Meng Ziyi was once rejected for being too pretty?
The actress, known for dramas like "The Legend of Condor Heroes" and "The Untamed", recently sat down for an interview, where she revealed that she was rejected for a project in the early years because her beauty does not suit the role.
Admitting that it stunned her, Meng said, "if you say that my acting is not good enough or that I am not known enough, that I can admit. But you said that I am too pretty to act?"
Meng said that the comment made her feel uneasy to this day, and that beauty should not be a sin.
"You can say that I am not suited for the role or that you think I can't handle it at this stage or that you want a more famous actress. But when you tell me that I can't do it because I am too pretty, it creates a doubt in me, like, is there anything wrong with being beautiful?" she said.
The interview had since sparked heated discussions among netizens, with one saying, "There are many beautiful actresses in the industry. Her appearance is not that outrageous, right?"
Another posted, "Maybe her acting skill wasn't so good and that the crew was just trying to give her a way out."

Norman Abdul Halim addresses misunderstanding on GenKRU concert
15 Aug -Norman Abdul Halim found himself clarifying a misunderstanding regarding media reports about the cancellation of the GenKRU Concert in Penang earlier. Norman, who explained that KRU never officially announced a concert or launched ticket sales under the GenKRU brand in Penang or in any other states, stated, "While we had intentions to stage a GenKRU concert in several states, after conducting technical studies and assessing feasibility, we decided to drop the idea." "It wasn't a cancellation of a planned concert in Penang per se, but rather a decision not to proceed with organising a GenKRU-branded concert there," he said in a video statement distributed to the media. Norman added that the GenKRU concert at Axiata Arena in Kuala Lumpur last May was a one-of-a-kind event that couldn't be replicated. "Let the GenKRU Concert at Axiata Arena remain in a class of its own, as a special memory for the fans who attended. However, we did record the concert, and it will be broadcast," he said. In the same video, Norman mentioned that they are currently reviewing the format and content of their performances before staging concerts outside Kuala Lumpur. "But these projects will be under a different brand, not GenKRU. We don't want to disappoint fans or invite comparisons with our previous concerts," he said. Norman added that fans must wait for their announcement and not believe rumours. (Photo Source: Yusry IG, Norman IG)

Classic Anime ‘Angel's Egg' Comes To Theaters This November
Courtesy of those nice people at GKIDS, the classic anime Angel's Egg will see a limited theatrical release this November. The reason this is noteworthy is that Angel's Egg was originally an OVA, which meant it was a direct video release in Japan back in the 80s. It never saw a theatrical release. Moreover, this new version has been remastered in 4K by the director Mamoru Oshii, so it already looks beyond pristine, as the trailer below attests. Angel's Egg is also a fascinating anime because not only was it conceived by Oshii, but also by renowned artist Yoshitaka Amano. The result was and is a unique and haunting anime, full of abstract concepts and visuals. While Angel's Egg wasn't exactly successful when it was released in Japan back in 1985, it has since garnered a passionate cult following in the decades since. Both in Japan and abroad. It's also worth highlighting the anime's musical score, penned by Yoshihiro Kanno, not to be confused with Yoko Kanno. The score beautifully complements a very complex set of visuals and elevates the whole anime to be almost dreamlike. The premiere of this new 4K remaster of Angel's Egg will be held at this year's New York Film Festival, and then given a limited theatrical release on November 19. The anime will also be available to stream via HBO Max on September 1. Follow me on X, Facebook and YouTube. I also manage Mecha Damashii and am currently featured in the Giant Robots exhibition currently touring Japan.
