it contains are extremely serious. 'The government must answer and an investigation must be launched,' she reportedly said. The scandal has sparked calls for a royal commission of inquiry, with former economy minister Rafizi Ramli warning it could rival the VK Lingam judge-fixing scandal. The Malaysian Bar plans to march on Monday to demand action, while the Attorney-General's Chambers has downplayed the allegations, dismissing them as mere speculation over procedural irregularities. —July 13, 2025 Main image: reuters

Calls mount for PKR to suspend 9 MPs over RCI push
KUALA LUMPUR: Eleven Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) division chiefs in Kedah have called for disciplinary action and the immediate suspension of nine PKR Members of Parliament who recently held a press conference urging the government to establish a Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) into judicial appointments. In a joint statement, the division chiefs said the actions of the nine MPs breached party discipline and violated the PKR Members' Code of Ethics under Articles 10.1 and 10.2 of the party constitution. These provisions outline the responsibility of members to safeguard the party's reputation, comply with its decisions, and avoid internal sabotage. "We fully support the grassroots demand for the immediate suspension of the nine MPs and urge the Party Disciplinary Committee to conduct a thorough investigation and take appropriate action without delay. "We also reaffirm our commitment to stand firmly with the party president and PKR leadership in advancing the reform agenda and strengthening national institutions," the statement read. The joint statement was signed by Sik division chief Habib Ahmad Muhaiyuddin, S. Poobalan (Jerai), Mohd Tahar Hussin (Padang Terap), Ismail Wasi Ahmad Shafawi (Langkawi), and Azizi Azizan (Kubang Pasu). Also signing were Shakir Sheik Lukman (Kuala Kedah), Chandar M. Subramaniam (Baling), Halim Khomiza (Pendang), Mohamad Rudzi Samsudin (Jerlun), Yeo Keng Chuan (Kulim Bandar Baharu), and Mohd Altab Pa Ibrahim (Pokok Sena). The group said the public actions of the nine MPs did not reflect the spirit of party solidarity and were seen as a direct challenge to the authority of the party president and leadership – an authority that must be respected by all members, especially elected representatives. "We believe internal mechanisms such as the Political Bureau and Central Leadership Council (MPP) exist precisely to discuss matters of policy and administration. "Any action outside these avenues not only breaches party discipline but also creates opportunities for political opponents who are eager to see PKR divided. "Such conduct, as clearly outlined in the Members' Code of Ethics, is a direct violation of Articles 10.1 and 10.2 of the party constitution. "PKR was founded on the principles of struggle, discipline, and unity. No individual is above the party. "Any act that weakens party unity or public confidence must be dealt with firmly and without delay," the statement said. The division chiefs also urged all PKR members, particularly in Kedah, to remain calm, avoid being swayed by misleading narratives, and continue supporting Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's leadership in championing reform for the rakyat.
