Rangers' scathing response to Scottish FA complaint revealed

Glasgow Times8 hours ago

The former Ibrox player made the comment after the failure to award Rangers a second goal against Hibernian in a Scottish Premiership contest.
Nico Raskin had appeared to net a second goal, to make it 2-0, before Rocky Bushiri cleared the ball.
However, no goal was awarded as Hibs then counter-attacked and scored to equalise.
VAR did not intervene in the matter as there was no conclusive angle to say the ball was definitively over the line.
Furious at the call, Brown said on Rangers TV: "I would say it is corrupt."
Commentator Tom Miller cautioned: "Well, I'm not sure we can actually say that," before Brown continued: "Well, I am saying it."
A Scottish FA notice was issued to Rangers over the commentary under article 29.2 of the rules which read: "A club or recognised football body which publishes, distributes, issues, sells or authorises a third party to publish, distribute, issue or sell a match programme or any other publication or audio/visual material of any description in any media now existing or hereinafter invented, including but not limited to the Internet, social networking or micro-blogging sites, shall ensure that any such publications or audio/visual material does not contain any criticism of any match official calculated to indicate bias or incompetence on the part of such match official or to impinge upon his character."
Now, Rangers have submitted a full response to the complaint citing the KMI panel verdict that the goal should have been awarded and referencing previous similar incidents which did not result in action from Hampden chiefs.
A Rangers spokesperson said: 'Rangers FC has submitted a full response to the Scottish FA's Notice of Complaint concerning a remark made during commentary of the Hibernian v Rangers match at the end of last season. The club firmly denies any breach of Scottish FA rules.
'We are surprised that a complaint has been raised at all, given the context of the comment and the Scottish FA's prior treatment of similar incidents.
'Our response highlights that the Scottish FA's own Key Match Incident Panel judged that the referee's decision on the day was incorrect, with four out of five panel members agreeing that a goal should have been awarded to Rangers. That finding helps explain the nature of a spontaneous emotional comment, delivered during a highly charged moment and immediately challenged live on air.
'Our response also sets out serious concerns about the Scottish FA's selective enforcement and inconsistency. We have highlighted multiple examples of similar or stronger remarks made elsewhere in Scottish football that have led to no charges or sanctions.
'While we remain committed to maintaining high standards, we will continue to challenge any action we consider to be unfair or disproportionate. For many supporters, this charge only adds to the wider frustration surrounding regulatory oversight in recent months when there are more serious issues in the game to tackle, including improving officiating standards for the benefit of Scottish football.'

Wrexham line up ambitious double swoop for two Scotland stars as Celtic hero set to join third club in a YEAR

Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) WREXHAM had three Scottish players in their team last season as they continued their rise up the English pyramid and into the English Championship. As things stand, though, there are no Scots in the squad for their Championship push this year - after both Steven Fletcher and Josh Adams left at the end of their contracts, while James Jones quit the club in January. SunSport understands Wrexham - owned by Hollywood superstars Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney - are eyeing up deals for out-of-contract duo Stuart Armstrong and Barry Bannan. Former Celtic and Dundee United midfielder Armstrong, 33, is on the hunt for the sixth club of his career - and his third in less than a YEAR. He left Southampton after six years at St Mary's last summer when his deal expired and spent a number of weeks without a team before he headed across the pond to link up with old pal Ryan Gauld at Vancouver Whitecaps. Armstrong only penned a short-term deal with the MLS side and headed back to the UK to join Sheffield Wednesday for a few months when that deal expired. And he's a free agent once again as he was released by the Owls when the season finished last month. He played alongside club legend Bannan last season, who is also searching for a new team for the first time in a decade. The 35-year-old, who is Sheffield Wednesday's captain, is also coming to the end of his deal and could be set for one last move before he retires. The Owls have been in talks with the veteran to extend his contract beyond this summer but both parties have yet to reach an agreement. Now newly-promoted Wrexham are plotting to prise the midfielder away from Hillsborough this summer. Wrexham stars including ex-Premier League ace party with Hollywood hunk Channing Tatum after Cambridge draw Should the duo complete the move then they will face their former Sheffield Wednesday team-mates in the league next season. The Owls finished in 12th place last season with both Bannan and Armstrong featuring regularly. Bannan made 45 appearances across all competitions, while Armstrong played 11 times since arriving at the end of January. Rangers star urged to 'sign the contract' on new deal

The Rangers midfielder, who has two years left on his current deal, has become a fan favourite at Ibrox. Team-mate Dujon Sterling has joined in with supporters, asking Raskin to commit to a new contract. Sterling, who also has two years remaining on his contract with Rangers, made his plea on Instagram. A fan commented on one of Sterling's posts, in which Raskin had commented 'My boy', saying 'You better be staying wee man.' Sterling responded to the comment, writing 'Sign the contract!!!!!'. Raskin has previously said he is enjoying his time at Ibrox and plans to stay for the foreseeable future. He said: "Look, I've been enjoying myself this season and it's not so often that you can enjoy yourself in a club. "I'm really happy here. I've got two more seasons in my contract. "So, as long as the club wants me, I'll be here and then we'll see what happens."

The £3m reason Rangers are paying close attention after first 49ers transfer domino falls

Gers may revive their interest in striker Joe Gelhardt who has been pushed further down the pecking order at Leeds There's a £3m Rangers may be paying close attention after Leeds announced the signing of striker Lukas Nmecha on a free transfer. And his name is Joe Gelhardt – a potential signing that makes sense for more reasons than you may think. ‌ Andrew Cavenagh and the new owners at Ibrox are in the early stages of what should be a dramatic rebuild and finding the new man to bang in the goals will be key to that – particularly with the news that Cyriel Dessers could be on his way to AEK Athens as a deal in the region of £5m is being thrashed out. ‌ There's no official alliance with Leeds but their chairman Paraag Marathe joining the Ibrox board after the San Francisco 49ers-backed takeover tells you there is likely to be some crossover. And after the Elland Road side today added former Man City forward Nmecha to their ranks in their first addition of the summer, it opens the door for Rangers to move for a long-term target. Back in January it was heavily reported they were keen on striker Gelhardt, who has long been viewed as a rising star but now looks in need of a fresh start. In the end he stayed close to home, instead joining Hull City where he scored five goals in 20 appearances. But with Leeds now tooling up for life back in the Premier League with Nmecha's arrival, his prospects of an Elland Road revival look slim to non-existent. His reasonable goalscoring form at Hull, coupled with Leeds' strengthened negotiating position and a contract which still has two years to run, mean he won't come dirt cheap. ‌ But a reasonable £3m asking price has been mooted down south – meaning Dessers' exit would be able to fund it with some change left over. An outright sale for Gelhardt seems more likely than a loan deal at this stage of his career and, if they do decide to go down that route, there's an obvious reason Rangers would be the preferred bidder. ‌ That would allow them to part ways while keeping a close eye on his development at a club under the same ownership umbrella – and potentially include a favourable buy-back option in the event that he hits the ground running at Ibrox. Gelhardt, now 23, has been capped by England up to U20 level but hasn't really kicked on since his £1m move from Wigan in 2020. He's played against Russell Martin's Southampton team in the past so will be known to the new man at the helm. He's spent time on loan at Sunderland and more recently Hull where he featured in a number of attacking positions, although is primarily a central forward and may relish the chance to nail down the No.9 jersey at his next club.
