Who is the one foreign national killed in Pahalgam terror attack?
A tourist from Nepal was among the 26 people killed in the deadly terror attack on a group of tourists in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, on Tuesday.
The attack took place in the afternoon at Baisaran valley – an off-road meadow a little over 6 km from Pahalgam – when it was packed with tourists. Terrorists showed up and fired indiscriminately at them.
Who is Sudip Neupane?
Sudip Neupane, a 27-year-old Nepali national from Butwal in Rupandehi district, had travelled to the scenic region with his mother, sister, and brother-in-law for a holiday when the attack took place in an off-road meadow described as the deadliest civilian attack in India in nearly two decades.
His mother, Rima Pandey, sustained injuries and is currently undergoing treatment. According to his grandfather, the terrorists asked Sudip his religion before shooting him after he 'identified himself as Hindu', news agency ANI reported.
Sudip held a Bachelor's degree in Public Health and worked on an oral health project in Kathmandu.
Nepal's Minister for Foreign Affairs, Arzu Rana Deuba, confirmed his death and condemned the attack, stating Nepal is in close contact with Indian authorities. The Foreign Ministry, in an official statement, said Nepal 'unequivocally condemns the barbaric terrorist attack on innocent tourists' and expressed solidarity with India.

The 'Kashmir Resistance,' an offshoot of the Pakistan-based terror group Lashkar-e-Taiba, claimed responsibility for the attack, stating it was in protest against the alleged demographic change in the region.
Nepali leaders including President Ramchandra Paudel, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, and Minister Deuba extended condolences and reaffirmed Nepal's position against terrorism. PM Oli also spoke to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to express sorrow and support.
The Army and police launched a massive operation for the perpetrators behind the attack. A total of seven terrorists, including four-five from Pakistan, are suspected to have opened fire on tourists at the Baisaran valley meadow in Pahalgam on Tuesday, The Indian Express has learnt.

Lucknow eyes Unesco's ‘city of gastronomy' tag
1 2 Lucknow: The City of Nawabs, known for its sumptuous kebabs and royal culinary traditions, is now vying for global recognition. Lucknow has been officially nominated for inclusion in the UNESCO Creative Cities Network (UCCN) as a "City of Gastronomy" — a title currently held by only one other Indian city, Hyderabad. Confirming the development, Lucknow divisional commissioner Roshan Jacob said, "We have submitted our nomination, and additional data will be sent by the end of June. Post that, Unesco may conduct a field visit to verify our claims. Lucknow's culinary culture is not just historic—it's a living tradition passed down over centuries." The nomination, coordinated by the state's department of tourism and culture, highlights the city's rich Awadhi fare—iconic dishes like Tunday kebabs, galawati, nihari, biryani, khasta, kulfi, and jalebi that have drawn food lovers from across the globe. Heritage conservationist Abha Narain Lambah, appointed to prepare the Unesco dossier, noted, "Lucknow's gastronomic heritage was enriched by the royal kitchens of Awadh and continues to thrive across communities—from Brahmins and Baniyas to Kayasthas, Khattris and working-class families. The city offers a diverse culinary ecosystem, from legendary kebabs to humble khasta and puri-sabzi." "Food Lucknow is a major food destination," she added. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Pessoas com dores no joelho devem fazer isto à noite Saude News Saiba Mais Undo Special secretary, tourism, Eesha Priya, said the application is now under review by the Union Ministry of Culture. "The blueprint prepared by Abha's team is detailed and data-backed. We're hopeful Lucknow will make the cut," she said. Unesco's Creative Cities Network recognizes cities with vibrant cultural sectors. Globally, cities like Alba (Italy), Arequipa (Peru), Bergen (Norway), Belem (Brazil), and Bendigo (Australia) are already part of the list under the gastronomy category. Experts say Lucknow offers a compelling case. "The artistry in Awadhi cooking—from the dum pukht technique to refined spice layering—is unmatched. Lucknow isn't just about food, it's about storytelling through cuisine," said Ahad Arshad, a local food chain operator. Culinary expert Adil Hussain added, "Hyderabad may be known for its biryani and haleem, but Lucknow offers a deeper, more nuanced food journey—from Mughlai meats to street snacks. It's a complete sensory experience." Officials point out that while the city is celebrated for its non-vegetarian delights, vegetarian and sweet offerings are just as noteworthy. "Dishes like Bajpai ki Puri, Durga ke Khaste, Malai Paan, and Motichur ke Laddoo are integral to Lucknow's identity," said an officer involved in the bid. With the final submission underway and Unesco assessment awaited, Lucknow could soon find itself on the world's gastronomic map—one kebab at a time.

