AN ICONIC family hotel has had a massive £5m makeover.
Now bosses say the big budget transformation will really put the destination 'on the map' for food and drink in Scotland.

And guests can now discover a hidden speakeasy behind a bookcase as part of the major revamp.
Crieff Hydro has completed its bumper dining refurb project, which sees the creation of six new bars and restaurants and refreshed menus for its existing eating spots.
New venues include EAST, an Asian small plates concept, The Ballroom Bar, an elegant day-to-night bar, and The Winter Garden, an airy Victorian heritage space which has been modernised and offers all-day dining.
A new panoramic brunch and afternoon tea destination with views over Strathearn Valley, Loggia has also been introduced.
Menus across all the new restaurants focus on the very best of Scottish produce, with Crieff Hydro's team of chefs working with the long-standing suppliers to bring as much local and regional food to the heart of the menus.
The Ballroom Bar has an impressive oak stained, glass and metal work gantry while a bookcase wall has a hidden door leading to an adults-only speakeasy bar - a completely new concept for the hotel.
And inspiration from some of the new venue designs came from the Crieff Hydro archives, with curios dotted around the new spaces, including historical documents, such as one penny payment stamps, wax seals and old share certificates.
Richard and Charlie Leckie - the sixth generation of the family to be involved at Crieff Hydro - worked alongside Fiona Leckie, the longstanding Head of Interiors, to complete the massive project.
Stephen Leckie, CEO Crieff Hydro Family of Hotels, said: "This is our single biggest project in decades and opens another significant chapter in Crieff Hydro's 157-year history.
"For us, investment large and small is always about creating something better for our guests and for our team here. This is no exception, but the scale of the transformation I believe will really put us on the map for food and drink in Scotland.

"We're incredibly excited to share these new spaces with our loyal guests and those discovering Crieff Hydro for the first time and we're confident that the variety and style of the new venues will broaden our appeal and create even more memorable experiences for guests staying or dining with us.
"It's fitting that as we look to fulfil the needs of a new generation of Crieff Hydro customers, that this project has been driven by the next generation of my own family.
"We know that our guests are looking for unique experiences, not just any standard hotel restaurant and bar. As an independent business we have more freedom and flexibility to create something really unique.'
Meanwhile, Charlie Leckie, Associate Director Crieff Hydro Family of Hotels, said refurbishing the restaurants and bars was a chance to bring the hotel right up to date.
He added: "Like many of our guests, we enjoy the variety of interesting places to eat and drink around Scotland or further afield. So, we wanted to bring some of the best of that to Crieff Hydro.
"We really believe that a wide choice of food and drink is such an important part of a guest's experience and shouldn't just be 'ok' – it needs to be right up there with what people expect of their favourite West End eateries whether that's in Edinburgh, Glasgow or even London.
"So, we've tried to take the best of all that but deliver it in a way that is uniquely Crieff Hydro and fits in with all the history and tradition we're both so proud of.'

Saudi non-oil private sector adds jobs despite easing output growth
Aug 5 (Reuters) - Saudi Arabia's non-oil private sector expanded robustly in July, albeit at a slower pace than the previous month, as job creation surged in response to strong domestic demand, the Riyad Bank Purchasing Managers Index report showed on Tuesday. The headline PMI reading fell to 56.3 in July from 57.2 in June, remaining well above the 50.0 threshold that indicates growth in activity. 'Saudi Arabia's non-oil economy remained on a solid growth track in July, supported by higher output, new business, and continued job creation," said Naif Al-Ghaith, Chief Economist at Riyad Bank. Firms recruited staff to manage higher workloads and new orders. The survey noted another historically steep rise in employment, following June's record growth in job numbers over the past 14 years. Output growth eased to its lowest rate since January 2022, as firms reported challenges such as higher competition and lower customer footfall. Additionally, new export orders fell for the first time in nine months, highlighting difficulties in gaining foreign clients. Cost pressures softened slightly, with input price inflation slowing from the second-quarter average. However, labour costs continued to rise steeply as companies offered bonuses to retain workers. Despite the slowdown, businesses remain optimistic about future activity, supported by resilient market conditions and strong client demand. However, overall optimism was the lowest recorded since July 2024.

Skyrora win first space launch licence
The Scottish company Skyrora has announced big news today as they are awarded the first vertical space launch licence in the UK. The permission from the UK Civil Aviation Authority allows the company which has an office on Princes Street to launch from the SaxaVord Spaceport up to 16 times. The approval process examined key matters such as safety and environmental mitigations, and the ongoing launches will be subject to monitoring by the space regulator. The company must also share its data with the UK Government as part of the licensing arrangement. Rob Bishton, CEO of the UK Civil Aviation Authority, said: 'Granting a home-grown company, Skyrora its launch licence is a major milestone for our space sector and our nation. 'Our work as the UK's space regulator is enabling the burgeoning launch industry to safely grow, bringing new jobs and investment with it.' Volodymyr Levykin, CEO Skyrora said: 'Becoming the first UK company to receive its vertical launch operator licence is a testament to the hard work and dedication of everyone at Skyrora. It is essential that the UK has sovereign launch capabilities. 'Skyrora is proud to be leading efforts that enable launch activity from the UK and we look forward to achieving a reliable commercial launch programme that benefits us all.' Scottish Secretary Ian Murray, said: 'This launch licence isn't just one giant leap for Skyrora – it's a massive boost to the whole of Scotland and the wider UK's space sector. Becoming the first British company to manufacture and send a rocket into space from the UK will be a hugely significant moment. 'It's an exciting time for the Scottish space sector – an important industry which is playing a vital role in our Plan for Change, helping economic growth and employing thousands of people in good quality jobs across the country. Egypt's non-oil sector shows signs of stability as PMI nears growth threshold
Aug 5 (Reuters) - Egypt's non-oil private sector showed signs of stabilisation in July, with employment rising for the first time in nine months and a softer decline in output and new orders, according to the latest S&P Global Egypt PMI report. The headline PMI rose to 49.5 in July from 48.8 in June, remaining below the 50.0 threshold that separates growth from contraction. However, the index reached its joint-highest level in five months, suggesting only a marginal decline in business conditions. "Businesses ... had the confidence to hire new staff, leading to an increase in employment for the first time in nine months, if only a fractional one," said David Owen, Senior Economist at S&P Global Market Intelligence. Employment rose as firms responded to signs of stabilising demand and rising backlogs of work. Output and new orders continued to fall, albeit at a softer rate than in June, with some firms noting increased activity amid tentative signs of recovering sales. The wholesale and retail sector remained the largest drag on demand and activity. Input prices rose at a quicker pace, driven by higher costs for items such as cement and fuel, yet remained below the long-run trend. Selling charges increased for the third consecutive month, although the rate of inflation was modest. Despite ongoing challenges, optimism about future activity improved slightly from June's record low, with firms expressing hopes for slower inflation and reduced regional conflict. However, overall confidence remained historically subdued.
