Harry Potter fans say same thing about casting as clip of new Hermione actress resurfaces

Daily Record29-05-2025
Harry Potter fans have all been left saying the same thing after a clip of Arabella Stanton playing the new Hermione Granger resurfaced.
Harry Potter enthusiasts are all echoing the same sentiment after a video of the young actress set to portray the new Hermione Granger resurfaced.
Arabella Stanton is stepping into Emma Watson's shoes in the television adaptation of JK Rowling's series, alongside Dominic McLaughlin as Harry Potter and Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley.

The trio will join an impressive cast that includes John Lithgow, Paapa Essiedu, and Janet McTeer, who will portray Hogwarts headmaster Albus Dumbledore, Severus Snape, and Minerva McGonagall, respectively.

In addition, Luke Thallon will play Defence Against The Dark Arts teacher Quirinus Quirrell, Nick Frost will embody Hagrid, and Paul Whitehouse will play Squib caretaker Argus Filch.
While some viewers have already threatened to boycott the new series due to Rowling's controversial views on transgender issues, others are eagerly awaiting further details.
Most recently, the actors playing Harry, Hermione and Ron were unveiled, and Arabella's remarkable acting career has come into focus.

The star previously portrayed Matilda in the West End musical production, and fans have unearthed a clip from her performance of When I Grow Up, which was broadcast on The One Show in March 2024 to commemorate World Book Day.
The clip shows her taking centre stage in a blue pin-striped dress, walking towards the stage through the audience aisle, before her fellow young cast members burst into song on stage.

After the performance went viral with over 33,000 views on YouTube, fans unanimously praised Arabella's casting as "perfect".
"From this alone, I can tell she's going to be an amazing Hermione," one admirer remarked.
"So everyone ran here after learning she's playing Hermione, right? Sorry, not sorry, but I think they're perfect," another fan expressed.

"I can actually see her as Hermione!! Nice casting," commented a third viewer.
A fourth enthusiast shared: "Well done, Ms. Granger. 10 points for Gryffindor."

"SHE WAS PERFECTLY CAST AS HERMIONE," another person exclaimed.
"Cryingggg, I'm so happy everyone is accepting her as Hermione. She's perfect," another person added.
Arabella also took to the stage in Andrew Lloyd Webber's roller-skating musical Starlight Express in 2024, portraying the character Control.
Last year, she reflected on her role as Matilda on an Instagram account managed by her parents, posting: "I started auditioning for Matilda the Musical the week after my 9th birthday and feel so lucky and honoured to have spent the age of 9 being able to play Matilda Wormwood at the Cambridge Theatre, London for the Royal Shakespeare Company (and at Buckingham Palace for an extra special performance at the BBC 500 Words Final).
"Being able to play the part of Matilda as my West End debut has been incredible .. dreams really can come true!"
The Harry Potter TV series will land on HBO in 2026.

Amber Davies hits out at 'selfish' theatre goer for 'ruining' her West End performance in The Great Gatsby in furious online rant

