Subway rolls out big menu change adding much-loved British dish to 170 new sites

SUBWAY fans are in for a treat – the sandwich chain is keeping its jacket potato trial on the menu for longer than expected.
The new Spudway meal, which launched back in February, has proved so popular it's now being extended until September 2025.

The dish – Subway's take on the British classic baked potato – has been on trial at 170 restaurants across the UK and was originally due to wrap up by mid-April.
But with booming sales and more hungry customers through the doors, the chain has decided to give the fluffy fan-favourite a longer run.
The Spudway lets diners build their own meal with toppings like:
Cheese & Beans
Tuna Mayo & Cheese
Taco Beef & Cheese
You can also pick from any classic Subway fillings, including Chicken Tikka, Steak & Cheese, and even Veggie Delite.

Each Spudway can be bought solo or as part of a meal deal – with a drink and cookie or crisps included.
Prices start at £4.29, but this varies on location, so be sure to check out your closest branch for more accurate pricing.
The move comes after Subway saw the potato range boost sales and footfall in its trial stores.
Cathy Goodwin, Subway's Interim Director of Innovation & Culinary, said: 'Spudway has been a huge success – it's a fun twist on a comfort food Brits already love, and guests clearly can't get enough.'

Subway franchisees also gave the dish the thumbs up.

Matt King, who runs multiple branches in Lincoln, said:'The response has been incredible. Our regulars are loving the extra choice – and we're seeing new faces too. It's been a win all round.'
The menu shake-up followed the launch of its hot cross bun toasties which it released in March for Easter.
The spiced sweet bread, which cost £1.79 was available to buy at all Subway stores across the UK, until April.

Fans can check if a Spudway is available at their local by heading to subway.com.
If it keeps sizzling through summer, a nationwide rollout could be on the cards before the end of the year.

Families are racing to B&Q to snap up a £29 buy that's ideal for stress-free caravan holidays & beach days out

And this is not the only bargain find B&Q shoppers have been loving... WHEELY FUN Families are racing to B&Q to snap up a £29 buy that's ideal for stress-free caravan holidays & beach days out THRIFTY families are legging it to the nearest B&Q to bag a £29 buy for stress-free caravan holidays. The glorious summer season has finally arrived, which means sunny beach holidays or staying in a caravan for lots of family fun. 3 Summer has well and truly arrived and there's a B&Q bargain that will make this season a breeze Credit: Getty 3 Thrifty fans of the mega retailer have been loving this foldable trolley Credit: Facebook 3 It can carry a maximum of 80kg - or 12.5 stone Credit: Facebook Now cash-savvy shoppers have spotted a bargain find that will make caravan stays and beach days a breeze - and it's under £30. According to one person, Cheryl Louise, the mega discount retailer B&Q is selling a foldable trolley for just £29. The trolley, which weighs just a little over a stone, is perfect for storing all of your beach days essentials, towels, snacks, water - and more. Some thrifty customers have also stated that the foldable trolley is sturdy enough to carry their little ones around - of a maximum of 12.5 stone weight limit. The affordable B&Q bargain boasts an impressive 120l capacity, a strong steel frame, as well as anti-skid tyres. What's more, it can also be folded back together in just three seconds faff-free. So whether you're off to the beach, a camping site, want to organise a picnic or plan the ultimate caravan holiday for your family this summer, this B&Q bargain is sure to be a life-saver. Sharing the epic find on the popular Extreme Couponing and Bargains UK group, Cheryl wrote: ''£29 from B&Q! Will do us nicely for beach trips!'' 'We were gifted one and it's great' The post has clearly impressed many, as it's already racked up close to 215 likes in less than 24 hours. More than 300 social media users flooded to comments where they tagged their friends and family, with many raving about the summer must-have. Scotland's number one secret beach revealed One person said: ''We could do with this for caravan days at the beach.'' A mum chimed in: ''Thank you for sharing! This will be perfect for Disneyland Paris for when my two get tired and it's the cheapest I've ever seen them!'' A third only had rave reviews to share, writing: ''We was gifted one today and it's great!'' Why caravan holidays are so underrated CARAVAN park holidays are a British staple. And with the cost of living crisis wreaking havoc on Britain's purses, more of us are turning to them for an affordable break. Josie O'Brien, Senior Digital Writer on Fabulous, weighs in on why she thinks caravan holidays are seriously underrated... WHEN I was a child, my mum used to collect the £9.50 holiday vouchers in The Sun. She'd use them to book a couple of nights away at a caravan park during the school holidays. As an adult, I fully appreciate the convenience of a humble caravan holiday. No faffing about with passports, no luggage limits and no bog-standard hotel breakfast of stale toast and grey eggs. I still love caravan holidays as an adult. In a world of doing everything for the 'gram, a caravan park brings you back to basics. There's no obligation to get dressed up, no stress to fit a million picturesque excursions in one week and I don't find myself flustered in tourist hot spots like abroad. I love going to coastal caravan parks and strolling along the beach parade. My highlight is always fresh mussels, ice-creams and classic pubs to grab an afternoon tipple in. And then, of course, there's the cost. Staying in a caravan is definitely way cheaper than my international trips. With no expensive hotel bills and the ability to cook my own meals, I'm spending hundreds less than I would abroad. I've had some of my best and most relaxing holidays in caravans. Maybe I'll buy my own one day. A fellow shopper commented: ''We have one, we used for the beach, and do our big shop in it.'' ''What a cracking price,'' someone else couldn't believe the offer. More B&Q bargains to look for If you've decided to race to the local B&Q this week, there are also plenty of other buys to look for, such as this incredible £5 plant that will keep flowering until the first frost. Homeowners have also been loving a privacy fence that's easy to install - and will keep wandering eyes out of your garden for good. The much-loved retailer is also selling a ''lovely'' fire pit with BBQ grill that costs just £25 and will be perfect for garden parties.

