Hansen shoots Norway to brink of quarter-finals
Barcelona star Hansen snatched the three points in Sion with a mis-hit cross six minutes before the end to keep Norway top of Group with a perfect six points.
Gemma Grainger's side will become the first team to reach the last eight if Iceland fail to beat hosts Switzerland in Bern later on Sunday.

Norway looked set to dominate when Eva Nystrom diverted Hansen's low cross into her own net, and they were unlucky not be two ahead midway through the first half after striking the woodwork twice in the space of a minute.
First, Ingrid Engen nodded Vilde Boe Risa's probing cross onto the post in the 24th minute. Then, Finland goalkeeper Anna Koivunen tipped an inswinging corner onto the upright.
Koivunen pulled off two more superb stops four minutes later, tipping away Hansen's low drive before charging out to deny Ada Hegerberg just as it looked like the former Ballon d'Or winner was certain to net from close range.
Koivunen's goalkeeping heroics were rewarded in the 32nd minute when Oona Sevenius kept her head on the edge of the penalty box to guide home a superb leveller.
Finland suddenly looked far more likely to take the points, with Eveliina Summanen denied a brilliant goal when Norway goalkeeper Cecilie Fiskerstrand tipped a shot onto the post.
Hansen seemed to have missed her chance to win the match for Norway in the 82nd minute when she blasted over from point-blank range.
She made up moments later when she skipped past two Finnish defenders, burst into the box, evaded two more players and lofted the ball in off the post.

Mbappe penalty earns Real win over stubborn Osasuna
Kylian Mbappe's second-half penalty earned Real Madrid a hard-fought 1-0 home victory over Osasuna in their opening LaLiga game of the season on Tuesday, giving Xabi Alonso a winning start in his first league match in charge of the hosts. After struggling to break down a stubborn Osasuna defence in the opening half, Mbappe won the penalty and converted from the spot six minutes after the break to give Real the lead, but the home side were unable to increase their advantage. The visitors had Abel Bretones sent off in added time for a foul off the ball on Gonzalo Garcia as Alonso's side got their league campaign off to a winning, but underwhelming start as they look to wrestle back the league title from Barcelona. Alonso's side, whose last competitive game ended in a 4-0 defeat to Paris St Germain in the Club World Cup semi-finals, completely dominated against a visiting side clearly content to sit back and perhaps come away with a draw, which they almost managed. Real enjoyed plenty of possession in the opening 45 minutes with lots of slick passing, but their only real chances came through shots from distance, with Eder Militao's powerful strike forcing Osasuna keeper Sergio Herrera into a decent save. All Osasuna's defensive work was undone shortly after the break when a foul by Juan Cruz on Mbappe was punished with a penalty, and Real's French forward stepped up and sent the keeper the wrong way as the hosts finally found the net. The goal forced Osasuna out of their shell somewhat, while Real pushed to find a second goal to kill the game off, with Arda Guler unleashing a shot from outside the area which zipped just over the bar. Alonso, who started the game with three of the club's new signings -- Trent Alexander-Arnold, Dean Huijsen and Alvaro Carreras -- in his back four, then sent on 18-year-old Argentine midfielder Franco Mastantuono for his Real debut. Mastantuono almost made an immediate impact, with his effort from a wide angle saved by Herrera at his near post. Minutes earlier, Osasuna had their chance to snatch what would have been an undeserved equaliser but Ante Budimir headed over from inside the six-yard box. With Barcelona beating Mallorca 3-0 in their opening game on Saturday, three points were already a must for Alonso, and he did it without the injured Jude Bellingham, Ferland Mendy, Eduardo Camavinga and Endrick, as well as the suspended Antonio Ruediger.

