Taiwan has unveiled the world's first robotic nurse. Equipped with advanced artificial intelligence (AI) technologies, the robot is designed to assist across various nursing sectors both within the country and internationally.
Notably, the demand for this innovative nursing robot is expected to grow, as the World Health Organization (WHO), the United Nations agency responsible for coordinating global public health responses, has projected a shortage of at least 4.5 million nurses by 2030. This shortage is driven by factors such as the increasing complexity of the job, inadequate wages, and the heavy workload placed on hospital nursing staff.
It is worth noting that the new nursing robot is a joint venture between several leading technology companies, including Foxconn, a Taiwanese multinational electronics manufacturer; NVIDIA, an American technology company; and Kawasaki, a Japanese multinational corporation specializing in motorcycles, heavy equipment, aerospace and defense, and other advanced industries. The robot is designed to handle heavy loads and perform some of the most demanding tasks in clinical patient care. It is also equipped with artificial intelligence (AI) technologies that allow it to analyze patient data and quickly relay the information to doctors.
Moreover, experts anticipate that Nurabot will assist in transporting medicines and medical equipment within hospitals, guiding and accompanying visitors, and reducing the physical burden on nursing staff. It is also expected to be especially useful during night shifts, when hospitals often face shortages of medical and nursing personnel.
