Tour de France: Jonathan Milan wins stage 17 after crash-strewn sprint
Milan prevailed in a 10-man sprint after the peloton was held up behind a massive crash with just one kilometre to go, as riders went down on slippery roads in a rainy finish in Valence. Biniam Girmay was attended to by race doctors after a crash with 1km to go.
Tadej Pogacar crossed the finish line safely to retain the overall leader's yellow jersey. France's Quentin Pacher and Mathieu Burgaudeau, as well as Jonas Abrahamsen of Norway and Italy's Vincenzo Albanese, broke away early but stood little chance against the collective power of the sprinters' teams.
With the peloton breathing down their necks, Abrahamsen went solo with 11km remaining, only to be reined in 4.3km from the line. Milan was the strongest in the reduced sprint, edging out Jordi Meeus of Belgium and Denmark's Tobias Lund Andresen, who were second and third, respectively.
Thursday's 18th stage is a brutal mountain trek between Vif and the Col de la Loze, one of the most feared ascents in the Tour.

F1 car wheeled off Belgian Grand Prix grid minutes before race in huge blow
Alpine's miserable season went from bad to worse at the Belgian Grand Prix when Pierre Gasly suffered a car problem before the Sprint race even began. As a result, his car was wheeled off the grid just 15 minutes before the start of Saturday's short-form race. Gasly had headed out onto the track with the rest of his rivals for his reconnaissance laps of the Circuit Spa-Francorchamps ahead of the first of two races this weekend. The Frenchman would have been eyeing a possible points finish after superbly qualifying eighth on the grid for the Sprint. But he never even got the chance to start after reporting a loss of power while heading to the grid. Alpine called him into the pit lane but Gasly ignored that request, as he pulled up at the back of the grid as usual to be wheeled to his starting spot. His engineers did exactly that, but it soon became clear that the problem was more serious than they had hoped. They took the engine cover off the car and spotted a problem that could not be fixed on the grid, and so the car was wheeled back tot he garage just a few minutes before the start of the Sprint. And the team confirmed shortly after that the car had suffered a water leak issue and that Gasly would not be able to start. The 29-year-old was soon out of his car and looking frustrated as he spoke to team boss Flavio Briatore and his engineers back in the garage. To make matters worse for the team, Gasly's team-mate Franco Colapinto was set to start from the pit lane after changes were made to his car. The Argentine had qualified in the bottom five anyway and so was already unlikely to score points. ---

Rory McIlroy proves himself a Masters at partying as he lets loose in Saint Tropez after Green Jacket triumph
Golfer Rory McIlroy was seen taking a well-earned break this week. The Northern Irishman was spotted partying on the French Riviera after his triumph at the Masters earlier this year. He was caught letting loose at a beach club in Saint Tropez in a social media video shared by a fan. And the five-time major winner, 35, couldn't resist a humble brag when the fan asked him: 'Where's the Green Jacket?' The fan first attempted to shout to McIlroy over the loud thumping music before typing out his question to the golfer on his phone. McIlroy immediately lit up when he spotted the message, pointing to the supporter and letting out a laugh. The PGA Tour star, who clutched a glass of white wine in his hand, pried himself away from the dancefloor and made his way over to the fan. McIlroy, who looked relaxed figure in a black button-down shirt, swimming trunks and a backwards white cap, then claimed his Green Jacket was 'on the yacht' before sharing a laugh with the fan. The golfer then returned to his partying as he was captured bouncing up and down and waving his arm to the beat. Champions of The Masters receive a coveted Green Jacket. However, the prestigious prize must be returned to Augusta National Golf Club 12 months after their triumph where it is kept in the clubhouse until their yearly return for the major championship. McIlroy appeared to be partying with some friends as he was seen with his arm wrapped around a man's shoulders. However, there was no sign of wife Erica Stoll in the clip and it is unclear if she and their daughter Poppy have joined McIlroy in the South of France. McIlroy was overcome with emotion in April after he finally won The Masters in a dramatic playoff against Ryder Cup teammate Justin Rose. He finally slayed his demons at Augusta National to complete the career Grand Slam after 11 years. Following a turbulent year off the course, he emerged from a chaotic final round of the 2025 Masters a champion and toasted the long-awaited end to his Masters drought with Erica, 37, and Poppy. However, he has failed to come close at any of the remaining majors this year. He finished tied-47th at the PGA Championship in May and tied-19th at the U.S. Open last month, sparking concerns about his struggles. He failed to chase down his biggest rival Scottie Scheffler at The Open last week, managing to just finish in the top 10 in a share of seventh.

Tour de France 2025 live: Stage 20 route and updates as Tadej Pogacar closes in on fourth yellow jersey
The penultimate stage of the Tour de France is a hilly 184km route from Nantua to Pontarlier, after the conclusion of the Alpine stages yesterday. Thymen Arensman won a truncated Stage 19 in the mountains after breaking away from Tadej Pogacar and Jonas Vingegaard, while Oscar Onley 's podium dream took a hit as he lost time to Florian Lipowitz. There are four categorised climbs but this could be a day for the puncheurs, and potentially significant for the points classification. And it may bring more twists in the general classification, too, with the steep Cote de Thesy coming towards the end of the stage. But barring any late drama, Pogacar 's tight grip on the yellow jersey looks set to last all the way to Paris, as he comes closer to a fourth Tour de France triumph of his career. Stage 20 preview Now the Pyrenees and the Alps are over, and there are just two more stages to get through before the podium ceremony and champagne-popping in Paris. Stage 20 screams 'breakaway': a hilly, punchy route through the Jura mountain range, beginning in Nantua, in the foothills of the Alps, and taking in four classified climbs on the 184km road to Pontarlier. In total there's 2,850m of climbing but none difficult enough to trouble the general classification contenders, who will likely sit tight in the peloton and be wrapped in cotton wool by their teammates as they're shepherded towards Paris. That means there will be 14 winless teams from this year's race fighting to get in the day's breakaway, setting up a no doubt chaotic first few kilometres of racing as a group establishes itself.