Amid summer rush, tourists irked over deteriorating infra at Ranchi waterfalls
Ranchi: With summer holidays at its peak and all popular tourist spots, especially Jharkhand's picturesque waterfalls, facing a massive rush of people from all corners, popular destinations like Hundru, Dassam, and Jonha are facing a crisis. Basic public infrastructure at these sites, including benches, shade structures, toilets, and drinking water facilities, has fallen into state of disrepair, dampening the tourist experience and also raising safety concerns. Visitors, arriving for a scenic and refreshing escape, are now met instead with broken seating, cracked concrete platforms, rusted railings, and defunct restrooms. For families with children and elderly visitors, the lack of clean and usable amenities has become a major deterrent. A tourist from Bokaro, Priya Mandal, who visited Jonha Falls last week, said, "The benches were either broken or missing entirely. We had to stand or sit on the ground under the scorching sun. The toilets were so dirty, we couldn't use them. It was quite disheartening." Local vendors who run food and souvenir stalls near the waterfalls echoed tourists' concerns. "Tourist inflow is good but everyone is returning with complaints. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Buy Brass Idols - Handmade Brass Statues for Home & Gifting Luxeartisanship Buy Now Undo More people will visit if the government starts repair work on the facilities," said Ramesh Mahato, a tea stall operator at Dassam Falls. Meanwhile, Shivendra Kumar, tourism nodal officer, Ranchi, confirmed that the issue has been officially addressed. "We have received detailed reports on the abysmal condition of public infrastructure at major waterfall sites. We've already forwarded a proposal for repair and restoration to the department," he added. "Clearance is awaited. Once funds are sanctioned, we will immediately begin a phased restoration of benches, rest areas, toilets, and safety signage," Kumar said. Tourist footfall has seen a noticeable uptick since the start of the summer break, with thousands thronging these spots each weekend. Yet, the influx has only worsened the visible neglect. Another visitor from Dhurwa, Sangeeta Mishra, who visited the Hundru falls, said, "It was shocking to see the condition of the toilets. There was no water, no cleanliness, and the odours were foul. We cut short our trip because the kids were feeling uneasy. It is hard to enjoy nature when basic hygiene is missing." Many tourists have begun pressing for time-bound action. "We aren't asking for luxury, just clean toilets and safe seating. If Jharkhand wants to promote eco-tourism, these basics must be non-negotiable," said Ranchi-based entrepreneur Manish Singh, who recently visited Hundru Falls with friends.

Israel says it found body of Gaza chief Mohammed Sinwar in tunnel beneath hospital
The Israeli military has confirmed that the body of senior Hamas leader Mohammed Sinwar was found in a tunnel beneath a hospital in Gaza, weeks after he was killed in an airstrike. Sinwar was the younger brother of Yahya Sinwar. read more A video released by the Israeli army shows Muhammad Sinwar, brother of Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar, travelling in a car through a tunnel near the Erez crossing, close to the Israel-Gaza border, amid the ongoing conflict on December 17, 2023. (Photo: Reuters) The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed today that the body of senior Hamas leader Mohammed Sinwar has been found in a tunnel beneath the European Hospital in Khan Yunis, Gaza. He was killed in an Israeli airstrike on May 13. Sinwar, 49, was the younger brother of Yahya Sinwar, the mastermind behind the October 7 attack on Israel. Yahya was shot dead by IDF soldiers eight months ago. Both brothers were born—and killed—in the Khan Yunis area. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD Mohammed Sinwar, once nicknamed 'The Shadow' by Israeli intelligence for his ability to evade capture, took part in the 2011 deal that freed Yahya Sinwar in exchange for Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit. He avoided even his father's funeral to stay hidden, but the Shin Bet eventually tracked his movements and targeted him. A joint statement by the IDF and Shin Bet confirmed that Sinwar and Rafah Brigade Commander Mohammad Shabaneh were killed in an underground command center beneath the hospital. Items belonging to them, along with intelligence materials and other bodies, were also recovered. Footage released by the IDF showed a body being dragged from a tunnel under the hospital. Defense Minister Israel Katz praised the operation, calling Sinwar an 'arch-murderer' and warning remaining Hamas leaders that they are next. He specifically named Gaza-based commander Az al-Din al-Haddad and Qatar-based leader Khalil al-Hayya. The May 13 strike also killed Hamas commander Muhammad Shabana and senior figure Mahdi Kuwar. Hamas's October 7 attack killed at least 1,180 people and saw 252 hostages taken. Of the 55 hostages still in Gaza, 32 are believed to be dead.
