PUTRAJAYA - Singer and actor Naim Daniel was brought before the Sessions Court here today in connection with a sexual assault case involving an underaged teenage girl.
The 28-year-old arrived at the court at about 8.34am accompanied by his mother and lawyer.
"Assalamualaikum," he said as he walked through the courthouse lobby, greeting members of the media.

Last week, Selangor police chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan confirmed that the Selangor Deputy Public Prosecutor's Office had issued instructions to charge a celebrity.
"The suspect is expected to be charged under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017 for committing physical sexual assault against the victim," Hussein said.

'Therefore, MOTAC is committed to enhancing the enforcement of Act 482 to ensure that only legitimate tour operators are allowed to operate,' read the statement. The statement was issued in response to a case involving a tour company that was fined RM30,000 by the Sessions Court here today for operating a tour business without a valid licence. Judge Irwan Suainbon (rpt: Irwan Suainbon) meted out the fine, in default 12 months in jail, after a representative of the company, Renewage Group Sdn. Bhd, pleaded guilty to the charge, framed under Section 5(2) of the Tourism Industry Act 1992 (Act 482). The ministry hoped that the case would serve as a reminder to all operators in the tourism industry to be more responsible and ethical in conducting business activities. It said that the offence under Act 482 is a serious criminal offence and that it will take appropriate action against any person who violates the law.

Kota Kinabalu: Two men were charged separately with raping their own relatives in Penampang and Tuaran, last year. Both the men who appeared separately before Sessions Court Judge Amir Shah Amir Hassan, pleaded not guilty to the charges against them. Advertisement In the first case, the 34-year-old man is accused of raping his 14 years and eight-month-old cousin at a house in a village in Penampang in July 2024. The man was charged under Section 376(1) of the Penal Code which provides for a jail term of up to 20 years and whipping, on conviction. The court set July 16 for mention and the man was released on bail of RM6,000 in two local sureties with permanent address and job. Additional conditions were imposed on the man, namely to report to Penampang police station on the first day of every month until the disposal of his case, to surrender his passport, if any, to the court and not to disturb or contact any of the prosecution witnesses especially the alleged victim. Deputy Public Prosecutor (DPP) Bryan Francis appeared for the prosecution while the man was not represented. In the second case, the 24-year-old man allegedly raped his 16-year-old niece at 11pm in June 2024 at a house in a village in Tuaran. He was charged under Section 376(3) of the Penal Code which carries a jail term of between eight and 30 years and whipping of at least 10 strokes, on conviction. His case would be mentioned back on July 17 and succeeded to obtain bail of RM6,000 in two local sureties as well as to report to the nearest police station once a month.
