'I'm calm and composed' – Naim Daniel focuses on clearing his name
PUTRAJAYA – Singer and actor Naim Daniel has chosen not to comment further on the sexual assault charge brought against him, stating that he is placing full trust in the justice system to clear his name.
Speaking to the media after the proceedings at the Sessions Court here today, Naim, whose full name is Muhammad Naim Daniel Baharin, 28, said the charge was serious and came as a shock.
"I was just charged with a serious offence. I understand that many have questions and this has undoubtedly surprised some people.
"For now, I don't wish to say much as I don't want any statement to interfere with the trial.
"I leave everything to the justice system and I am determined to clear my name. I also hope the public will pray for the best," he said. Earlier, Naim pleaded not guilty at the Sessions Court to a charge of committing physical sexual assault against a 17-year-old girl at a hotel in Petaling Jaya on May 19.
The charge was framed under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017, which carries a penalty of up to 20 years' imprisonment and whipping, upon conviction.
The closed-door proceeding was held before Judge Datin M. Kunasundary.
Asked about his current condition, the "Sumpah" singer said he was doing well and currently focusing on his personal well-being.
"Alhamdulillah, I'm healthy. Right now, I'm focusing on my well-being. I'm calm and not overreacting," he said.
Regarding his entertainment activities, Naim said all matters were still under discussion with his management, particularly in relation to previously arranged performance schedules.

The ministry hoped that the case would serve as a reminder to all operators in the tourism industry to be more responsible and ethical in conducting business activities. It said that the offence under Act 482 is a serious criminal offence and that it will take appropriate action against any person who violates the law.

Johor police say woman in employer assault case suffered bruises, had pre-existing health issues
JOHOR BARU, June 18 — Police have confirmed that a female employee who was beaten by her employer in an incident at an office in Taman Kota Masai, Pasir Gudang here on May 15 had other health problems before the incident was reported to have occurred. Seri Alam District Police Chief ACP Mohd Sohaimi Ishak said this was based on a medical report from the hospital which also stated that the 34-year-old woman only suffered scratches and bruises as a result of the incident. 'This woman did indeed have an illness and needed surgery and it was not related to or caused by the case (incident). We have taken this matter to the medical officer and they confirmed that it was a minor injury and so far the case is being investigated under Section 323 of the Penal Code,' he said when met by reporters at the Johor Contingent Level Monthly Gathering at the Johor contingent police headquarters, here today. He said this when asked to comment on the claim that went viral on social media that the woman needed to undergo treatment and surgery in hospital due to injuries from the incident. He said his party had completed the investigation papers and they had been submitted to the deputy public prosecutor for charges. Mohd Sohaimi was previously quoted as saying that the police were investigating following a viral video recording showing a woman being assaulted by her employer in an office, with the report from the woman received on the same day at around 5.53pm. — Bernama
