According to the Bedfordview SAPS, the incident occurred shortly after 16:00 when the victim, who was seated in a white Toyota Quantum, was approached by three unidentified gunmen.
The suspects allegedly opened fire with pistols before fleeing the scene in a black Mercedes-Benz.
Emergency services responded, but the man was declared dead on the scene. Police confirmed that 21 cartridges were recovered.

A case of murder has been opened, and no arrests have been made at this stage. The motive for the shooting remains unknown, and investigations are ongoing.

Ten police officers who appeared before the Germiston magistrate's court on Tuesday and Wednesday on charges of theft were each granted bail of R1,500 after an unopposed bail application. 'The case stems from a complaint laid by a shop owner in Edenvale, who alleges that during a raid on his business premises on June 4, the officers seized R35,000 in cash, cigarettes worth R150,000 and boxes of Panado tablets,' National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson Phindi Mjonondwane said. She said the officers, six from Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department (EMPD) and four from the SA Police Service, were part of a joint law enforcement operation aimed at monitoring compliance at shops in the area. 'According to the complainant, he was not present during the raid but was later informed by his cashier that the police had confiscated the items. The seized goods were allegedly placed in several refuse bags to be submitted as exhibits.' However, the complainant claims that upon his arrival at the police station, only one refuse bag had been registered. The cash was neither returned nor recorded in the SAP13 register, the official register used for documenting exhibits seized during criminal investigations. The matter was postponed until September 8 for further investigation.

Nkosikhona Madlala from Nanda is currently on the stand and telling the court what happened to him and his friends, Njabulo Dlamini, Sanele Merase, Mthobisi Ntuli, Linda Khawula, and Sandile Sambo on July 12, 2021, when they went to Tees Tavern in Phoenix to buy cocaine. Moreover, he said they ran away in different directions when the driver of the Ranger fired a gunshot when they refused to sit down. However, as they were being chased, he said he found himself back where he had left the taxi, together with Sambo. Madlala said Naidoo was among the people in the crowd who were telling them to get out of the taxi. He added that Naidoo beat him up with a sjambok. He said Tyreece was carrying a golf club. 'He was using a golf stick to beat me all over my body. He even kicked me,' Madlala explained. Additionally, Madlala said Timothy was carrying a hammer. He said that when he was lying on the ground after refusing to get inside the burning taxi, he saw that Sambo was not moving; he said it looked like he had fainted.

All were arrested on 4 August at Edenvale Police Station on allegations of theft and corruption. The charges stem from a 4 June multi-agency law enforcement raid on a shop in Edenvale, during which the officers allegedly seized R35 000 in cash, cigarettes, and three packs of headache tablets without properly recording the items.
