Tennis stars want investigation into pros using focus-enhancing ADHD drug
Several tennis professionals want the game's governing bodies to investigate the number of players taking ADHD medication, claiming it could enhance their focus in matches.
James Allemby, coach of Hong Kong's No 1 tennis player Coleman Wong Chak-lam, said the issue deserved 'a bigger lens' than the doping scandals surrounding multiple grand slam winners Jannik Sinner and Iga Swiatek.
The debate around players diagnosed with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder taking Adderall, which contains amphetamine and makes the user more awake, focused and calm, was reignited earlier this year when Brazilian Karue Sell said the sport was not clean.
'The feeling you get when you're on Adderall is that you're locked in all the time,' Allemby said. 'You don't have that loose second serve return when you're down 15-40 in a match, it just doesn't happen because you're so tuned in.'

'We've got a bunch of guys taking Adderall,' Sell said. 'I personally don't think tennis is clean, I'm more on the case of players who can take Adderall [where] you can just be locked in mentally for hours.

Draper eased ahead of Fonseca with an early break to lead 2-1 in the first set, before the world number five broke again and held service to clinch the opener. The Briton survived two break-back points while serving for the second set but managed to see out the tightly-contested frame when Fonseca dumped an attempted forehand winner into the net. Defeat in the 10th game of the second set seemed to deflate Fonseca as Draper immediately broke him twice to race into a 4-0 lead in the decider before serving out for the win. Draper now holds a 2-0 record over Fonseca, with their previous meeting ending in a straight-sets victory for the 23-year-old at Indian Wells earlier this year. That match was the start of Draper's successful run in the Californian desert, which culminated in his first Masters title. (AFP)

Ruben Amorim's side, who finished 15th in the Premier League for their worst season since 1974, looked lethargic and devoid of ideas in the gruelling heat. Some fans at Bukit Jalil National Stadium left before the end and there were boos at the final whistle. United have struggled for goals all year and it was more evidence why they are reportedly prepared to shell out US$85 million on Brazilian international attacker Matheus Cunha from Wolves. Amorim, who was clearly frustrated during the match and shook his head at times, refused to confirm the Cunha deal. The Portuguese coach was happy though to leave the Malaysian capital with no new injuries and had no issue with fans booing his team off. "We were slow and we still don't have it in us to win every exercise in training, every game," he said. "The boos from the fans, it's something that we need." "These people believe in Manchester United no matter what the context. It's our duty to improve the team and to improve the team next season," he added. "For me, we need to have that belief, that hunger to win every game, that is important."
