BUCKINGHAM, Pa. - Police in Buckingham Township shot and wounded an armed man who they say charged at an officer after crashing his vehicle into a parked car and threatening concerned neighbors.
The confrontation unfolded around 4 p.m. on Redfield Road when police responded to reports of an armed driver who was threatening neighbors.
Police say the suspect charged at a responding officer, who first deployed his Taser, and then fired a shot when it had no effect on the charging man.
No charges have been filed at this time, and police have withheld the identity of the officer or the suspect.
What we know
Officers from the Buckingham Township Police Department were called to Redfield Road around 4 p.m. for reports of a "violent incident unfolding."
Investigators say the driver of a van was driving recklessly on the 4800 block of Redfield Road and crashed into a parked vehicle.
The driver is accused of chasing neighbors into their homes while armed with a weapon and shouting "politically and religiously charged statements."
Investigators say the armed man charged at a responding officer, who deployed his Taser with no effect.
That's when police say the officer fired at least one shot toward the man.
The suspect was given aid by police and taken to a nearby hospital where he remained on Sunday. Police say two weapons were recovered from the suspect.
Charges are expected to be filed upon his release, according to authorities.

Wisconsin man arrested after allegedly threatening to 'murder' deputy, foot chase
MINERAL POINT, Wis. (WFRV) – A 42-year-old man was taken into custody Sunday afternoon following a series of threatening and disorderly actions that led to a brief foot chase and his arrest in a public restroom. According to the Iowa County Sheriff's Office, deputies responded around 4:10 p.m. to a report of a disturbance on Clowney Street in Mineral Point involving Matthew Rohowetz. Two suspects sentenced for their roles in 2023 North Fond du Lac shooting Authorities say Rohowetz had sent threatening and profane messages, including one stating an intent to 'murder' a member of the sheriff's office. When officers located Rohowetz, he initially refused to cooperate and fled on foot after they explained the legal consequences of violating bond conditions. A Taser was deployed but was ineffective. German minister backs equipping police with Tasers
Police throughout Germany should be equipped with Tasers, Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt has said. Dobrindt told the Funke media group of newspapers he would ensure that the legal framework for equipping officers with the electric shock devices was established this year. He described the use of the devices as "a suitable means" of responding to the increased threat to police in public. Tasers would also better protect officers if they were attacked with stabbing weapons, such as knives, he said. The devices operate at a distance of between 2 and 5 metres, temporarily incapacitating people with an electrical shock.
