Former Thunder Olivier Sarr back in NBA on Exhibit 10 deal with Raptors

USA Today4 hours ago
While the Oklahoma City Thunder mostly sat out the offseason, several former members of the NBA champion found a new home across the league. The latest is Olivier Sarr. He signed an Exhibit 10 deal with the Toronto Raptors.
Sarr spent three seasons on the Thunder from 2021-24. He sparingly played 46 games across those three seasons. He was signed to a standard deal, a two-way contract and a handful of 10-day deals during his time in OKC. The 26-year-old mostly played with the G League's OKC Blue.
Sarr helped the Blue capture the 2024 G League championship. He suffered a torn Achilles in the Blue's Game 3 win over the Maine Celtics to capture the trophy. That April 2024 knocked him out for the entire 2024-25 season as he rehabbed his injury.
Now, Sarr is back in the NBA. He hopes to have a strong enough training camp and preseason to be added to the Raptors' G League affiliate. From there, the seven-footer can spend the year with the Raptors 405 working toward a possible two-way deal.
Sarr's younger brother Alex was the No. 2 pick in the 2024 NBA draft. The Washington Wizards hope the 20-year-old can build off his rookie season with a strong sophomore campaign that legitimizes his spot as a franchise cornerstone.

Sixers big man Joel Embiid in attendance as Phillies take on Tigers

The NBA offseason calendar has flipped to August as now is the time for players to begin preparation for the upcoming season. Philadelphia 76ers star Joel Embiid is continuing to rehab as he works his way back from April knee surgery--his second in 14 months--but appears to be in good spirits. The Philadelphia Phillies are continuing their march to the postseason, and on Saturday, played host to the Detroit Tigers. The contest featured an excellent pitching matchup as Zack Wheeler took the mound for Philadelphia while Tarik Skubal was on the bump for Detroit. The two are legitimate contenders for the Cy Young award in their respective leagues. Embiid pulled up to Citizens Bank Park--as he does regularly--to take in the Phillies vs. Tigers matchup. The Sixers will be counting on Embiid to be ready to roll when training camp begins. After playing only 19 games due to the left knee limiting him, the big fella is taking his time and hopes to be ready for when the season begins in October. Lakers' Adou Thiero spotted working out at team practice facility

Los Angeles Lakers rookie Adou Thiero was pictured working out at the team practice facility on Friday in preparation for his upcoming rookie campaign in the NBA. Thiero averaged a career-high 15.1 points, 5.8 rebounds, 1.9 assists and 1.6 steals on 54.5% shooting from the field in 27 games as a junior last season at Arkansas. He was tied for the most points on the team (407), despite missing eight games due to a left knee hyperextension. The 36th pick has been around for much of the offseason after missing summer league as he continued to recover from his knee injury. He was also among those on hand to support Luka Dončić after the five-time All-Star signed a three-year, $165 million contract extension on Saturday. Thiero registered eight 20-point performances with the Razorbacks, including a season-high 26 points and 10 rebounds on Dec. 7 in a win over UTSA. He ranked second in the SEC in field-goal percentage and eighth in box plus-minus (plus-10.6). The 21-year-old Thiero reportedly agreed to sign a three-year, $5.95 million contract with the Lakers via the second-round pick exception. The first two years are guaranteed on the contract, which includes a team option in the last season. After missing summer league, Thiero is expected to be ready for the start of training camp next month. He is working to prepare himself to contribute to the team and is eager to get to work.

Celtics get positive update on Jayson Tatum's achilles rehab

Boston Celtics fans got an update on Jayson Tatum's rehab from a torn achilles earlier this week. Per Heavy's Steve Bulpett, Tatum was seen standing with Celtics assistant coach Amile Jefferson at Chris Paul's CP3 Elite camp in Las Vegas earlier this week. According to Bulpett, a scout at the event provided an update on Tatum's status, which could provide Celtics' fans with some optimism. 'He was moving really well,' Bulpett was told. 'There might have been a slight limp or something, but the surprising thing to me is that he didn't have a boot for any of it. 'I'm no doctor, but I've seen guys coming back from Achilles' tears, and he looked way ahead. I was kind of shocked to see how well he was moving.' Tatum suffered the injury during Game 4 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals against the New York Knicks. The Celtics would go on to lose the series in six games. While no official timetable has been given for his return, the expectation is that he will miss most of, if not all of next season. Tatum will be missed dearly for the Celtics. Last season, he averaged 26.8 points, 8.7 rebounds and 6.0 assists per game and was named to his sixth-career All-Star game, and fifth-career All-NBA team. The Celtics will now try to navigate next season without their superstar for most of it. Given this recent update, many Celtics fans will certainly feel better about the possibility of Tatum returning sooner than anticipated.
