Two UAE endurance riders make history in 1000 km 'Mongol Derby'
Two UAE endurance riders Sheikh Khalifa Al Hamed and Issa Al Khiyari concluded their historic participation in the 'Mongol Derby' endurance race by tying for first place with American rider Michael Pollard and British rider Anna Boden. The world's greatest equine adventure race, covering a distance of 1,000 km, was held over eight days from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., making it the longest in the world for this distance. It began on August 4 and will culminate with the awards ceremony on Wednesday. Sheikh Khalifa Al Hamed stated that reaching the finish line with his fellow rider Issa Al Khiyari was an achievement in itself, given the extremely challenging conditions and great obstacles. These included varied terrains, mountain passes, green valleys, rolling hills, plains, sand dunes, and riverbeds. He explained that they were determined to continue the race until the end to demonstrate the capabilities of Emiratis in facing challenges, and not to withdraw from such a difficult competition despite the circumstances during the race. Meanwhile, dozens of riders withdrew at various stages due to exhaustion and difficulties in handling the Mongolian horses, with the rest of the participants failing to reach the finish line after eight days. Sheikh Khalifa Al Hamed revealed that the daunting challenge they faced was handling the unfamiliar Mongolian horses—unlike other races where the rider competes with their own horse. In addition, staying on horseback for about 12 hours a day made simply reaching the finish line a major accomplishment in their first-ever participation. The Mongol Derby is an equestrian endurance race and world's longest horse race. It extends 1,000 kilometres through the Mongolian Steppe.

UAE issues travel advisory, urges residents to pick 'reputable' tour operators
After a tragic accident in which two Emiratis were killed after their tour bus fell into a riverbed in Turkey, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the UAE (MoFA) has issued an advisory to Emiratis and UAE residents who travel abroad. The UAE is a hub for international travel, and its connectivity means that many residents make yearly trips, for business and pleasure, all around the world. In the advisory, the ministry urged both Emiratis and residents to make sure that they are aware of the travel rules when they go to a different country. Here are five important guidelines that the authority outlined. Local laws: It is important for travellers from the UAE to be aware of and respect local laws and traffic regulations in the countries they visit. Weather conditions: The ministry advises travellers to check weather and road conditions — both before and during their visit. Driving: Tourists and visitors to foreign countries should be doubly cautious when travelling via road or driving, since they are unfamiliar with the local terrain and traffic regulations. Air travel: The ministry has urged travellers to opt for air travel over road journeys, stressing that the former is safer and more comfortable. Tour operators: It is important to vet tour operators and car rental companies before availing of their services. Tourists are urged to entrust their travels only to reputed companies. UAE nationals can also use the dedicated 24-hour emergency hotline, 0097180024, when needed. Accident in Turkey According to Turkish news agency IHA, the accident took place in a district of Trabzon. The tour bus, which was carrying six people in total, plunged into a stream bed. Of the six people, five were Emirati tourists. Among those who passed away were 18-year-old Mariam Muhammad Ahmad Ibrahim and her 32-year-old brother, Abdulmajid Muhammad Ahmad Ibrahim. The others survived the accident but sustained injuries. These include 15-year-old Ibrahim Muhammad Ahmad Ibrahim, 53-year-old Samira Muhammad Abdurrahman, 60-year-old Muhammad Ahmad Ibrahim and the driver of the vehicle, 39-year-old Abdulkadir Boğoçlu. A medical helicopter was requested to transport the injured, and an investigation into the accident is ongoing.

UAE attractions lead TripAdvisor's list of best places to visit in the Middle East
The UAE has topped TripAdvisor's 2025 Travellers' Choice Best of the Best awards, with the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque in Abu Dhabi ranked as the No 1 attraction in the Middle East and eighth in the world. Known for its striking white marble domes, intricate floral mosaics and reflective pools, the mosque welcomes millions of visitors each year. Guided tours offer insight into Islamic architecture and traditions, making it both a cultural and architectural highlight of the capital. Dubai also dominated the list with a range of attractions. Burj Khalifa, the world's tallest building, remains a major draw with its observation decks offering panoramic views of the emirate and beyond. Nearby, Dubai Mall combines retail with entertainment, housing an Olympic-sized ice rink, a large aquarium and an underwater zoo. The adjacent Dubai Fountain – although currently closed for renovation – is known for putting on daily choreographed water shows set to music, drawing large crowds in the evenings. Aquaventure Waterpark, located at Atlantis, The Palm, earned recognition for its record-breaking water slides, lazy river and interactive dolphin experiences. Aura Skypool, billed as the world's highest 360° infinity pool, gives visitors an elevated view of Dubai's skyline. Other Dubai favourites on the list include the sail-shaped Burj Al Arab, one of the most photographed hotels in the world; Miracle Garden, with its themed floral displays and sculptures; and Global Village, a seasonal destination featuring pavilions from countries around the world. In Abu Dhabi, Ferrari World's high-speed rides, including the Formula Rossa roller coaster, secured it a place among the region's best. The Travellers' Choice Best of the Best awards are based on the quality and quantity of reviews over a 12-month period, highlighting attractions that consistently deliver positive visitor experiences. In January, Dubai was the only Middle Eastern city to make TripAdvisor's Best of the Best Destinations list for 2025, placing third globally behind London and Bali. TripAdvisor described Dubai as a place that 'mixes modern culture with history', from shopping and entertainment to exploring souqs along Dubai Creek. The emirate also ranked seventh in both the Best Destinations for Solo Travellers and the Top Destinations of the Last 25 Years categories.
