BMC Visits Shah Rukh Khan's Mannat After Complaints Over Rules Violation
However, when Shah Rukh Khan's manager was reached out to comment on the issue, she said, "There are no complaints. All work is going on as per guidelines."
A team of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation in Mumbai reached Shah Rukh Khan's Mannat on Friday, which is currently under renovation. Reportedly, a joint team of forest department and BMC officials inspected the Bollywood superstar's bungalow at Bandra Bandstand after a complaint which alleged that the renovation work is violating coastal regulation zone rules.
A forest department official confirmed an inspection at Shah Rukh Khan 's residence and said, 'A team did carry out a site inspection as we received a complaint about renovation permissions. A report will be prepared based on the findings and submitted soon," as quoted by ETimes.
The entertainment portal also claimed that the BMC's H-West ward building and factory department, and the building proposal department officials, were asked to accompany the forest team for the inspection. 'Our officials were accompanying the team, based on a request by the forest department. We had no other role," the official said.
Another official, who was also present at the time of inspection, stated that the Mannat staff who were present there told them that they would submit all documents and permissions they had taken.
However, when Shah Rukh Khan's manager was reached out to comment on the issue, she told ETimes, 'There are no complaints. All work is going on as per guidelines."
Interestingly, all this comes a day after former IPS officer and lawyer Y P Singh alleged the layout of Mannat comprised one main heritage building called Villa Vienna as per the heritage regulations.
'The name of this building was changed to Mannat later. In 2005, an extension building of seven floors was made behind the heritage bungalow and since at that time Urban Land Ceiling Act was in force, a large apartment could not have been made. To overcome this legal hurdle, approval for 12 small independent flats was taken from the BMC by the owners namely Shah Rukh Khan and Gauri Khan. However, once the approval was obtained all these 12 small flats, which were essentially meant for mass housing under the Urban Land Ceiling Act, were merged and a super luxury accommodation of a single family was constructed," Singh said.
'Without the help and connivance of the municipal officers this would never have happened. Even though the Urban Land Ceiling Act is no longer in force, actions taken during the time when the Act was in force have been saved. Therefore, it is legally compulsory for the owners of Mannat to restore those 12 independent small flats immediately so that the objective of mass housing could be accomplished and the eminent principles of rule of law are upheld," he added.
Meanwhile, Shah Rukh Khan and his family are not living in Mannat as of now. Due to the renovation work, they have moved to a new building nearby.

‘Sholay' ushered in tech revolution, changed movie experience for ever
Kolkata: On a cool Oct morning in 1975, nearly two months after 'Sholay' hit Bombay and Ahmedabad screens, the film finally unspooled at Kolkata's Jyoti Cinema. The delay hardly mattered. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now What followed was nothing short of cinematic history — a run that lasted 103 weeks, a week short of two years, and rewrote the rulebook for how the city experienced movies. "For Kolkata audiences, 'Sholay' was not just a film; it was an event, an initiation into a new era of spectacle," said Jyoti Choukhani, owner of Bharat Laxmi Studio and Navina Cinema Hall. Movie halls needed superior projection quality to have that effect. Thus, the upgrades were far from cosmetic. In the mid-1970s, most Indian films were shot in 35 mm, but Sholay was converted to 70 mm with stereophonic sound in London — a process impossible to do in India at the time, Choukhani added. Jyoti's technical preparedness meant that when Kolkata finally got 'Sholay', it wasn't just screening a film, it was experiencing an imported technological marvel. The original owners of Jyoti, the Mansata family, went to extraordinary lengths to ensure that the viewing experience matched the grandeur of the film, said Asish Banerjee, the current secretary of the Eastern India Motion Picture Association (EIMPA). They installed a massive 70 mm screen — one of the few in eastern India — and a state-of-the-art stereophonic sound system tailored for 'Sholay'. "I vividly recall the scene where Amitabh tosses the coin and it lands on its edge," said longtime moviegoer Gaurav Gayen, now in his early 70s. "The sound was so sharp and the screen so large, it felt as if the coin landed right at my feet." "My parents' wedding anniversary is always remembered as 'the year Sholay came'," chuckled film-buff Anirban Chatterjee. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now "It became a time marker for our lives." Jyoti's success with 'Sholay' also underscored how a well-equipped cinema could draw repeat crowds and sustain long runs without deficit matinee shows — rare in Kolkata's Hindi film circuit. Not only Jyoti, 'Sholay' was in high demand across Bengal. "Even at Berachampa, our hall (Banirupa) ran housefull for months together after my father managed a print after a long struggle. I still remember how the movie brought fortune to my family," said Subhas Sen, now EIMPA vice-president. His is one of the few theatres from the 'Sholay' era that still survives the flux. Industry insiders note that 'Sholay' also changed the economics for exhibitors. "A film of that scale meant better ticket pricing, longer bookings, and stable revenue for nearly two years," said a retired cinema distributor. "It gave theatres the confidence to invest in sound, projection, and seating." Off-screen, the film's record-breaking run coincided with the coining of the term 'Bollywood' and a redefinition of Hindi commercial cinema. Gabbar Singh's "Kitne aadmi the?" and Jai-Veeru's friendship anthem entered everyday speech. Britannia even used Gabbar in a biscuit ad — the first time a Hindi film villain was tapped to sell a consumer product. Looking back, the story of 'Sholay' in Kolkata is as much about new cinema vision as it is about the film itself. By marrying technological ambition with a once-in-a-generation film, the Mansatas gave the city a cinematic memory that still echoes, stereophonically, through time.

War 2 Advance Booking: Hrithik Roshan, Jr NTR Actioner Sells 78,000 Tickets In Hindi Chains
Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR's War 2 sells 78K Hindi tickets with a day to go, aiming for a Rs 30–35 crore opening day. With just one day left for its grand release, War 2 is making solid strides at the box office in India. Directed by Ayan Mukerji, the high-octane action drama stars Hrithik Roshan, Jr NTR, and Kiara Advani in pivotal roles. The Hindi version's advance bookings have been performing well, with momentum picking up after ticket sales opened in the southern states. In the top cinema chains — PVRInox and Cinepolis — War 2 has already sold 78,000 tickets for its Thursday opening, with the final figure expected to land between 1.5 to 1.75 lakh tickets. This strong pre-release response sets the stage for an opening day in the Rs 30–35 crore net range for the Hindi version alone. Telugu States Bookings Begin Strong for Jr NTR Fans In the Telugu-speaking states, bookings for War 2 have started on a promising note, largely driven by Jr NTR's fanbase. While the numbers won't match typical Tollywood blockbusters — given the film's positioning as a Bollywood project — they remain 'pretty solid." Industry trackers predict that the Telugu-dubbed version could secure the third-highest Bollywood opening in the region, behind Saaho and Adipurush. The Independence Day holiday on Day 2 offers a major boost opportunity, with War 2 aiming for Rs 50 crore-plus net collections in Hindi on Friday. The film's clash with Rajinikanth's Coolie wasn't initially considered a major concern. However, Coolie's strong pre-release momentum in certain markets has slightly tightened the race. International Bookings Off to a Moderate Start While domestic sales are encouraging, War 2's international advance bookings remain modest. Current estimates point to a USD 2.5 million opening day and USD 8 million opening weekend overseas. Globally, the film is tracking for an opening weekend in the Rs 300–350 crore range. By comparison, Coolie appears on course to approach Rs 400 crore worldwide. With massive star power, slick action, and the backing of a major franchise, all eyes are now on audience word-of-mouth. Positive reviews could be the key factor that pushes War 2 towards record-breaking numbers both domestically and internationally. view comments Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
