OPPO sees a bit of itself in this major Android 16 upgrade, and it's hard to disagree
Google is bringing a new multitasking feature to Android 16, and even OPPO is giving it some credit. The new system, which introduces a 90:10 split-screen layout, looks very similar to a multitasking idea OPPO has been using since 2023. That feature, known as "Boundless View" on OPPO phones and "Open Canvas" on the OnePlus Open, allows apps to sit partially off the screen. Users can switch between them by tapping the visible edge of the app, making multitasking feel smoother and less restricted than traditional split-screen modes. Android 16 's version works a bit differently, but the idea is similar. The update allows one app to stay mostly in view (taking up 90 percent of the screen), while the second app remains in a slim portion along the edge. This setup lets users switch between the two more easily, without fully closing either app. The new multitasking layout has been spotted in early Android 16 beta builds, including Samsung's One UI 8 beta. It's not currently available on Pixel phones, but that could change in future updates. The first Android 16 QPR1 beta went live on May 20, with more features likely to arrive as testing continues. After some online speculation about OPPO's role in this change, the company issued a statement to clarify. An OPPO executive had suggested on Weibo that the company may have helped bring this feature to Android, but OPPO later told Android Authority that it had no direct involvement. Instead, OPPO said Google's feature "draws inspiration" from its own Boundless View, calling it "a similar feature." And with OPPO offering praise instead of criticism, it seems the company is more interested in pushing multitasking forward than claiming ownership of the idea.

Amazon US Father's Day deals drop Galaxy Watch Ultra, Watch7 prices, Galaxy Buds also on offer
A couple of days ago, we posted about a Father's Day deal from Amazon US on the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra. But if dad already has a phone he likes, you can pick up something to accessorize it with – a new smartwatch, for example. The Samsung Galaxy Watch Ultra is built for durability and long battery life. It has advanced health tracking features like ECG. Samsung Galaxy Watch Ultra There is only one version – a 4G-connected 47mm watch. This allows it to work independently of a phone, whether to track exercise outside or because dad forgot his phone. This offer comes bundled with a 25W charger – a bit overkill for the watch (it supports 10W), but you can use it for phones too. Alternatively, the Samsung Galaxy Watch7 is available in 40mm and 44mm sizes. It's a bit more stylish than the Ultra – at least its vibe isn't so outdoorsy – and it only has Bluetooth by default, making it a good deal more affordable. There is an LTE version too, if you think that is helpful. The Watch7 is bundled with a free SmartTag2, which can be used to track keys, a backpack or anything else, really. You can also go back in time a bit and pick up the Samsung Galaxy Watch6 Classic, currently the last model with a rotating bezel. It's available in 43mm and 47mm sizes and also has a 4G option if you want it. Another piece of kit you can get is the Samsung Galaxy Buds3 Pro. These have great sound quality, better ANC than before and the stems do make for easier controls. Samsung Galaxy Buds3 Pro The buds can be connected to a watch too, not just a phone. Especially one with 4G – the watch+buds combo can handle calls, stream music, even do messages with voice transcription. There's AI on hand to answer questions too. Samsung Galaxy Buds3 Pro $65 off Read our review Alternatively, the Samsung Galaxy Buds FE are a pretty cheap add-on, if just a watch doesn't seem enough. These don't have stems, but they have wings that keep them stable in the ear. They do have ANC too, it's just not on the level of the Buds3 Pro. Samsung Galaxy Buds FE $35 off We may get a commission from qualifying sales.

Google Fi accounts being suspended in wake of extremely bizarre problem
An extremely bizarre problem is taking place over at Google, and it's leading to innocent users' plans being suspended with no way of solving the issue. Multiple Google Fi customers have now reported this behavior, and it's looking like no one's listening or trying to help, except for the AI agents who might have caused this problem in the first by Google Fi customers on social media as well as Google's own forums have reported that their payments for their plans are getting denied. Once this happens, the users usually have to deal with AI customer service agents over email who fail to understand what is going jumping though all the hoops, their applications to re-verify their identity get rejected. All of the users have received the same automated rejection email that states that they need to provide either a 'certificate of incorporation for PNC' or 'articles of incorporation for PNC' to problem is, these users don't have or haven't had a bank account with PNC for years. As such, they are unable to provide the requested documents. Furthermore, if they are able to get a hold of a human customer service representative, their issue keeps getting escalated but never ultimately, leads to their Google Fi plans being suspended due to a failure to pay their bills on time. Google Fi mainly uses the T-Mobile network. | Image credit — T-Mobile As some users have theorized, I feel like this problem has come about because of a failure of AI services on the backend. It looks like someone at Google was laid off or replaced with an AI system that is sending out erroneous reports and doesn't understand how to proceed. If this isn't due to an AI system's malfunction, then someone has messed up badly and still not realized it. This is, of course, absolutely unacceptable. Access to the internet or cellular services aren't things that can just be snatched away in today's world, and Google of all companies should know that. This, in my opinion, makes Google Fi's competitors' controversies in recent months seem trivial by comparison. Price hikes at T-Mobile or dissatisfaction with the T-Life app is preferable to the headache that Google Fi is giving these customers. Fortunately, as there have now been multiple reports on this issue, Google will hopefully take notice and address the problem immediately. The affected customers should also be awarded something to make up for the hours that they've wasted trying to get this fixed. Judging by the posts linked above, these customers are understandably very frustrated, and one person has already switched carriers. And with T-Mobile's new price lock guarantees and internet plans, I wouldn't fault the others for looking elsewhere after this fiasco.