12 new submarines set to be built in UK, the Government has announced

12 new submarines set to be built in UK, the Government has announced Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer was due to say today: 'This plan will ensure Britain is secure at home and strong abroad, while delivering a defence dividend of well-paid jobs up and down the country' John Healey appeared on Sunday with Laura Kuenssberg yesterday (Image: PA ) The Prime Minister was set to announce today, June 2, that the UK would build up to 12 new nuclear-powered attack submarines and channel £15 billion into enhancing its warhead programme, as part of the Government's strategic defence review. The move will also support 30,000 jobs and is expected to create a further 40,000. ‌ The review includes 62 recommendations, with the Government expected to fully endorse significant investment in the UK's nuclear warhead programme during this parliament and the maintenance of the current arsenal. ‌ However, there has been some uncertainty regarding the Government's pledge to defence spending, following the Defence Secretary's inability to confirm whether the Treasury had secured funding to achieve a target of 3% of GDP by 2034. The construction of the new submarines, a key element of the Aukus alliance with the US and Australia, is expected to support 30,000 highly skilled jobs into the 2030s. It will also create 30,000 apprenticeships and 14,000 graduate positions over the coming decade, according to the Ministry of Defence. Defence Secretary John Healey said: "Our outstanding submariners patrol 24/7 to keep us and our allies safe, but we know that threats are increasing and we must act decisively to face down Russian aggression." Article continues below He added: "With new state-of-the-art submarines patrolling international waters and our own nuclear warhead programme on British shores, we are making Britain secure at home and strong abroad, while delivering on our Plan for Change with 30,000 highly skilled jobs across the country." The Government's commitment to maintaining the continuous-at-sea nuclear deterrent, constructing a new fleet of Dreadnought submarines and delivering all future upgrades, will be supported by a £15 billion investment into the warhead programme. From the late 2030s, a fleet of up to 12 SSN-Aukus conventionally armed, nuclear-powered submarines will take over from the seven astute class attack submarines that the UK is set to begin operating. ‌ In line with the strategic defence review, the Government will also commit to: Getting the armed forces to a stage where it would be ready to fight a war Boosting weapons and equipment stockpiles and making sure there is capacity to scale up production if needed in a crisis or war Buying up to 7,000 UK-built long-range weapons in a move due to support 800 defence jobs Setting up a new cyber command and investing £1 billion in digital capabilities More than £1.5 billion of additional funding to repair and renew armed forces housing. Sir Keir Starmer was due to say: "From the supply lines to the front lines, this Government is foursquare behind the men and women upholding our nation's freedom and security. ‌ "National security is the foundation of my Plan for Change, and this plan will ensure Britain is secure at home and strong abroad, while delivering a defence dividend of well-paid jobs up and down the country. "This strategic defence review will ensure the UK rises to the challenge and our armed forces have the equipment they need that keeps us safe at home while driving greater opportunity for our engineers, shipbuilders and technicians of the future." Both the Conservatives and the Lib Dems have expressed scepticism over Labour's commitment to financing what's proposed. ‌ After fulfilling its promise to elevate defence spending to 2.5% of GDP by April, 2027, the Government has voiced its "ambition to reach 3% in the next parliament". Mr Healey told The Times there was "no doubt" the UK would hit the 3% mark. For our free daily briefing on the biggest issues facing the nation, sign up to the Wales Matters newsletter here . However, during Sunday's broadcast of BBC's Sunday with Laura Kuenssberg, Mr Healey evaded the question regarding Treasury assurances for the proposed funding. ‌ He said he did not foresee an increase in armed forces personnel before the subsequent Parliamentary session amid ongoing recruitment and retention issues. Confronted with queries about when the Army might achieve its 73,000 personnel target, Mr Healey acknowledged: "We've narrowed the gap, but we've still got more people leaving than joining." His immediate priority is to reverse this trend before looking to expand numbers in the following Parliament. ‌ Shadow defence secretary James Cartlidge said: "All of Labour's Strategic Defence Review promises will be taken with a pinch of salt unless they can show there will actually be enough money to pay for them. "Whereas, far from guaranteeing the funding, John Healey has been hung out to dry by Rachel Reeves. As recently as Thursday, Healey promised that defence spending would definitely hit 3%, but today he's completely backtracked. "These submarines are not due to enter service till the late 2030s, so how can we have any confidence Labour will actually deliver them when they can't even sustain a policy on defence spending for more than 48 hours?". ‌ Lib Dem defence spokesperson Helen Maguire said: "This signals absolutely the right intent about the need to bolster the UK's defences in the face of Putin's imperialism and Trump's unreliability. "But this must come with a concrete commitment and detail on full funding. Labour's mere 'ambition' rather than commitment to reach 3% of GDP on defence leaves serious questions about whether the money for these projects will actually be forthcoming. "The 2034 timeline suggests a worrying lack of urgency from the Government. Unless Labour commits to holding cross-party talks on how to reach 3% much more rapidly than the mid-2030s, this announcement risks becoming a damp squib." Article continues below

