In Delhi's Bawana, nephew of jailed gangster Manjeet Mahal, was shot dead during a morning walk. Police suspect gang rivalry, with fugitive gangster Nandu as the main motive.
A man was shot dead in broad daylight in Delhi's Bawana area during a morning walk on Friday.
The victim is the nephew of jailed gangster Manjeet Mahal. Police suspect gang rivalry as the main motive behind the murder, Hindustan Times reported.
As per the reports, infamous gangster Nandu, who is currently in hiding in London, is the prime suspect. Notably, Mahal had a long-standing rivalry with UK-based fugitive gangster Kapil Sangwan alias Nandu.
The victim, 43-year-old Dipak, was on a morning walk in Nangal Thakaran village with his daughter when at least two unidentified killers on a motorcycle opened fire on him.
The attackers reportedly fired seven to eight rounds, killing Dipak on the spot. His daughter sustained pellet injuries to her hand during the incident. She was immediately taken to a nearby hospital for treatment and is now reported to be out of danger, a senior police officer confirmed.
In a similar incident that occurred in Punjab, jailed gangster Jaggu Bhagwanpuria's mother and one other person accompanying her were reportedly shot dead by unidentified people on a bike in Batala. The victim, identified as Harjit Kaur, sustained critical injuries and was transferred to a hospital in Amritsar, news agency PTI reported. She died later from her bullet injuries.
'Unidentified bike-borne persons opened fire when Harjit Kaur and another person Karanvir Singh were in the car," Deputy Superintendent of Police, Batala, Paramveer Singh said.
Harjit Kaur, who hails from Bhagwanpur, was earlier elected as a member of the village panchayat.
Jailed gangster Jaggu Bhagwanpuria had been detained under the PIT-NDPS Act in March. He was shifted from the central jail in Bathinda to Assam's Silchar jail. Meanwhile, Bhagwanpuria was already in the custody of the Punjab Police in the 2022 Sidhu Moosewala murder case, along with several other cases against him.

Youth tricked by fake job offer in Russia dies of ‘stress'

Pudukottai: A 24-year-old youth from Pudukottai, who was allegedly duped by a Tirunelveli-based agent with the promise of a job in Russia, died at a lodge in Delhi on Aug 13. The family owed his death to the severe mental distress he was in after waiting in vain for three months to fly abroad. The victim, G Rajapandi of Andavarayapuram in Alangudi taluk, had approached job consultant Vadivel Pillai in Tirunelveli hoping to secure employment in Russia. His father, a fisherman, said that the agent collected ₹2.03 lakh from them in instalments since Oct 2024. "The agent assured that Rajapandi would be sent abroad within three months," Rajapandi's brother Ravi Varman said. A petition submitted by the family to the district collector said Rajapandi was first taken to Chennai and then to Delhi in May and made to stay in a private lodge in Vasant Kunj after repeated cancellation of his flight tickets, citing visa issues. The family said he spent over ₹60,000 on accommodation until Aug, while the agent kept delaying his travel. When Rajapandi pressed for a refund, the agent allegedly returned only ₹18,000 in small amounts through online transfers. Struggling under debt after pawning his mother's jewellery and borrowing from neighbours, the youth was under immense mental pressure, Ravi said. On Aug 13, Rajapandi was found dead at his lodge in Delhi. CCTV footage shows him suddenly collapsing while trying to open the door. His body was brought to Chennai after post-mortem. While doctors in Delhi have indicated a possible cardiac arrest, the family does not accept it, and are awaiting the final post-mortem report for clarity. Along with their petition, the family also submitted WhatsApp voice messages in which Rajapandi is heard lamenting to his friends that Vadivel Pillai had cheated him. The family has urged the authorities to initiate action against the agent on charges of cheating and abetment of suicide. HC seeks record of charges framed against Cong MLA Sanjay Awasthi

Shimla: The Himachal Pradesh high court has directed advocate general Anup Rattan to place on record the photocopies of the relevant documents of the case in which the special judge Solan has framed charges against Congress MLA from Arki, Sanjay Awasthi, and cricketer Vikramjeet Malik . The directions came from the division bench comprising Chief Justice Gurmeet Singh Sandhawali and Justice Ranjan Sharma during the resumed hearing of a suo moto case pertaining to the pending criminal cases against the MPs and MLAs in the state, on Tuesday. The advocate general informed the court that the special judge Solan had framed charges against Awasthi and Malik on April 21, 2022. MLA Awasthi is facing charges of wrongly authenticating the veracity of cricketer Malik's claim of being a resident of Solan to register himself with the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association (HPCA) and to play with the Himachal Ranji team. Awasthi, who is himself a cricketer, was then president of the Solan District Cricket Association and also served as a municipal councillor in Solan from 2000 to 2005. Malik, born in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, played in the Himachal Ranji team as a bowler and was later part of the Kings XI Punjab IPL team from 2009 to 2011. He then shifted to Rajasthan Royals in 2013, and later Royal Challengers Bangalore picked him in the 2016 auction. The state vigilance and anti-corruption bureau had registered a case of cheating, forgery, and false documentation against various cricketers from other states for obtaining Himachal domicile certificates on false documents. The vigilance had filed the first chargesheet in the court in June 2013 against cricketer Kuldeep Diwan, who claimed to be a resident of Kullu. Malik and another Delhi-based cricketer, Sobers Joban, are co-accused in the case. The high court has posted the matter for the next hearing on Sept 8. Former employees arrested for stealing IT firm's data, causing loss