Former Love Island winner Amber Davies has hit out at a 'selfish' theatre goer for 'ruining' her West End performance in The Great Gatsby. The theatre actress, 28, took to Instagram in full stage make-up while backstage at the London Coliseum following her latest show. After Saturday evening's performance, Amber issued a warning to those attending the musical after being distracted by someone in the audience. She told Instagram followers: 'This is a PSA. The closer you are to the stage when you're watching a show the more obvious it is when you're filming. 'This is the entire stalls. If you're filming in the stalls we can see you! From someone who's on stage, I just wanna tell you a little bit about what we see. So we see like a dark canvas and outlines of people's heads. 'If you're filming, the reflection from the lights bounce straight back off your ... the back of your iPhone onto us on stage. So it is the one thing we can see.' She then criticised one particular audience member. 'So to the woman filming New Money tonight - you distracted absolutely everybody on that stage. 'And not only that, it takes us out of the Gatsby world because you're filming and you've basically ruined that moment for everybody else who was watching the show tonight.' 'Please don't be selfish. Stop filming shows. If someone is filming during a show know that this is the consequences that it has to the people on stage and tell them to stop because honestly it's annoying. 'Also, I single-handedly will count how many seats back you are and tell our stage manager where you're sitting and what colour hair you've got, and trust me, in the interval they will come and ask you to delete the footage so you've basically done it for nothing. 'Okay, I'm gonna enjoy act two now.' The production, running at the London Coliseum from April 16 to September 7, brings F. Scott Fitzgerald's iconic story to life in dazzling style. In February, the complete casting for the West End production was revealed. Joining the previously announced Jamie Muscato as Jay Gatsby and Frances Mayli McCann as Daisy Buchanan are Corbin Bleu as Nick Carraway, Amber Davies as Jordan Baker, Joel Montague as George Wilson, John Owen-Jones as Meyer Wolfsheim, Jon Robyns as Tom Buchanan and Rachel Tucker as Myrtle Wilson. Adapted from F. Scott Fitzgerald's classic American novel, The Great Gatsby follows the mysterious millionaire Jay Gatsby and his quest to win back the heart of married socialite Daisy Buchanan, his former flame. This musical adaptation arrives in London following its 2024 Broadway premiere, where it won the Tony Award for Best Costume Design. Earlier in January, the star lashed out at trolls who criticised her for her work schedule. The beauty, who won Love Island back in 2017, took to Instagram at the time to share a snap of herself returning to work at the Universal Music Group studios, where she was thought to be recording her podcast Call to Stage. Captioning her mirror selfie, Amber penned: 'First working day of 2025', before adding: 'Time to buckle up.' And while the West End star seemed in good spirits about getting back to the grind, she found herself facing backlash at having only just returned to work 20 days into the new year. A second image on Amber's stories then showed the response she received on her last post, with one person responding: 'Imagine going over half the month without working ' alongside eye roll emojis. Clearly unimpressed with the criticism, Amber then wrote over the screenshot, hitting out at the person as she remarked that she 'needed the break' before urging them to not judge. She wrote: 'Erm I need the break. I lived out of a suitcase on tour for a whole year with no day off in sight, whilst doing 8 shows a week & then worked all the way up to week before Xmas so ... Don't judge my unemployed downtime.' Amber's hard work she referred to was her year-long role as Vivian Ward in the touring production of the Pretty Woman musical. The star then went on to further address the criticism in a video shared to her stories as she opened up about the difficulties of self-employed working and noted that she would have worked 'if the work was there'. Speaking to the camera, Amber said: 'I literally love the internet. Everyone's like "you don't need to justify yourself". And I'm like "justify myself for being self-employed?".' She went on: 'Like, yes, I've had half of the month off, the majority of the month off, because 1) I'm self-employed and 2) I did need a break, but if the work was there, I would have worked.' Captioning her clip, she added: 'Love to the self employed'.

Harry Potter event axed as annual tradition that saw Jude Law and Eddie Redmayne attend is permanently cancelled

