Two fallen officers honored in annual memorial ceremony
ST. LOUIS – On Saturday, two fallen officers will be honored for their ultimate sacrifice.
Independence Police Officer Cody Allen and St. Louis Police Officer David Lee will be remembered during the annual Missouri State Law Enforcement Memorial in Jefferson City.
Officer Allen was shot and killed while serving an eviction notice in February of last year.
Officer Lee was struck and killed while working a crash on I-70 in September.
The ceremony begins at 10 a.m. with remarks from Governor Mike Kehoe and Attorney General Andrew Bailey.

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) – An arrest report obtained by 8 News Now details what led up to a hit-and-run crash that killed a 33-year-old man in the northwest valley. Officers took 63-year-old Karen Cannon into custody Wednesday in connection with the case. She was released on a $150,000 bail a day later. Loved ones remember man killed in west Las Vegas valley hit-and-run crash 33-year-old Patrick Deloriea died on May 13 when a Tesla hit him and left the scene at the intersection of Vegas Drive and Rainbow Boulevard, according to police. 'He's going to be missed you know?' Deloriea's friend Robert Drysdale told 8 News Now after he died. 'I think everyone is pretty upset over this loss.' Police determined a Tesla Model Y registered to Cannon hit Deloriea going 66 miles per hour, causing him to fly approximately 155 feet into the air. Surveillance footage from a nearby gas station and debris at the scene helped detectives determine the car involved, according to documents. Cannon reportedly took the car to two different repair shops and paid cash, refusing to file an insurance claim, according to police. Documents said she claimed she hit an animal and something resembling a coyote, and claimed she didn't see anything in the road after the collision, though she felt a 'hard blow' to her car and felt it shake upon impact. A week after the crash, Cannon called her insurance company and said she did not know what she hit and wasn't sure what to do and things weren't 'as simple as she thought,' according to the arrest report. Once officers seized the car they weren't able to find any videos from 2025 saved in its software and a camera was removed from its front fender. Cannon now faces one count of reckless driving resulting in death, failure to stop at the scene of a crash, and destroying and concealing evidence. Long Grove bridge hit by moving truck, allegedly for the 67th time
LONG GROVE, Ill. (WGN) — Water is wet. The sky is blue. Someone hit the Long Grove Covered Bridge again. A WGN TV News viewer sent a small treasure trove of photos detailing the latest vehicle that was too tall to pass over Buffalo Creek. The viewer told WGN TV News this is allegedly the 67th time the bridge has been struck by a vehicle. Built 1906, it was initially named after Buffalo Creek, and didn't feature a wooden roof over the top of it. The wooden cover was added in 1972. The bridge, which measures 8-feet-6-inches tall, was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in June 2018, and was promptly plowed through two weeks later. Cover Story: The infamous Long Grove Covered Bridge It was restored, but 23 hours after the official reopening in August 2020, another driver in a chartered school bus not only hit it, but got stuck. The good news is, it wasn't completely obliterated like it was in 2018. With how frequent the bridge has been struck over the years, one would think there's a lack of signage around the well-battered crossing, but that's not the case. Signs are posted on, before and after crossing the bridge on Robert Parker Coffin Road, and they have done little to stop vehicles from leaving various dings and dents over the years, fines for which start at $700. MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Tyre Nichols' family is still calling for justice while celebrating what would have been his 32nd birthday on Thursday. Two years since his passing, his family said the pain of loss is still strong, but his mother was trying to set it aside. 'When I woke up that pain went away. I don't know if it was my son telling me, 'Mama, let's just celebrate the day,'' said RowVaughn Wells, Tyre Nichols' mother. Tadarrius Bean and Justin Smith were both found guilty of obstruction in the case, and they will appear in court on June 16. Demetrius Haley was found guilty on four counts in federal court, and Desmond Mills, who took a guilty plea deal, is set to appear for sentencing on June 17. City of Memphis disputes insurance claims in Tyre Nichols case Emmitt Martin, who also took a guilty plea deal, will stand in front of a judge on June 18. Community organizers and activists said it is past time for people to pay attention, especially as the City of Memphis is in budget talks. 'Meanwhile, library services have a proposed budget of $25 million, parks and services have a proposed budget of $28 million,' said Amber Sherman, community organizer. 'I don't understand how we will make every other department prove that they deserve the money they are getting.'
