El-Sisi reviews national energy strategy, renewable energy integration - Society
President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi on Tuesday reviewed plans to integrate renewable sources and battery storage as part of the country's national energy strategy.

He also reviewed efforts to enhance energy efficiency and quality, reduce fuel consumption, and promote the economic operation of power plants.
This came during a meeting in New Alamein with Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly and Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy Mahmoud Esmat.
President El-Sisi also reviewed ongoing efforts to strengthen the national electricity grid through regional interconnection projects, enhance transmission networks, and improve distribution networks to minimise technical losses.
Minister Esmat presented an overview of the ministry's initiatives to improve service quality, according to a presidential statement.
These include close coordination with the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources to meet fuel and gas demands for power plants, regular monitoring of maintenance and operational programs, and crackdowns on electricity theft.
Esmat also noted that around 2,000 megawatts of new renewable energy capacity is being added with investments estimated at $2.3 billion.
Additionally, the meeting discussed efforts to localize the manufacturing of key components for electricity and renewable energy, including partnerships with major global companies specialised in battery storage systems and wind turbine technology.
The minister reviewed progress in enhancing the national grid's readiness to accommodate increased renewable capacity.
He noted that currently installed renewable sources—including wind, solar, and hydropower—have reached a total capacity of 8,031 megawatts.
In line with Egypt's Integrated and Sustainable Energy Strategy, the meeting also presented projections for renewable energy capacities by 2030 and outlined the expected solar and wind additions to the national grid by June 2028.
Discussions also covered measures to improve power generation efficiency and fuel savings achieved through changes in plant operation strategies.
The president received updates on key strategic projects, including the Dabaa Nuclear Power Plant, the Egypt–Saudi Arabia electrical interconnection project (3,000 megawatts, a $1.8 billion investment), and the Egypt–Greece interconnection initiative.
President El-Sisi emphasised the importance of ramping up efforts to attract investment into the renewable energy sector and securing a stable and sustainable supply of electricity for the national grid and industrial and service sectors.
During the meeting, El-Sisi also directed the acceleration of ongoing projects focused on improving the energy system's efficiency and enhancing electricity services across all governorates.
The president underscored the need to continuously modernise generation plants, transmission and distribution infrastructure, and control centres, while also maximising the use of renewable energy resources.
El-Sisi further emphasised the strategic importance of localising industries linked to renewable energy, reinforcing Egypt's energy security and economic development.

Egypt's Al-Sisi presses Iran on Qatar attack, welcomes ceasefire in call with Pezeshkian
Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi condemned Iran's recent missile attack on Qatar and welcomed the ceasefire agreement between Iran and Israel during a telephone call on Wednesday with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, the Egyptian presidency said. In a statement, the presidency said Al-Sisi expressed 'Egypt's categorical rejection' of the attack and affirmed his country's condemnation of any act violating the sovereignty of nations, 'particularly that of brotherly Arab and Islamic countries.' The Egyptian leader also welcomed the announcement of the ceasefire, stressing the importance of consolidating and adhering to the agreement. The statement noted this was crucial, given the recent regional escalation that had 'nearly plunged the region into widespread chaos and violence.' The call also covered Egypt's diplomatic outreach to contain the crisis. According to the Egyptian Presidency spokesperson, Mohamed El Shennawy, the leaders reviewed the 'intensive efforts and communications Egypt has undertaken in recent days with various concerned parties, most notably the United States, to contain the escalation and restore calm and stability.' The statement reiterated Egypt's commitment to continue exerting all necessary efforts to solidify the ceasefire agreement. The two presidents agreed that the current 'delicate and sensitive' phase requires the pursuit of comprehensive political solutions and approaches that consider the multiple dimensions of regional security. They also stressed the importance of resuming negotiations on the nuclear programme between Washington and Tehran. The leaders emphasised the need to address concerns related to nuclear non-proliferation and to advance efforts toward establishing a Middle East zone free of weapons of mass destruction, the statement said. Egypt will exert all efforts to sustain Israel–Iran ceasefire: El-Sisi to Iranian counterpart - Foreign Affairs
Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi pledged to continue efforts to uphold the ceasefire between Israel and Iran during a phone call with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on Wednesday, according to a presidential statement. El-Sisi welcomed the ceasefire, announced by US President Donald Trump early Tuesday, marking what Trump called the end of 'the 12-day war.' He stressed the need to preserve the ceasefire amid a dangerous regional escalation that had pushed the Middle East to the brink of wider conflict. El-Sisi also condemned Iran's recent missile strike on Qatar, describing it as a violation of state sovereignty and reaffirming Egypt's rejection of attacks on fellow Arab and Islamic nations. On Monday, Iran launched missiles at Al-Udeid Air Base in Qatar in retaliation for US airstrikes on three Iranian nuclear facilities the previous day. Those US strikes followed Israel's initial attacks on Iran, which triggered the conflict on 13 June. The call reviewed Egypt's diplomatic efforts to de-escalate tensions, particularly with the US. Both presidents emphasized the urgency of resuming nuclear negotiations between Tehran and Washington. They reiterated support for a weapons-of-mass-destruction-free zone in the Middle East. El-Sisi and Pezeshkian agreed that the region needs comprehensive political solutions for its complex security dynamics. Pezeshkian thanked El-Sisi for Egypt's stabilizing role and efforts to prevent further bloodshed. Ceasefire faces early violations The truce has already come under strain, with breaches by both sides within hours of its announcement. On Tuesday, Iran launched ballistic missiles at the Israeli city of Beersheba, killing at least five people and injuring 20. Israel responded with airstrikes on northern Iran, including residential areas in Gilan province. On Wednesday, Iran executed three men—two Iranians and one Iraqi—accused of spying for Israel and smuggling assassination equipment. According to IRNA, six people have now been executed for espionage since 16 June. The conflict has so far killed at least 28 people and injured over 1,000 in Israel.