A Harry Potter event, that saw celebrities such as Jude Law and Eddie Redmayne attend has been permanently cancelled. Traditionally, hundreds of fans gather in fancy dress at Kings Cross to recreate the scene of students pushing through the wall to the hidden Platform 9 and 3/4 where the Hogwarts Express waits. The Back to Hogwarts tradition, which celebrates the start of each academic year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry every September 1, has previously involved the train service being displayed on departure boards. Last year Warner Brothers Discovery announced the cancellation of the public event and have now confirmed the event will also be cancelled this year. A statement released in July on the Wizarding World website advised fans to stay away from Kings Cross. It read: 'Special Hogwarts notice: alas, we must once again discourage fans from attending King's Cross Station on 1st September, as there will be no countdown or train announcement occurring in 2025. Safety first, folks.' A spokesperson confirmed to The Sun: 'It is the same for this year, in that we won't be hosting the event at the station.' There will however be a screening of the fourth Harry Potter film at Cineworld Leicester Square with actors James and Oliver Phelps hosting a Q&A. Last month, it was revealed the Wightwick Hall steam locomotive is on track for worldwide fame as it has been selected to feature as the Hogwarts Express in the upcoming Harry Potter TV series. The locomotive, which has been beautifully restored over 41 years by volunteers, will transport the wizard from platform 9 and 3/4 at London's King's Cross station to the school of magic. The Wightwick Hall was built in 1948. It travelled 640,000 miles with the Great Western Railway before being withdrawn in 1964 and sold to a scrapyard in Barry, South Wales. In 1978 it was bought for £9,180 by volunteers from Buckinghamshire Railway Centre in Quainton who restored it. The loco is now on long-term loan to the Bluebell Railway in West Sussex. The Wightwick Hall will spend six months a year filming for the HBO series for the next eight years. It will run at the tourist attraction in between shoots. Filming for the latest adaptation of JK Rowling's novels will begin this month and the show is due to air next year. Dominic McLaughlin, 11, has landed the role of Harry Potter while Arabella Stanton, 11, will play Hermione Granger and Alastair Stout, 11, will star as Ron Weasley. In the films, released between 2001 and 2011, the Olton Hall engine – now at the Warner Bros Studio Tour near Watford – starred as the Hogwarts Express. Filming for the series began in May, with cast and crew seen setting up on the Île de Sein off the coast of Brittany, France.

A sign would also appear on the departure boards signalling the train going to "Hogsmeade" the town near where Hogwarts is located. In 2018, Hollywood stars Eddie Redmayne and Jude Law even attended to promote Potter spin-off movie Fantastic Beasts 2. However, last year fans booed when the fun public address failed to take place - and now we can reveal it will not return next month. National Rail said the event had attracted far too many crowds and had posed issues for genuine travellers getting their trains. A spokesperson said the last full gathering in 2023 saw thousands of people turn up 'which made it challenging for us as station operator'. They have now confirmed to The Sun: 'It is the same for this year, in that we won't be hosting the event at the station.' Instead, organisers Wizarding World and Warner Bros Discovery are putting on an online alternative this September 1. Writing on Facebook, fans were hopeful last year was just a blip. They said at the time: 'It's so sad that this was cancelled… nice to have traditions as most things have been ruined these days.' Another added: 'It brings people together.' JK Rowling hails BBC host for refusing to say 'pregnant people' live on air And another: 'It's awful they took a small piece of fun away, life's too short." A third said: 'It was so nice that the station used to actually announce this, such fun. But I can see why they decided to end this - way too many people and too much of a disruption for a real train station.' The Potterverse is currently experiencing a boost in popularity with the upcoming Amazon-produced series, which began filming last month. The book series, written by Rowling, began with Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, released in 1997, to huge commercial success. The first film, starring Daniel Radcliffe in the title role, came out in 2001. There are a total of seven books and eight films, ending in 2011. The franchise has since continued to grow exponentially, including the WB studio tour at Leavesden Studios, and The Wizarding World of Harry Potter sections within Universal theme parks in Orlando, Hollywood, Japan and Beijing. More than 23 million passengers started or ended their journey at Kings Cross in 2022, according to Railway Data. A Warner Bros. Discovery spokesperson said: "Similar to last year, we can confirm that there will be no Back to Hogwarts event, announcement, or countdown at Kings Cross Station, and fans should not plan to go there on 1st September. "We have plenty of fun in store for fans celebrating Back to Hogwarts however, both online and in person. "Plans include a special free screening of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, with a live Q&A with James and Oliver Phelps, special giveaways, competitions and more." 9 Thousands of fans turn up for the event each year Credit: PA 9 Crowds watch on at the station - with 'magical' suitcases seen in the background Credit: Getty 9 Law and Redmayne attended the event to promote Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes Of Grindelwald Credit: Getty Images - Getty 9 A Potter fan on Platform 9 and 3/4 Credit: Alamy
