Chicago soybeans slip on favourable weather, weaker soyoil

BEIJING: Chicago soybean futures fell on Tuesday, pressured by favourable US crop weather and weaker soyoil prices, after a sharp two-day rally.
The most-active soybean contract dipped 0.23% to $10.67 per bushel, as of 0222 GMT, snapping gains fuelled by surging crude oil and stronger US biofuel blending mandates.
Soybeans had touched a one-month high and soyoil a 20-month high on Monday.
Analysts said Iran-Israel tensions could add volatility to grain markets through energy price shocks.
'At present eyes across all markets are on what is occurring in the Middle East,' said Andrew Whitelaw, agricultural consultant at Episode 3.
'The region is a huge contributor to the energy markets, and these markets have a huge impact on grain pricing levels.' Soyoil contract dropped 0.85% at 54.64 cents per pound, as traders took profits, removing some support for soybeans.
The oilseed also continues to face headwinds from weak demand, tariff uncertainty and global competition.
Corn slipped 0.06% to $4.35 a bushel, pressured by beneficial weekend rains across key growing regions, including parts of the Plains and the northwest and southeastern Midwest.
Soybeans rise on oil rally, still on track for weekly loss
However, strong export data helped curb losses.
US corn inspections in the latest week reached about 1.67 million metric tons, at the high end of trade expectations.
Weekly condition ratings for the country's corn crop also improved and were tied for the highest for this time of the season in several years, according to US government data.
Soybean ratings declined, rose 0.84% to $5.41 a bushel, though harvest pressure capped gains.
The US winter wheat harvest is expanding after a slow start. The USDA said the winter wheat crop was 10% harvested, up from 4% a week ago but behind the five-year average of 16%.
Analysts on average had estimated harvest progress at 11%. Commodity funds were net buyers of Chicago Board of Trade soyoil futures contracts on Monday and net sellers of corn, soymeal, wheat and soybean futures, traders said.

Indian shares slip as Trump's Tehran warning, oil surge rattle investors

India's benchmark indexes fell on Tuesday as investors stayed on edge after U.S. President Donald Trump urged Iranians to evacuate Tehran, stoking fears of a broader regional conflict amid ongoing Israel-Iran hostilities. The Nifty 50 was down 0.37% to 24,853.4 and the BSE Sensex fell 0.26% to 81,583.3. 'Trump's remarks have spooked markets as investors are flying blind on how Middle East and trade tensions will play out,' said Pramod Gubbi, co-founder of Marcellus Investment Managers. Global stocks slipped, safe-haven gold rose and oil prices climbed after U.S. President Donald Trump cut short his visit to the Group of Seven summit in Canada while reports said he ordered the National Security Council to be on alert in the situation room. Rising crude prices hurt commodity importers like India, where oil makes up a large portion of the import bill. India's trade ties with the region may be limited, but an Iranian threat to block the Strait of Hormuz could trigger a huge damage for domestic economy, said Bernstein analysts Venugopal Garre and Nikhil Arela. India's equity benchmarks snap two-day losing streak as IT and financials rise 'A prolonged war risks imported inflation, stripping the government of tools to support growth and dragging markets lower,' they said. Palm ends lower on rival Chicago soyoil, profit taking

JAKARTA: Malaysian palm oil futures fell on Tuesday, snapping three straight sessions of gains, dragged down by a decline in rival soyoil in the Chicago market as well as profit-taking actions. The benchmark palm oil contract for September delivery on the Bursa Malaysia Derivatives Exchange lost 28 ringgit, or 0.68%, to 4,066 ringgit ($958.28) a metric ton at the close. 'The futures today is on profit-taking mode after the recent rally, tracking the Dalian and CBOT soyoil sentiment,' a Kuala Lumpur-based trader said. Soyoil on the Chicago Board of Trade (CBOT) was down 1.09%. Dalian's most-active soyoil contract was up 0.58%, while its palm oil contract rose 1.05%. Palm oil tracks the price movements of rival edible oils as it competes for a share of the global vegetable oils market. U.S. soyoil futures hit their highest in 20 months on Monday, supported by U.S. biofuel blending proposals that are likely to increase demand, while soybean futures touched a one-month high before paring gains. Malaysian palm oil ends with gains Oil prices rose on Tuesday, with analysts saying that uncertainty would keep prices elevated, even as there were no concrete signs of any production losses stemming from the Iran-Israel conflict. Stronger crude oil futures make palm a more attractive option for biodiesel feedstock. Cargo surveyor Intertek Testing Services said exports of Malaysian palm oil products for June 1-15 rose 26.3% compared to May 1-15, while according to independent inspection company AmSpec Agri Malaysia, the shipments rose 17.8%.

Copper eases on growth concerns, firmer dollar

Copper prices fell on Tuesday as escalating tensions in the Middle East increased worries about global growth and demand for industrial metals while the firmer dollar reinforced negative sentiment. Three-month copper on the London Metal Exchange was down 0.1% to $9,697 per metric ton, as of 1017 GMT. Global stocks slid while oil rose as fighting between Israel and Iran entered its fifth day, sowing fears of a broader regional conflict. Higher oil prices dampen economic growth and stoke inflationary pressures. 'Another war has broken out, unsettling investors, raising concerns about long-term global growth, and prompting a shift away from cyclical assets like base metals and move towards safe-haven assets,' said Panmure Liberum analyst Tom Price. The U.S. dollar index ticked up, making dollar-priced commodities more expensive for buyers holding other currencies. Meanwhile, Citi in a note said it expects copper prices to dip to $8,800 in the third quarter if the U.S. imposes tariffs on copper imports. Until then, U.S. copper imports may worsen supply tightness outside the United States, it said. Copper, other metals drop U.S. President Donald Trump in February ordered a probe into possible tariffs on copper imports to rebuild U.S. production. The probe has resulted in a price premium for COMEX copper futures against LME contracts, which traders and producers have capitalised on by diverting copper supplies from other markets to the United States. U.S. COMEX copper futures traded at a $4.806 lb, bringing the premium over LME copper to $898 a ton. LME aluminium was up 0.4% to $2,522 a ton, zinc fell 0.5% to $2,643.5, nickel shed 0.1% to $15,055 and tin edged down 0.6% to $32,385. Lead was down 1.2% at $1,983.5.
