Real Madrid talisman played through injury to lead UCL charge against Atletico
Real Madrid's win over Atletico Madrid in the UEFA Champions League was one of the team's most important results of the season, but it came at a serious price.
Carlo Ancelotti's men, after all, were forced to play 120 minutes to break through Los Rojiblancos' resistance on the night and eventually got their break only in the penalty shootout. Fatigue, needless to say, looms large.
Several players are battling for fitness ahead of today's clash against Villarreal with Ferland Mendy injured and the likes of Raul Asencio, Vinicius Jr, Jude Bellingham, Federico Valverde and Antonio Rudiger all on that list. Also joining them is a certain Kylian Mbappe.
As relayed by AS in a recent report, Mbappe played the derby despite not being at his 100% physically and the game has thus taken a toll on him.
The player, who rushed back from his injury for the Champions League night, was not even in a position to take a penalty and needed some exclusive time with a physiotherapist after full-time to ensure he could step up and deliver.
Heading into tonight's clash, Mbappe's availability is under a massive cloud of doubt and it is safe to say that the management will likely not risk him if he is facing even a remote chance of a relapse.
This comes as a massive blow for Carlo Ancelotti who may well be thrown into the deep end with several players unavailable, likely including Mbappe.
The Estadi de La Ceramica, where Los Blancos are set to play tonight, has not been an easy hunting ground for them in recent seasons as they have won just one game at the venue since 2017, even that in the Copa del Rey.
Mbappe's absence for such a big game, needless to say, would be a shame and the manager will hope the player feels fit enough to lead the attack tonight.

Liverpool braced for Andy Robertson transfer bid as Atletico Madrid consider move
Liverpool left-back Andy Robertson has emerged as a shock leading transfer target for Atletico Madrid. Robertson is expected to face a strong challenge for his starting role next season with the Reds closing on a deal to sign £45million-rated Milos Kerkez from Bournemouth. Advertisement And the Scotland international, who is approaching the final 12 months of his current contract at Anfield, is towards the top of Atletico's wanted list as the Spanish outfit look to strengthen their defensive resources this summer. Atletico have developed a recent habit of taking seasoned full-backs from the Premier League having previously signed both Kieran Trippier and Matt Doherty from Tottenham Hotspur. READ MORE: Liverpool transfer latest as Michael Edwards exit and Saudi Pro League links explained READ MORE: Florian Wirtz £116m transfer problem now unlikely as Liverpool trend set to continue Advertisement Liverpool have yet to receive an approach from Atletico but would face a difficult decision over Robertson's future should the interest be made formal, particularly if the player is receptive to the move. The 31-year-old admitted earlier this week he was uncertain over his plans despite talks having been held with Anfield officials. "We've had good discussions, me and the club, but what the future holds, I'm not sure," said Robertson. "I can't look too far ahead, I never have done that so I'm not going to start doing that now. I know the position I'm in, I know I've only got a year left. "The players that we're linked with are all younger players and they're all exciting players as well. So when you play for a big club like Liverpool, you expect challenges, you expect to have competition. I've always faced that and so has everyone in their own positions." Advertisement Robertson has been the undisputed first-choice Reds centre-back ever since breaking into the senior team several months after his arrival from Hull City in the summer of 2017, and has thus far totalled 342 appearances. He made 45 outings in all competitions this term and started 29 times in the Premier League as he claimed a second championship winners' medal with the Reds. Kerkez's expected imminent arrival is almost certain to prompt one of Liverpool's current senior left-backs to leave, with Kostas Tsimikas - who has been at the club for almost five years - attracting interest from clubs in England and abroad.

Arsenal defender sends cheeky transfer message to Real Madrid star – ‘Would like him to be here'
Arsenal defender sends cheeky transfer message to Real Madrid star – 'Would like him to be here' Gabriel Magalhaes has made no secret of his admiration for Brazil teammate Rodrygo, publicly expressing his desire to see the Real Madrid forward join him at Arsenal this summer. Speaking on the Podpah podcast, the Gunners centre-back described Rodrygo as a 'phenomenon' and admitted he would love to welcome the 24-year-old to the Emirates. Advertisement Rodrygo's future at Real Madrid has become a topic of growing speculation, particularly after the club's high-profile additions and the emergence of an attacking hierarchy centred around Kylian Mbappe, Vinicius Jr and Jude Bellingham. Despite playing a vital role during Madrid's recent Champions League-winning campaign, the Brazilian winger is believed to be feeling increasingly unsettled, uncertain about his importance in the evolving pecking order under new manager Xabi Alonso. Gabriel wants Rodrygo at Arsenal Amidst Arsenal's admiration, particularly with Mikel Arteta's backing, Gabriel's comments reflect growing excitement among among the Gunners' faithful at the mere possibility of Rodrygo joining Mikel Arteta's project. I've told people already, he's a phenomenon. If it was up to me, of course,' he added. Alonso to decided Rodrygo's future Rodrygo has travelled with the Real Madrid squad to the United States for the FIFA Club World Cup, and much now hinges on the conversations he will have with Alonso during and after the tournament. The new Madrid boss has previously called Rodrygo a 'spectacular' player and insists he remains central to his plans, but convincing the player himself may prove more complicated. Advertisement Arsenal, for their part, are in the market for a wide forward and are known admirers of Rodrygo's style. However, any potential deal would require a significant financial commitment, both in terms of a transfer fee and wages, especially with Madrid unlikely to entertain anything short of a premium bid.