Transfers: Brendan Rodgers cools Jamie Vardy to Celtic speculation
Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers does not anticipate any last-gasp signings ahead of the Champions League play-offs as he declined to comment on reports linking Jamie Vardy with a move to Parkhead. Celtic have until 11pm tonight night to make up to two amendments to their European squad before hosting Kairat Almaty in the first leg on Wednesday. But Rodgers looks like he will need to continue waiting for the new attacking options he has been looking for. When asked if he now expected to go with the players who are already in the building, Rodgers said: "That's what I am feeling at this moment in time. The players that we have will be the players that I trust that can do the job. "If we can get some players in before then, that would be amazing but the focus has been very much on what is here at this moment." Reports on Monday claimed that 38-year-old striker Vardy had his heart set on a move to Celtic Park after leaving Leicester at the end of last season. "Listen, I would not speak about any individual player," said Rodgers. "Of course I worked really well with Jamie, he was brilliant for me in my time at Leicester. But there's been so many names floated about. I wouldn't disclose either way." FT: 🇸🇪 2-2 🏴 Amazing - England are level through Agyemang. We're going to extra time. #rtesport #WEURO2025 📺 Watch live on @rte2 and @RTEplayer — RTÉ Sport (@RTEsport) July 17, 2025 England forward Michelle Agyemang has returned to Brighton for a second season-long loan spell from Arsenal. The 19-year-old scored two vital equalisers in the knock-out rounds at Euro 2025 to propel the Lionesses into the Basel final, where they successfully defended their title in a penalty shoot-out victory over Spain. Agyemang was named young player of the tournament after her breakthrough campaign, and has been nominated for the women's Kopa trophy at this year's Ballon d'Or awards. Brighton head coach Dario Vidosic said: "We are thrilled to welcome Michelle back for another season. We loved working with her last year, and seeing how much she progressed as part of the squad. "What she achieved during the summer with England was incredible, but not surprising. She has the character, work ethic and relentless nature of a champion. As a club we're incredibly proud of her. "She was a pivotal part of our record-breaking season last year and we're excited for what this new season looks like with her in our attack." Agyemang, during her first spell with the Seagulls, was called into Sarina Wiegman's squad for the first time in April, scoring 41 seconds into her debut as a substitute against Belgium. She scored five goals in 22 appearances for Brighton across all competitions last season. Arsenal director of women's football Clare Wheatley said: "We're so proud of Michelle's achievements this summer and throughout her journey at Arsenal, from her first steps in our academy through to our first-team squad. "After discussing closely with Michelle and her family, we have all agreed that this move will provide Michelle with a further opportunity to develop and grow, as she continues to progress as a young player and person. "We wish Michelle every success at Brighton and look forward to welcoming her back to Arsenal at the end of her loan."

Bayern Munich beat Stuttgart in German Super Cup, Barcelona open title defence with a stroll
HARRY KANE AND Luis Diaz scored as Bayern Munich beat Stuttgart 2-1 away on Saturday to lift the German Super Cup for a 10th time. The match, which opens the German season with the league and cup winners facing off, was held for the first time since it was renamed for football legend Franz Beckenbauer, who died in 2024. A year into their attacking partnership, Michael Olise and Kane were again Bayern's most dangerous, combining for the opener with 18 minutes played. Off balance and falling, Kane collected Olise's pass and hit a low shot across the grass and into the bottom corner for his 86th goal in his 97th Bayern appearance. Pushed on by a 60,000-strong home crowd, Stuttgart went looking for an equaliser late in the second half but Bayern broke through on the counter, Diaz heading in from close range with 13 minutes left. Diaz ran to the corner post and sat on the grass, mimicking former Liverpool teammate Diogo Jota's video-game celebration. It was the latest tribute for Portugal winger Jota, who died in a car accident in July. Stuttgart pulled a goal back through Jamie Leweling in stoppage time. The win netted Kane a second team trophy of his career after the 32-year-old broke his duck to win the Bundesliga last season. Advertisement Praising his charges for a 'deserved win,' Bayern captain Joshua Kimmich said the victory would set the tone for the season. 'We wanted to show everyone that we're here. Wins and titles are not a given — we have to appreciate them,' Kimmich told Germany's Sat 1 network. Meanwhile, Spanish champions Barcelona opened their Liga campaign on Saturday with an island cruise as they played almost an hour against nine men on their way to a 3-0 victory in Mallorca. Barcelona's second-half stroll did not please coach Hansi Flick. 'They're three important points, but I didn't like the match,' he told broadcaster Movistar. 'After going two goals up and following Mallorca's two red cards, I think the team only gave 50% and I didn't like that.' 'Playing at 50 or 60% is not possible against nine players.' Lamine Yamal (file photo). Alamy Stock Photo Alamy Stock Photo Two of Barcelona's Ballon d'Or nominees combined to put the visitors ahead after seven minutes, Lamine Yamal crossing for Raphinha to head in. Yamal played a key role in the second goal after 23 minutes. Mallorca defender Antonio Raillo headed away the teenager's shot and then fell to the ground. As the referee waved play on and Mallorca failed to clear, the ball fell to Ferran Torres. He fired home from the edge of the box. 'If I would be on the other side of the decision I also would be not happy but I always say to my team until the referee stops the match we have to continue,' said Flick speaking in English at the post-match press conference. 'The referee didn't stop the match so there you go. That they are unhappy with that decision I can also imagine.' Manu Morlanes was one of two Mallorca players booked for dissent as they told the referee he should have stopped the game. 10 minutes later, Morlanes received a second yellow for a challenge on the rampant Yamal and was sent off. In the 39th minute, as Barcelona's debutant goalkeeper Joan Garcia jumped to head a ball clear, Mallorca striker Vedat Muriqi challenged with his boot so high he planted his studs on Garcia's cheek. Muriqi also saw red. Barcelona strolled through the second half. Flick brought on summer loan signing Marcus Rashford, whose league registration only cleared on Saturday morning, for his Liga debut. Deep into injury time Yamal picked up the ball on the right, left three defenders trailing as he cut across the top of the penalty area and curled a left-foot shot into the top corner with the final kick of the game. 'He surprises you every day. He's a spectacular player,' said Flick. Elsewhere, Paul Pogba watched as Monaco easily beat Le Havre 3-1 in their Ligue 1 opener on Saturday as Lyon won away at Lens. – © AFP 2025
