The Saudi
Ministry of Interior
has issued a warning to all expatriates and visitors, stating that those who overstay their visas during the

season will face strict legal consequences. The announcement comes as part of wider efforts to manage the flow of pilgrims and maintain order during the upcoming Hajj period.
Under the new enforcement guidelines, violators may be fined up to $13,000, face imprisonment for up to six months, and be deported after serving their sentence. The Ministry of Hajj and Umrah has instructed all Umrah visa holders to exit Mecca by April 29 to avoid penalties.
The ministry has also reminded the public that visit visa holders are not allowed to perform Hajj. It urged all visitors to respect the terms of their entry permits and to leave the country on time.

Bhopal loses Haj embarkation point tag, pilgrims to fly from Indore

Bhopal: The state capital faces a significant change in Haj pilgrimage arrangements, losing its status as an embarkation point. Direct flights to Saudi Arabia from Bhopal will not operate next year. Indore stands as the only departure point among 17 designated cities across India. The direct Haj flight service from Bhopal to Saudi Arabia began in 2010. Pilgrims must now travel to Indore to access direct flights to Mecca-Medina, as it remains the sole departure point in the state. Approximately 8,500 people from the state undertook the Haj pilgrimage last year. The revised arrangement particularly affects pilgrims from central and eastern Madhya Pradesh. Residents from Vidisha, Raisen, Sehore, and Hoshangabad districts, who previously benefited from Bhopal's accessibility, now face additional travel requirements. According to the State Haj Committee, nearly 2,000 pilgrims from Bhopal and neighbouring areas must now travel 200 kilometres to reach Indore. The total number of pilgrims from MP was 8,500. This change increases both expenses and travel duration for pilgrims. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Is this legal? "We have written to the higher authorities to continue Bhopal as the embarkation point," said the Chairman of the Madhya Pradesh Haj Welfare Committee. While Indore's designation ensures one departure point remains in Madhya Pradesh, its location presents travel difficulties for numerous state residents. Officials confirm that Indore airport's facilities have been upgraded to manage increased pilgrim numbers. The airport has implemented additional support services to handle the higher volume of departing pilgrims. The Haj Committee plans to set up a helpdesk in Bhopal to support pilgrims, offering guidance about transport options and accommodation facilities in Indore. New Town man begins 1,500 km journey across Himalayas on moped

1 2 Kolkata: A 55-year-old Kolkata resident and former Guinness record holder, Subrata Boral, is all set to start a 1,500-km journey in the Himalayas, covering nearly a dozen motorable passes across Kashmir, Ladakh, and Himachal on a moped. Boral, who held the Guinness record for biking at 20,488 feet, is a resident of Kalipark in New Town. He set off on his journey on Tuesday afternoon from Gulmarg after the humble 110 CC moped left the hill town. In next one month, he will traverse more than 1,500 km while crossing nearly a dozen passes. The highest pass Boral is scheduled to cover is located at an altitude of 19,024 feet. "Umling La is the highest paved road and mountain pass in the world. Apart from that, I have plans to cover passes like Marsimik La (18,314 ft) in the Chang Chenmo range in Ladakh, Khardung La (17,582 ft) in the Ladakh Range in Leh, Tanglang La (17,480 ft) in Leh, and Zoji La (11,575 ft) in Ladakh," Boral said. Boral started riding bikes in 1995 and began covering long stretches on 100 CC bikes. In 1997, he went to Khardung La and reached the Everest Base Camp on a bike in 2000. In 2008, he reached the Chang Chemmo range in Aksai Chin on a bike and made it to the Guinness World Records . by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Is this legal? "It is not the machine, but the man who rides it. I gave it a try with a scooter last year. I traversed nearly 2,000 km in the Himalayan range and decided to use a moped this time," he said. "While a moped is easy to manoeuvre, it lacks the momentum needed to tackle mountain stretches. The one I am using can reach a speed of up to 60 km. But a moped is easier as there are areas where the rider has to drag a two-wheeler," he said. Crowd survey begins at Kainchi Dham week after Haridwar stampede

1 2 3 4 5 6 Dehradun/Haridwar: A crowd capacity survey began at Kainchi Dham in Nainital district to assess daily footfall and vehicle load, days after a stampede at Haridwar's Mansa Devi temple killed nine people and injured 45. The tourism department launched the exercise to prevent similar incidents during peak seasons and festivals, when many popular religious sites see overwhelming crowds. Tourism officials said Kainchi Dham was selected as the first location for the pilot study due to its consistently high footfall, especially in June during the annual bhandara in memory of Neem Karoli Baba. The temple draws lakhs of devotees annually and was already being monitored as a high-density spiritual site. The July stampede at Mansa Devi occurred on the first Monday of Shravan, a day that traditionally sees large turnouts, prompting urgent safety reviews at other key shrines. Under the new system, National Population Register (NPR) devices and CCTV cameras have been installed across the temple premises. A dedicated team is monitoring the number of devotees entering the shrine and the vehicles arriving in the area. Officials said the survey will help build a site-specific understanding of carrying capacity and guide the implementation of crowd-control strategies. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 5 Books Warren Buffett Wants You to Read In 2025 Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo Tourism department officials added that similar assessments would be conducted at other prominent shrines in Uttarakhand, including Mansa Devi and Chandi Devi temples in Haridwar, Purnagiri temple in Champawat, and Piran Kaliyar near Roorkee. "We've started the assessment from Kainchi Dham. The survey will determine the number of pilgrims and tourists visiting the shrine daily, as well as the volume of vehicles arriving in the area," an official said. Haridwar DM Mayur Dixit told TOI that a combination of short- and long-term measures had been rolled out at Mansa Devi temple following the stampede. "We have discussed a long-term redevelopment plan with senior officials, which includes widening of the pedestrian route and overall infrastructure upgrades at the temple. A detailed proposal has also been sent for consideration under the Kumbh Mela budget," he said. As part of immediate safety steps, all shops located within the temple complex and along the pedestrian route have been shut. A primary health centre will be built on-site to handle medical emergencies. The administration has also created a designated holding area within the premises and sealed the rear gate for routine use—it will now be used only as an emergency exit. To improve access and crowd movement, encroachments have been removed from the temple's approach routes. Authorities are also planning to install a permanent police check post in the area. The temple committee has been asked to deploy private security personnel and sanitation workers to ensure hygiene and order during busy hours. Dixit said a proposal had been submitted to repair and upgrade the hill bypass route to help manage pilgrim flow during peak seasons. He added that the entire temple and surrounding walkways would soon be brought under full CCTV surveillance for real-time crowd management and rapid emergency response. Officials said the survey results will help develop customised crowd management plans based on each site's topography and infrastructure. The goal is to ensure a safer, more organised pilgrimage experience for devotees, particularly during high-traffic days such as festivals and melas.
