13 strikeouts, zero walks, and complete dominance in the game - that's what the Tiger's star pitcher Tarik Skubal brought to the Tigers vs Guardians game, which helped the former have a clean win of 5-0.
This was Tarik's first MLB closed game, which will be remembered as one of the most memorable games by the Tigers fans. With the incredible 13 strikeouts, fastest strikeout itch, zero walks, and hardly any hits, Skubal was a complete beast on the field, which got him a standing ovation from the Comerica Park audience.
How did Tarik Skubal's first CG made history
When Tiger Skubal entered the field on Sunday in the 9th inning, he had no idea that in the next few pitches, he would be breaking records with his first MLB closed game.
Skubal's first CG performance made history as he ended the game within 94 pitches including 13 strikeouts, zero walks, and just 2 hits.
As per Sportsradar, Skubal is the only pitcher in the history of MLB who has managed to bring full shutout with less than 100 pitches, that included 13 or more strikeouts. Since pitch count records started back in 1988, there's no known pitcher who has achieved this feat yet.
On top of that, he delivered one of the fastest strikeout pitches of 102.6 mph, to Gabriel Arias, which ultimately ended the game.
This was by far the fastest strikeout pitch delivered by any pitcher since 1988, as pitch-tracking started in that year.
Tarik Skubal's reaction after creating history with record-breaking CG
The former AL Cy Young award holder was a little teary-eyed before the inning even started. This was Skubal's first time pitching in the ninth inning. When asked about what was going on in his mind before the innings, he said,
'Little teary-eyed out there, honestly, before the inning started. It was pretty cool. I just thought to myself, 12 year-old me wouldn't believe that was an opportunity to have the fan base support you the way it does and be in that moment. It was pretty special.'

Skubal won his first Cy Young award back in 2024, and looking at his current performance and stats, chances of him being a tough contender for the award is a possibility.

Shreyas Iyer 'can't be kept out of T20Is, Tests', 'officially' challenges Shubman Gill, Rohit Sharma for India captaincy
The scoreboard might show Shreyas Iyer as the losing captain of IPL 2025, but within Indian cricket's power corridors, his stock has never been higher. On the eve of the final between RCB and Punjab Kings, one of Indian cricket's influential decision-makers offered a striking endorsement of Iyer's future. 'Right now he just plays ODIs, but after this IPL we can't keep him out of T20 internationals and even Tests. Plus he also has now officially joined the white-ball captaincy race,' the official told Indian Express, suggesting that Iyer's impact this season has sparked a serious rethink within the national setup. It's been a turnaround few saw coming. Not long ago, Shreyas found himself without a central contract, out of the Test and T20I squads, and, most shockingly, released by Kolkata Knight Riders after leading them to the IPL title in 2024. The doubts over his fitness, form, and temperament had pushed him to the fringes. However, Iyer continued to perform big in domestic circuit for Mumbai, and even led the side in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. Then came Punjab Kings, a franchise with perennial underachievement but rich in untapped potential. Iyer embraced the challenge, and what followed was a masterclass in leadership. He found not only form with the bat but also forged a deep emotional connection with teammates and fans, who began calling him 'Sarpanch Sahab,' a nod to his calm but commanding presence. The moment that sealed his status came during the Eliminator against the Mumbai Indians. With the chase wobbling and Jasprit Bumrah breathing fire, Iyer unfurled a counter-assault of stunning composure. He dismantled Bumrah, cleared the ropes with ease, and held firm as wickets tumbled at the other end. Iyer eventually finished unbeaten on 87 off 41 deliveries, ensuring PBKS chased down a huge 204-run target with an over to spare. Though Punjab eventually fell short in the final, Iyer's aura only grew. His cold stare at Shashank Singh after a critical run-out showed he could demand more from his players. Iyer may not have lifted the trophy this year, but he's certainly forced Indian cricket to sit up and reconsider.

Virat Kohli 'Absolutely Gutted' After Stampede Kills 11 During RCB Victory Celebrations
Last Updated: RCB Parade Stampede News: Virat Kohli was part of the RCB's IPL victory celebrations when a stampede outside M Chinnaswamy Stadium resulted in the death of 11 people. RCB Parade Stampede News: The Bengaluru stampede that caused the death of 11 people outside M Chinnaswamy Stadium on Wednesday has resulted in an outpouring of grief with India cricketer Virat Kohli 'absolutely gutted". Thousands had gathered outside the cricket stadium to catch a glimpse of Royal Challengers Bengaluru cricketers who later arrived at the venue as part of their first ever IPL title celebrations. The chaos unfolded after a massive crowd gathered outside the stadium and at the Vidhana Soudha – nearly triple of what was initially estimated. As per a senior police officer, the incident happened because the public didn't pay heed o their advisories. 'People did not heed our advisories or the repeated public announcements asking them to disperse. They were determined to reach the venue no matter what," the official said on condition of anonymity to News18. Taking to social media, Kohli wrote, 'At a loss for words. Absolutely gutted" while resharing an official statement from his IPL franchise RCB. BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia expressed his condolences to the family of the deceased while slamming the organisers of the event. 'It is very unfortunate. This is a negative side of popularity. People are crazy for cricketers. The organisers should have planned it better. My deepest condolences to the family of the deceased. I wish early recovery of the injured," Saikia told news agency PTI. 'When one organises a victory celebration of this magnitude, proper precautions, safety and security measures need to be taken. There have been some lapses somewhere. After such a glorious ending to the IPL, this has been an anti-climax," he added. The RCB squad arrived in Bengaluru on Wednesday morning before heading to Vidhana Soudha where they were felicitated by Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah and Deputy CM D K Shivakumar. They then headed to the M Chinnaswamy Stadium to continue their victory celebrations where fans had gathered to witness a musical performance before the players including RCB captain Rajat Patidar and Kohli delivered speeches.
