D.A.: Third person charged in fatal Mattapan shooting from February
24-year-old Jair Meeks of Mattapan has been charged in connection with a fatal Mattapan shooting from February, the Suffolk County District Attorney has announced.
Meeks is being charged with one count of accessory before the fact and has been ordered to be held on bail.
Alongside Meeks, Shavon Darby, 29, of East Weymouth, and Roberto Orlando Taylor, 29, of Dorchester, were also charged back on May 8.
The incident took place back on February 4, around 11:30 PM, when officers responded to a report of a person shot in the area of 35 Tennis Road near Blue Hill Avenue in Mattapan.
Upon arrival, officers found 33-year-old Mauricio Lawrence suffering from gunshot wounds.
Lawrence passed away while being transported by EMS to Boston Medical Center.
During the investigation, police obtained surveillance video which showed Meeks entering Lawrence's place of work about six hours before the shooting to record him. Outside, Darby and Taylor waited nearby in a Honda Accord.
In audio obtained by the Honda's dashcam, Meeks can be heard telling Darby and Taylor to 'wrap [the gun] up in a bag' and to 'try to catch the shells'. Meeks also advised the two to put different tire rims on the car to alter its appearance and to use special tape to cover the license plate, making the vehicle harder to detect.
Later that day, Darby and Taylor followed Lawrence in the Honda Accord when he left work. As Lawrence arrived to his apartment door, Taylor approached him and fired. A ShotSpotter activation had detected 18 shots in seven seconds. Taylor then returned to the car, and he and Darby drove away.
Darby sent Meeks a text the following morning saying, 'It's complete.'
Meeks, Darby, and Taylor are due back in Suffolk Superior on June 17 for pre-trial hearings.

Couple stabs each other during bloody fight in Queens apartment
A Queens couple stabbed each other during a violent fight inside a Queens apartment early Saturday, officials said. It was one of two bloody blade attacks that took place in the city within five hours, the NYPD said. The two victims, a 27-year-old man and a 24-year-old man, were inside their apartment at NYCHA's Pomonok Houses on Jewel Ave. near Parsons Blvd. in Flushing at about 4 a.m. when they started arguing with each other, cops said. As the fight continued, one of the men pulled a knife, cops said. The two stabbed each other as they fought over the knife. When cops arrived, each man was suffering from multiple stab wounds to the body, cops said. EMS rushed both victims to New York Presbyterian-Queens, where the younger man was rushed into surgery and listed in critical but stable condition. The older victim was also listed in stable condition. The knife was recovered as detectives determined what sparked the fight. There were no prior domestic incidents at the apartment, a police source with knowledge of the case said. In an unrelated incident five hours earlier, two men, both 53, were found slashed inside he basement of a Sunset Park, Brooklyn, home on 58th St. near Seventh Ave. One of the victims was slashed in the neck, cops said. The second man had a deep gash to his head. Both were taken to NYU Langone Hospital-Brooklyn where the one slashed in the neck was listed in critical condition. The other man is expected to recover. No arrests have been made in either case. The bloody back to back attacks come as felony assaults in the city were down, but only by less than 1%. As of May 25, cops had investigated 11,066 felony assaults, 21 fewer than this time last year, cops said.

COPA investigating after Chicago police shot man who fired gun, hit officer with truck on Northwest Side
The Civilian Office of Police Accountability is investigating after Chicago police shot a man overnight in the Belmont Cragin neighborhood. It happened just after 2 a.m. in the 3100 block of North Central Avenue. Police said that officers responded to a battery in progress and shots fired outside of the business. An employee told officers that during a large fight, someone had fired a gun and directed them to the person, a 28-year-old man, who was getting into a red pickup truck. As officers approached on foot and ordered the man out of the vehicle. He refused and accelerated the vehicle in their direction, hitting an officer. The officers then fired their weapons at the truck as it continued to leave the scene. Responding officers found the truck in the 3200 block of North Menard Avenue, where the man, who had been hit by the officers' gunfire, was on the ground near the vehicle, suffering from gunshot wounds to his body. Officers immediately rendered aid until EMS arrived. He was treated and taken to Illinois Masonic Hospital in critical condition. Police said a weapon was recovered from inside the truck. The Investigative Response Team is investigating the circumstances involving the incident. The Civilian Office of Police Accountability is investigating the specifics of the incident, including the comprehensive use of force investigation, with the full cooperation of the Chicago Police Department. The officers involved will be placed on routine administrative duties for a minimum period of 30 days.
