CT man dies days after he was struck by vehicle while helping disabled tractor-trailer on I-95
A man has died days after he was struck by a hit-and-run driver while trying to help with a disabled tractor-trailer in the shoulder of Interstate 95 in Milford over the weekend.
The crash was reported Saturday shortly after 2 a.m. on the southbound side of the highway prior to the Exit 34 on-ramp, according to Connecticut State Police.
State police said 61-year-old Vinton Fitzgerald Dawson of Killingworth was trying to help with a tractor-trailer in the right shoulder of the highway when he was struck by a 2014 to 2017 white Hyundai Genesis. According to state police, the Genesis driver was headed south in the right lane when they entered the shoulder and struck Dawson before taking off from the scene. Troopers believe the vehicle likely has damage to its front passenger side.
Dawson was taken in an ambulance to Bridgeport Hospital for serious injuries. State police said he died on Monday.

Two firefighters among three people taken to hospital following I-91 crash
Three people — including two firefighters — were injured when a driver tried passing a vehicle on Interstate 91 in Hartford on Wednesday night and struck a fire truck that was blocking an exit ramp. The collision occurred shortly before 11:50 p.m. on I-91 South at the Exit 32A-B off-ramp where the driver of a 2016 Acura TLX was in the exit lane and tried passing a 2020 Mazda CX-5 in the right lane prior to a lane closure, according to Connecticut State Police. The Acura driver was going at a 'high rate of speed' when he struck the driver side of a fire truck and then the passenger side of the Mazda, state police said. According to the Hartford Fire Department, the fire truck had responded at a single-vehicle crash. State police said fire crews were blocking the ramp. Fire officials said two firefighters were taken to a hospital to be evaluated for minor injuries. They were conscious and alert and were released by the morning, according to fire officials. The driver of the Acura, a 22-year-old Davon Williams of Hartford, suffered minor injuries and was taken to Hartford Hospital, state police said. No other injuries were reported. Williams was found at fault for the crash and was issued a misdemeanor summons on charges of reckless driving, driving to endanger, reckless endangerment, failure to slow down or move over for a stopped emergency vehicle and endangerment of a highway worker, according to state police. He is free on a $1,500 non-surety bond and is scheduled to appear in Hartford Superior Court on July 3.

Man dies weeks after scooter crash in Stamford
A man who was seriously injured during a crash in Stamford last month while he was riding a stand-up scooter has died, police said. Christian Dinamarca, 46, was pronounced dead on Wednesday after spending the last few weeks in a hospital following a crash on May 29, according to Sgt. Jeffrey Booth of the Stamford Police Department. The collision was reported in the 100 block of Hope Street at 10:59 p.m. when officers responded to the area and found Dinamarca suffering from serious injuries that were initially not believed to be life-threatening, Booth previously said. He was taken in an ambulance to Stamford Hospital. According to Booth, Dinamarca's condition worsened over the past two weeks before he succumbed to his injuries on Wednesday evening. Investigators believe Dinamarca was struck while riding a stand-up scooter heading north on Hope Street. He was hit by a 2011 BMW that was also headed north and was being driven by a 17-year-old Stamford resident, Booth said. The collision caused Dinamarca to be thrown from his scooter and onto the road. He was wearing a helmet, Booth previously said. The scooter was heavily damaged and broken into several pieces. The driver of the BMW initially left the area and parked not far away, according to Booth. He walked back to the scene where he spoke to police about the crash. The crash remains under investigation. 'As I say goodbye to this incredible chapter with Soleil, I know Soleil's legacy will live on in everything I do and in every step that follows,' Cavanaugh said. Soleil will retire on July 1.