Also called T5, the new terminal will welcome another 50million passengers when complete, adding to the current 90million at the airport. It will also allow flights to connect Singapore to 200 cities, up from the current 170 cities. The new terminal will be connected to Terminal 2, and will be the base of Singapore Airlines. Vertical gardens with indoor trees and plant areas will be throughout the terminal, which also has huge glass roofs and walls to let in as much daylight as possible. And a former military runway will become the airport's third runway used by commercial jets, and increased from 1.7miles to 2.5miles. Contactless touchpoints and automated check ins will speed up the process of travelling from landside to gate. The new designs have been created by British-based Heatherwick Studio, behind UK projects such at Coal Drops Yard and BT Tower in London. This is alongside American architecture firm KPF, behind Atlantis The Royal in Dubai and projects in Bermondsey and central London. Thomas Heatherwick, design director of Heatherwick Studio, said it will be full of "lush greenery and characterful districts that redefine what an airport can be". Inside the 'best airport in the world' following 3-year renovation - with 45ft 'waterfall,' indoor garden & robot bartender Work has already started on the 2,670 acre area, which will nearly double the current airport size. The new runway could open as soon as 2027, ahead of the full opening of the project. The terminal expects to fully open by the mid 2030s, costing around $10billion (£7.3bilion) according to Simple Flying. The last new opening at Changi Airport was the entertainment and shopping district the Jewel, back in 2019. 6 The new terminal will welcome another 50million passengers Credit: KPF/ Heatherwick Studio/Changi Airport Group 6 T5 is expected to cost more than £7billion Credit: KPF/ Heatherwick Studio/Changi Airport Group And a new passport-free system is being rolled out at the airport's immigration, with biometric checks instead. It's not the only major airport expansion taking place right now. Dubai is opening the new Al Maktoum International Airport by 2031, which will handle up to 260million passengers a year. This will replace the current Dubai International Airport - which welcomes 92million passengers - which will close when the new airport is completed.
