IPL 2025: RCB skipper Rajat Patidar recovering from finger injury
New Delhi [India] May 11 (ANI): Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) captain Rajat Patidar, is currently recovering from a finger injury, Patidar suffered the injury while fielding during RCB's home game against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on May 3, as per a report from ESPNcricinfo on Sunday.
He was recommended to use a splint to safeguard the finger and avoid training for a minimum of 10 days before evaluating the injury. IPL 2025 has not been temporarily suspended due to cross-border tensions between India and Pakistan.
Due to Patidar's injury, Jitesh Sharma was in line to captain RCB against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on Friday, but the BCCI announced a one-week suspension of the IPL on May 8.
Sharma expressed his gratitude for the chance to captain RCB, highlighting its significance for him and his family. He mentioned the challenge of deciding the right team combination, especially with Devdutt Padikkal and Rajat unavailable, emphasising the weight of responsibility in filling their roles.
'I was very grateful for the opportunity given to me. They were giving me an opportunity to captain RCB and it's a very big thing for me and my family. I was thinking of what the right combination would be because both Devdutt [Padikkal] and Rajat were not available, and it was a big responsibility to replace them,' Jitesh Sharma said on RCB Bold Diaries as quoted by ESPNcricinfo.
'And as per the position we were on the points table, we would have won this game. All of this was going on in my head and all the meetings with coaches and players in those two-three days, batting order, discussions with bowlers. I had good fun,' he added.
While announcing the postponing of remainder of tournament for a week, BCCI said that new schedule will be announced in due course.
'The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided to suspend the remainder of the ongoing IPL 2025 with immediate effect for one week. Further updates regarding the new schedule and venues of the tournament will be announced in due course after a comprehensive assessment of the situation in consultation with relevant authorities and stakeholders,' BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia had said in the statement.
'The decision was taken by the IPL Governing Council after due consultation with all key stakeholders following the representations from most of the franchisees, who conveyed the concern and sentiments of their players, and also the views of the broadcaster, sponsors and fans; while the BCCI reposes full faith in the strength and preparedness of our armed forces, the Board considered it prudent to act in the collective interest of all stakeholders,' he added.
Later in the day, the inaugural edition of the Neeraj Chopra Classic 2025, which was set to be held on May 24 at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium in Bengaluru, was postponed until further notice due to rising tensions between the two neighbouring countries. (ANI)

'You're not going to get rid of the tag. Is it deserving on these youngsters coming through? No, it's almost like they're carrying the burden of what happened in previous years, which is always going to be tough on them, but they're the ones in control of their futures at the moment,' he added. For Boucher, South Africa youngsters Ryan Rickelton and Tristan Stubbs are two youngsters who could be the key to their success in the pulsating contest that kicks off on Wednesday. 'Ryan Rickelton has been playing nicely for Mumbai Indians (MI) and he was actually on the tour that we went to England [in 2022] as well. He's actually played quite a few games in England as well, so he'll know the conditions,' Boucher said. 'And Tristan Stubbs has come back and played a lot of domestic cricket and basically forced his way into the Test side because of the runs that he's got. On paper, Australia will probably feel that they've got a better batting line-up than what we have, but have we got the attitude to go out there and in a one-off game, just leave it all out there? Absolutely,' he added. New Delhi [India], June 7 (ANI): The 21st edition of the Delhi International Open Grandmasters Chess Tournament was officially inaugurated in the national capital, marking a significant occasion in the Indian chess calendar. Delhi Minister Parvesh Verma praised India's up-and-coming chess players at the event and offered his best wishes to the young players. Minister Verma said at the inauguration, 'The first Grandmaster Delhi Chess Tournament has been inaugurated. I convey my best wishes to all the children. India is very proud of the achievements of all our children, whether it is our Gukesh (Dommaraju) or Vaishali (Rameshbabu).' He further praised the organisers' and the chess fraternity's efforts in nurturing young talent and bringing the game to such a prominent stage. 'Many congratulations to all, and I convey my best wishes to the Federation and the Association for organising such a good tournament here at such a good level,' he added. With a record prize pool of Rs 1.21 crore, the Delhi International Open Grandmasters chess tournament is all set for its 21st edition from June 7 to 14 at Tivoli Gardens, Chattarpur, New Delhi. A marquee calendar event on the FIDE World Championship Circuit, the tournament has played a pivotal role in shaping the rise of India's chess stars, including past winners Arjun Erigaisi and Aravindh Chithambaram, R Praggnanandhaa, and World Champion Gukesh Dommaraju, who earned his final GM norm here to become a Grandmaster. Organised under the aegis of the All India Chess Federation, the Delhi GM Open has grown into the largest classical-format chess tournament in Asia by participation. This year, the Delhi GM Open will host over 2,500 players from over 15 countries, including 20 Grandmasters, competing across three rating-based categories. The prize pool marks a 168 per cent increase from last year's edition. Category A has a Rs 51 lakh prize pool and is open to internationally rated players. Categories B and C, for players rated below 1900 and 1700, respectively, will offer Rs 35 lakh each. All matches will follow FIDE rules and the FIDE Swiss System format, with 10 rounds in every section. Category A games will follow a classical time control of 90 minutes plus a 30-second increment from move one, with the top three prizes set at Rs7,00,000, Rs6,00,000, and Rs5,00,000 respectively. The top ten finishers in this category will each receive Rs 1,00,000 or more, while special prizes of Rs 1,00,000 each will be awarded to the Best Female Player and Best Foreign Player. Category B and C games will follow a 60-minute-plus-30-second time limit and 30-minute-plus-30-second formats, respectively. Taiwan Athletics Open 2025: Jyothi Yarraji sprints to gold as India enjoy flurry of top spots
New Delhi [India], June 7 (ANI): Reigning Asian champion and Olympian Jyothi Yarraji continued her scorching form this season after she scripted a victory in the women's 100m hurdles as India bagged six gold medals on the opening day of the Taiwan Athletics Open 2025 in Chinese Taipei on Saturday. Jyothi sprinted to gold after clocking 12.99 seconds. Despite a scratchy start that forced her to drop in the second place, she managed to surge ahead in the last 20 metres and secured her spot at the top of the podium with a powerful finish. Jyothi had clocked 13.18s in the heats to earn a spot in the final and was the only athlete in the event to finish with a sub-13 timing in the final, according to Japan's Asuka Terada (13.04s) and Chisato Kiyoyama (13.10s) finished second and third, respectively, behind Jyothi. India's national record in the women's 100m hurdles also belongs to Jyothi. She clocked 12.78s to set the mark at the World University Games two years ago. Tejas Shirse, the national record holder in the men's 110m hurdles, also claimed gold in the event with a season-best time of 13.52s. Chinese Taipei's Yuan-Kai Hsieh and Chen Kuei-ru won silver and bronze with timings of 13.72s and 13.75s, respectively. India extended its dominance and won gold medals in the men's and women's 100m relays. Despite fumbling with the baton exchange, the quartet of Sudheeksha Vadluri, Abinaya Rajarajan, Sneha SS and Nithya Gandhe won the women's 100m relay with a meet record time of 44.07s. Sudheeksha V, who replaced Srabani Nanda, was the only new addition to the Indian women's relay team that won the Asian title last week. Vietnam finished second, and Asia Biomedical, a club, finished third with timings of 44.38s and 44.53s, respectively. The men's 100m relay saw the quartet of Gurindervir Singh, Animesh Kujur, Manikanta Hoblidhar, and Amlan Borgohain win the gold with a timing of 38.75s.
