Sena UBT MLC helps Beed family after onion crop loss
Mumbai: Moved by the heartbreaking account of a farmer's daughter of the onion crop destruction due to unseasonal rains, Shiv Sena (UBT) MLC Milind Narvekar donated Rs 1 lakh to the family.
Mahesh Darekar, a farmer from Ashti Taluka in Beed district, incurred a huge loss as the onion crop cultivated on his three-acre land was ruined by the heavy rainfall. Along with the crop, his dream to educate his daughter Pragati, who is in standard one, seemed to wash away. Thanks to immediate intervention from Narvekar, Pragati can continue her education.
"I know this assistance will not cover all the losses the Darekar family suffered, but this is a small effort to give them some relief.
Pragati is a very bright child, and she will surely make great progress," said Narvekar, who heard of the Darekar family's financial trouble after watching Pragati speak to a news channel.
Darekar said he did not have the adequate facility to store the bags of onions, and they were all spoiled due to sudden rainfall. Darekar said the help from Narvekar was a big relief as he would be able to buy Pragati notebooks, uniforms, and nutritious snacks for some months.
"We sincerely thank Narvekar sir. His help has given us new hope. We were devastated when we lost our onion crop. Narvekar sir's quick response to the story of devastation has truly been comforting," said Darekar.

Tension at Durgadi Fort as rival Shiv Sena factions clash during Id-ul-Azha prayers
Tensions escalated in Maharashtra's Thane district on Saturday (June 7, 2025) after members of both the Eknath Shinde-led and Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray-led factions of the Shiv Sena attempted to reach Durgadi Fort while Id-ul-Azha prayers were being offered at its foothill. According to police officials, protestors from both factions tried to ascend to the Durga temple atop the hill during the course of the Id-ul-Azha prayers being held at the base, resulting in chaos in the area. Prohibitory orders under Section 144 of the CrPC were in effect, and several protestors were subsequently detained for violating the restrictions. Leaders from both sides, including Shinde faction functionary Ravi Patil and Uddhav faction leader Vijay Salvi, led rallies demanding that 'Durgadi Fort should be freed'. Their convoys converged at Shivaji Chowk, near the Durgadi temple, where slogans were raised by supporters of both groups. 'Police took measures to prevent protestors from both factions from reaching the fort. The protestors attempted to breach the barricades, triggering scuffles and a standoff with the police. We detained several members in preventive custody so that it does not escalate,' Deputy Commissioner of Police Atul Zende said. Durgadi Fort has long been at the centre of a communal dispute regarding the control of a mosque located within its premises. Access to the Durga temple is typically restricted during Id-ul-Azha to facilitate prayers at the foothill. Members of the Shiv Sena have criticised the arrangement, alleging discrimination against Hindu devotees and calling for equal access to the site. The Idgah located at the fort has been under litigation since 1976, when the Majlish-e-Mushavreen Majjid Trust filed a suit seeking control. In 2024, the court ruled in favour of the State government.

Union Agriculture Minister announces approximately Rs 6,262 crore for MNREGA for Madhya Pradesh this year
Sehore (Madhya Pradesh) [India], June 7 (ANI): Union Minister for Agriculture and Farmers' Welfare and Rural Development Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Saturday inaugurated and laid the foundation stones for various development works worth crores of rupees in Sehore district of Madhya Pradesh, the Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare said in a release. As per the release, on this occasion, Chouhan said that for the MGNREGA (Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act), Madhya Pradesh will receive approximately Rs 6,262 crore this year. Chouhan called upon everyone to actively participate in development initiatives and said, 'We will leave no stone unturned to fulfil Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of a Viksit Bharat by 2047. The development of villages and the nation is only possible with the support and cooperation of the people. The development of the country depends on the development of its villages.' Chouhan added that consistent work is being done to bring Narmada water to Sehore, and the people can expect the waters of Narmada to reach the region soon. Efforts are also underway to supply Narmada water to farmers' fields in Ashta and Ichhawar. Speaking on urban development, Chouhan noted that Bhopal is being designated as a metropolitan city, and this will significantly benefit Sehore as the two cities grow closer and progress together. Regarding housing for the poor, Chouhan shared that under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY), 14 lakh homes were approved for the poor as per the 2018+ list. He announced the approval of the remaining 7,85,356 houses. He also mentioned that the survey work for the scheme is underway, and after verification, new eligible applicants will also be approved to ensure that every deserving poor family gets a home. The Minister proudly stated that 1.48 crore women across the country have become 'Lakhpati Didis' (women earning Rs 1 lakh or more annually), and the government continues to strive to ensure no woman remains poor. Efforts are also being made to increase this number further. Chouhan further discussed the ongoing Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan, stating, 'I have asked 16,000 scientists to step out of laboratories and go into villages. These scientists are now visiting rural areas, sharing their research directly with the farmers. I urge farmers to listen carefully to the scientists and adopt their recommendations to increase productivity. It is our resolve to achieve Viksit Krishi (developed agriculture) for a Viksit Bharat.' Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, also addressing the gathering on this occasion, assured that irrigation facilities will be extended to every farm and that, wherever necessary, full water support will be provided to ensure complete irrigation, the release added. 'Pakistan has become a part of the UN Security Council. You all are aware that 52 terrorists reside in Pakistan. According to a list of chairs of the subsidiary bodies of the UN Security Council, Denmark will chair the 1267 ISIL and Al-Qaida Sanctions Committee of the UN Security Council, while Russia and Sierra Leone will be vice-chairs for 2025. Meanwhile, India, which co-chaired the Counter Terrorism Committee in 2022, has consistently reminded the international community that Pakistan is host to the world's largest number of UN-proscribed terrorists and entities, including notorious terrorist Osama bin Laden, who was found and eliminated by American forces in Pakistan in 2011.
