Angels to call-up top infield prospect Christian Moore for MLB debut: Source
The Los Angeles Angels are calling up their top infield prospect, second baseman Christian Moore, a league source told The Athletic.
Moore was the No. 8 pick in last year's MLB Draft out of the University of Tennessee and was ranked as the Angels' No. 2 prospect by The Athletic's Keith Law. He'll be with the Angels as they travel to Baltimore to begin a seven-game road trip on Friday.

The call-up, while quick, is actually much later than expected for Moore. He was set to make his debut late last season, but a September knee injury sidelined him and delayed his arrival.
After struggling in spring training, Moore went to Double-A Rocket City, where he did not hit well, posting a .665 OPS in 146 plate appearances. Still, he was promoted to Triple-A Salt Lake, where his offense took off. Moore hit .350 with four homers and 18 RBI in 92 plate appearances in Salt Lake, making the timing of his call-up seemingly imminent in recent days.
He'll provide a boost to an Angels team that's gone 16-9 over its last 25 games, and enters Friday just four games back of first place in the American League West.
The Angels have needed help on the infield amid copious struggles for Luis Rengifo, who has gone 74 consecutive plate appearances without an extra-base hit. Kevin Newman has also performed poorly on offense this season.
In recent years, the Angels have called up their top prospects quicker than any other organization. Pitcher Chase Silseth was the first player from the 2021 MLB Draft to debut in the majors, while shortstop Zach Neto was the first player from the 2022 draft to get the call-up. First baseman Nolan Schanuel played his first game with the Angels just a few weeks after being selected in 2023.
The front office has hoped that Moore will complement Schanuel and Neto as their infield core for many years. Neto's had an excellent start to the season, posting an .820 OPS with 10 home runs and 11 stolen bases. Schanuel's offense has picked up over the last month, and he has a .768 OPS on the season.

Aces star A'ja Wilson out Friday vs. Wings, enters concussion protocol
Las Vegas Aces star A'ja Wilson will not play in Friday night's game against the Dallas Wings after being placed in concussion protocol, the team announced Friday. Wilson had previously been listed as doubtful after suffering a head injury during Las Vegas' 97-89 loss to the Los Angeles Sparks on Wednesday night. Despite the downgrade Friday — Wilson must remain in concussion protocol for at least 48 hours — Wilson could be available for Sunday evening's game against the Phoenix Mercury. The Aces will then travel to play the Minnesota Lynx on Tuesday. Advertisement Wilson, a three-time WNBA MVP, suffered the injury with 1:17 remaining in the third quarter of Wednesday's loss and did not return. 'She was bleeding,' Aces coach Becky Hammon said after the game. 'She's going to go to the doctor tomorrow and see what's going on. I don't have anything beyond that.' The WNBA implemented its concussion policy in 2012, and reviews it periodically 'in order to keep it current and consistent with the evolving science of concussion management,' per the league's collective bargaining agreement. Wilson is just the latest in a string of players who have suffered head/face injuries throughout the first month of the season. Paige Bueckers, Rickea Jackson, Tiffany Hayes, Te-Hina Paopao and Shakira Austin are all missing time with concussions or hits to the head. Wilson's teammate, Jewell Loyd, briefly wore a mask after suffering a facial injury in Las Vegas' season-opener. Wilson is averaging 20.9 points and 9.6 rebounds on 43.3 percent shooting from the field this season. While those numbers are consistent with her career average, Las Vegas is just 4-3 on the season, having lost its last two games. Dallas is 1-10 on the season, and has lost all four of its games at home. Bueckers, the No. 1 pick in the 2025 WNBA Draft, is coming off her best game as a pro, having scored a career-high 35 points on 13-of-19 shooting in the Wings loss to the Mercury. Tipoff for Friday's game is set for 10 p.m. ET.

Russell Westbrook won't exercise $3.5 million option for next season, AP source says
Russell Westbrook will not be exercising his $3.5 million player option with the Denver Nuggets for next season and will instead become a free agent, a person with knowledge of the decision told The Associated Press on Friday. The decision doesn't necessarily mean that Westbrook won't be back with the Nuggets, said the person, who spoke on condition of anonymity because neither side revealed the decision publicly. NBA reporter Marc Stein first reported Westbrook's decision, which was later confirmed by ESPN and The Denver Post, among others. Westbrook averaged 13.3 points, 4.9 rebounds and 6.1 assists for the Nuggets this season — his 17th in the NBA — and helped Denver reach the second round of the playoffs, falling in seven games to eventual Western Conference champion Oklahoma City. He underwent surgery after the season to repair multiple ligament tears in his right hand, an issue he played through during the season. At that time, Westbrook posted in his newsletter than he was 'grateful for everyone's support all year and I can't wait to be back out there at 100% soon. The comeback is already in motion.' That would indicate that he is planning to play somewhere next season. Westbrook is a nine-time All-Star, nine-time All-NBA selection and won the MVP award after the 2016-17 season. He's also part of the NBA's 75th anniversary team and has averaged 21.2 points and eight assists per game over his career. ___ AP NBA:
