SHG members in Virudhunagar district urged to renew their insurance policies

Virudhunagar Collector V.P. Jeyaseelan has appealed to all registered women's self-help group members and their family members in the district to renew their insurance policies by May 2025 and avail themselves of benefits. The insurance policies were aimed to provide financial security for SHG members, who are often vulnerable to unexpected events such as accidents, disabilities, and deaths. The Collector emphasised the importance of enrolling in insurance schemes offered by the Union and State governments, especially under the Tamil Nadu State Rural Livelihoods Mission (TNSRLM). Many poor and vulnerable families in both rural and urban areas of Virudhunagar face permanent income loss when an earning member suffers injury, disability, or death. Insurance plays a crucial role in helping such families recover and sustain their livelihood. All SHG members have been advised to enroll in or renew schemes such as Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana (PMSBY), Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana (PMJJBY), Chief Minister's Comprehensive Health Insurance Scheme (CMCHIS), Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PMJAY), and Atal Pension Yojana (APY). Mr. Jeyaseelan reiterated that dissemination of information on social security and insurance schemes is crucial to safeguarding the economic stability of SHG households.
