2 people in critical condition after crash in Milford

MILFORD, Conn. (WTNH) — Two people were taken to Bridgeport Hospital with life-threatening injuries after a crash on Boston Post Road, officials said. The Milford Emergency Operation's Center received calls about the incident at about 6:03 p.m. and sent units to respond to the scene near 684 Boston Post Road. Officers who arrived on the scene first determined that two people were in critical condition and trapped inside their vehicle. The occupants were extricated from the car and transported to a hospital for further assistance. LifeStar responds to crash on Rt. 72 in Plainville A third person received minor injuries and was taken to a hospital for evaluation. A man has died days after he was struck by a hit-and-run driver while trying to help with a disabled tractor-trailer in the shoulder of Interstate 95 in Milford over the weekend. The crash was reported Saturday shortly after 2 a.m. on the southbound side of the highway prior to the Exit 34 on-ramp, according to Connecticut State Police. State police said 61-year-old Vinton Fitzgerald Dawson of Killingworth was trying to help with a tractor-trailer in the right shoulder of the highway when he was struck by a 2014 to 2017 white Hyundai Genesis. According to state police, the Genesis driver was headed south in the right lane when they entered the shoulder and struck Dawson before taking off from the scene. Troopers believe the vehicle likely has damage to its front passenger side. Dawson was taken in an ambulance to Bridgeport Hospital for serious injuries. State police said he died on Monday. The crash remains under investigation by the state police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Squad (C.A.R.S.). Police identify CT man killed in hit-and-run crash in Bridgeport

A man is dead after the vehicle he was driving was struck during a hit-and-run crash in Bridgeport over the weekend. A police officer patrolling the city spotted the crash at the intersection of Barnum Avenue and Harriet Street where a man identified as 53-year-old Andrew Scarlett of Bridgeport, was suffering from serious injuries, according to Tiadora Josef, director of public information and emergency management for the City of Bridgeport. Scarlett was rushed in an ambulance to Bridgeport Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries, Josef said. According to Josef, the Bridgeport Serious Crash Investigation Team responded to investigate. A preliminary investigation found that Scarlett was driving a 2000 Saturn SC2 west on Barnum Avenue and was struck while going through the intersection at Harriet Street. The vehicle that struck the Saturn was identified as a 2013 Hyundai Sonata with North Carolina license plates HCZ1398, Josef said. Multiple people in the Sonata got out and fled the area after the collision, according to Josef. The crash remains under investigation. Anyone with information has been asked to contact Officer A.
