Chandigarh: Strawberry Fields students net top spots in 3 of 4 ISC Class 12 streams
Three students of Strawberry Fields High School, Sector 26, clinched top spots in three of the four streams in the Indian School Certification (ISC) Class 12 exams, whose results were declared by the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE) on Wednesday.
Aarit Sharma, 18, led in the tricity region, bagging 99.5% marks in commerce stream. A resident of Sector 12, Aarit plans to pursue bachelors in commerce from Sri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC), Delhi University.
Holding a deep interest in accounts and mathematics, he wishes to pursue a masters as well, but eventually wants to join his father Amit Sharma's liquor business.
Bringing more laurels to the school, Tarika Bahl, 18, and Advay Bajaj, 18, emerged as the top scorers in humanities and non-medical streams, respectively.
Daughter of justice Vikas Bahl, presently a judge at the Punjab and Haryana high court, Tarika also wants to study law, but isn't too keen to follow directly in her father's footsteps.
The Sector 10 resident sat for the Panjab University's BA LLB entrance exam on Sunday, but says she has her sights set on becoming the first civil servant from her family.
While his schoolmates celebrated together on Wednesday, Advay was flying back from the US, where he has been accepted at Brown University, an Ivy League college.
His proud father, Arvind Bajaj, shared Advay remained the school captain and also participated in various extracurricular activities, including football. He has also applied for a patent for an adulteration detection technology that he developed.
The medical stream saw two students landing the top rank— with both securing 95% marks.
Among them are 17-year-old Navtaj Kaur of St Xavier's Senior Secondary School, Chandigarh, and 18-year-old Hunnardeep Kaur Virk of Yadavindra Public School, Mohali.
After completing Class 10 from Fazilka, Navtaj shifted to Chandigarh for Class 12 due to a dearth of good ISC schools in the city. Her next goal is to crack an MBBS seat in AIIMS, Bathinda.
For Hunnardeep, who also studied maths as an extra subject, a career in biotechnology engineering, and not medicine, is the way ahead.
In Chandigarh, Strawberry Fields High School, Sector 26, and St Xavier's Senior Secondary School, Sector 44, are affiliated to the CISCE for Class 12, while in Mohali, only Yadavindra Public School offers ISC Class 12. There is no ISC school in Panchkula.
Last year, Sabreen Kaur Mann of YPS had secured the highest percentage with 98.75% in humanities.

Kolkata schools get CISCE notice on uniform exam fees
Kolkata: The Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE) on Friday issued a circular to heads of several city schools affiliated to the board informing them about the uniform examination fees for ISC and ICSE examinees. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The Council has fixed the fees to ensure uniformity in local fees charged from candidates and payments made to examination functionaries across all centres. Principals of several city schools have welcomed the move. For ICSE the fees has been set at Rs 4,350, and Rs 5,450 for ISC. The charges will be effective from the 2026 examination notice clearly states that schools are no longer permitted to collect any additional fees from students appearing for ICSE or ISC. The Council aims to curb arbitrary charges in terms of examination fees imposed on examinees. Earlier, local charges for various facilities, including refreshments and transportation, and travel allowance for external examination functionaries were determined at meetings between school heads and conveners of respective zones. Sources said there were several discrepancies observed as CISCE never interfered to determine local examination fees previously. The Council has included expenses for printing and sending stationery parcels to conveners and the collection of answer script parcels as well. Terence John, director of education at Julien Day Group of Schools, said, "This is a very good move taken by the Council. It's good for schools as well." Another school principal said, "Charges have slightly increased but it still remains in the affordable range. Earlier, several schools imposed extra charges on their students." National English School's principal Mousumi Saha said, "This has reduced the extra burden on schools and conveners. Now, everything will be controlled centrally."

Japan's reusable rocket startup ISC eyes US test launch in December
A Tokyo-based rocket startup said on Wednesday it will test-launch a prototype in the United States in December using an American engine, aiming to achieve the first U.S.-Japan joint commercial launch and address Japan's rocket shortage. The global race for commercial launch vehicles has been driven by SpaceX, which on Tuesday conducted a ninth test for its fully-reusable Starship. U.S. rivals including Blue Origin and companies in China and Europe also have reusable launcher plans. But Japan lacks cost-competitive launchers at home, which the government sees as a bottleneck in its efforts to double the domestic space industry's size to 8 trillion yen ($55.4 billion by the early 2030s. Innovative Space Carrier (ISC) said its ASCA 1.0 reusable launcher will conduct a 100-metre (109-yard) flight and landing test in Spaceport America in New Mexico, using a Hadley rocket engine from U.S.-manufacturer Ursa Major. Starting at a low altitude, ISC will repeat "ninja training-like" tests towards the goal of building an orbital launch vehicle by 2028 to cater to emerging Japanese satellite makers, ISC chief executive Kojiro Hatada told a press conference.
