PGA raids Batu Gajah factory, seizes RM10 mln in illegal aluminium
The raid, conducted yesterday evening, involved multiple enforcement agencies.
PGA Northern Brigade Deputy Commander ACP Shamsul Baharin Aman confirmed the operation was a joint effort between the 3rd Battalion PGA Intelligence Unit, Northern Brigade Headquarters, and the 1st Battalion PGA, supported by the Perak Department of Environment (DOE) and Batu Gajah District Council.
Authorities found the factory operating without a valid licence under the Environmental Quality Act 1974.
'The premises contained a significant amount of aluminium, along with processing machinery and a lorry engine,' Shamsul Baharin said. A 37-year-old factory manager was detained for questioning.
The total seizure, including equipment, was estimated at RM11,812,280. Investigations revealed the facility had been operational since 2023, employing 10 workers to process and export metal materials.
Perak DOE director Datuk Dr Mohammad Ezanni Mat Salleh confirmed the seized aluminium falls under scheduled waste code SW 422, which prohibits unlicensed handling of metal-solvent mixtures. - Bernama

Cops claim trial allegedly extorting foreigners for RM10,000
BUKIT MERTAJAM: Three policemen claimed trial at the Magistrate's Court here for allegedly extorting RM10,000 from two Thai nationals last year. Koperal Mohd Shukri Amran, 35; Koperal Mohammad Faizal Mirdukhim @ Mustapa, 43; and Koperal Muhammad Arifshah Zulkefli, 23, were jointly charged on Friday (Aug 1) with deliberately extorting Anotai Saentawe and Suwit Sake by instilling fear that harm would befall them, thereby inducing them to hand over RM10,000. The offence was allegedly committed at a petrol station in Juru (southbound) along the North-South Expressway at 1.30am on Sept 26, 2024. The accused, who were attached to the Central Seberang Perai police headquarters, were charged under Section 385 of the Penal Code, read together with Section 34 of the same Code. The charge carries a maximum penalty of seven years' imprisonment, a fine, caning, or any two of the punishments, upon conviction. Deputy Public Prosecutor Nor Shakila Dahari requested bail of RM10,000 with one surety for each of the accused. However, counsel for the accused appealed for lower bail, citing their responsibilities in supporting their families. Magistrate Nurul Rasyidah Mohd Akit granted bail of RM4,000 with one surety each and set Sept 12 for mention. Meanwhile, another policeman from the same police headquarters was charged separately with abetting the alleged extortion. Koperal Muhammad Nizar Mat Axid, 40, pleaded not guilty when the charge was read out before magistrate Nurul Rasyidah in the same court on Friday. He was charged with abetting Mohd Shukri, Mohammad Faizal, and Muhammad Arifshah in intentionally committing extortion against the same two Thai nationals. The offence was allegedly committed at a rented house at No. 32, Jalan Setia 2, Taman Setia, at 2.30am on the same day. The charge was framed under Section 109 of the Penal Code, read together with Section 385, which also provides for a maximum sentence of seven years' imprisonment, a fine, caning, or any two of the punishments upon conviction. The court set bail at RM4,000 with one surety and fixed Sept 12 for mention.

Mother of two charged with criminal breach of trust

Kota Kinabalu: A 25-year-old woman was charged with committing criminal breach of trust amounting to RM17,704. Aliexandra Audrey Jimmy Joe pleaded not guilty before Sessions Court Judge Amir Shah Amir Hassan, to the charge against her on Thursday. She is accused of breaching the trust given to her as a worker of Syarikat KKRMC Trading Sdn Bhd which entrusted her with the sales collections belonged to the company by making the money for her own use. The offence allegedly took place between March 14, 2024 and Apr 30, 2024 at the company's premises in Kg Andus, Papar. Aliexandra was charged under Section 408 of the Penal Code which provides for a jail term of between one and 14 years, and whipping, and liable to a fine, on conviction. The court set Sept 3 this year for pre-trial case management and released Aliexandra on bail of RM4,000 in two local sureties. The court also imposed several additional conditions on Aliexandra such as to report to Sabindo police station once a mont, to surrender her passport, if any, to court until the disposal of her case. Aliexandra was also advised to engage a counsel to represent her during the hearing. Earlier, Deputy Public Prosecutor Bryan Francis proposed bail of RM10,000 in two local sureties and also requested for several additional conditions to be imposed on Aliexandra.
