Report: Knicks interview Wolves assistant Micah Nori

Miami Herald24-06-2025
Minnesota Timberwolves assistant Micah Nori is the third candidate to formally interview for the New York Knicks' vacant head coaching position, ESPN reported Tuesday.
Former NBA head coaches Mike Brown and Taylor Jenkins previously met with the team about replacing fired head coach Tom Thibodeau, dismissed earlier this month after the Knicks' first Eastern Conference finals appearance in a quarter-century.
Nori, 51, has been on Chris Finch's staff in Minnesota since 2021. The Timberwolves denied the Knicks' request for an interview with Finch.
Nori previously worked as an assistant with the Detroit Pistons (2018-21), Denver Nuggets (2015-18), Sacramento Kings (2013-15) and Toronto Raptors (2009-13).
Brown, 55, was fired 31 games into his third season as the head coach in Sacramento, where he posted a 107-88 overall record. The two-time NBA Coach of the Year also led the Cleveland Cavaliers (2005-10, 2013-14) and Los Angeles Lakers (2011-12) and has a career record of 454-304 in the regular season.
The Memphis Grizzlies fired Jenkins, 40, in March with nine games left in the regular season and a 44-29 record. He compiled a 250-214 record in nearly six full seasons with the Grizzlies. They qualified for the playoffs three times.

Sixers vs. Knicks matchup mentioned as a must see matchup in 2025-26

As the Philadelphia 76ers now prepare to move into the new season, they will be looking for their main stars to return healthy and lead the team back into contention. The Sixers went through a miserable 24-58 season in 2024-25 as injuries derailed any chance they had at contending for a title. In theory, the Sixers should be contenders in the upcoming season. The trio of Joel Embiid, Paul George, and Tyrese Maxey should be enough to keep them in the conversation of reaching the finals for the first time since 2001. This is a talented roster on paper and the East is wide-open in 2026 due to all of the injuries and newness around the conference at the moment. This is their chance to do something big if they can finally get some injury luck. CBS Sports ranked the top must-see matchups in the 2025-26 season and the Sixers taking on the Knicks on Dec. 19 is considered one of those must-see contests: The Sixers hope to stay healthy this season, but it could be a slow start, as Paul George underwent knee surgery this summer. He's expected to be reevaluated before training camp, so we'll see if he actually misses any regular-season games. If the Sixers are fully healthy, they'll be a solid threat to the likes of the Knicks and Cavaliers near the top of the East. The Knicks can match up against a healthy Joel Embiid and a Sixers team that has the depth. And don't forget the Knicks made the Eastern Conference finals a season ago. It will be a good litmus test for Philadelphia to see where this team is at early in the season and gauge where they may fall in the pecking order of the East. Health will be the operative word with the Sixers. If Embiid, George, and Maxey are ready to go, then they will have just as good a chance as anybody to conquer the East in the upcoming season. If not? It could be another tough season as the role players get put into tough situations and are asked to do more than they should.

The Liga MX powerhouse finished as runner-up in the 2019 edition of this competition and now sits just three wins from improving on that personal best to take the crown. Toppling Messi & Co in Fort Lauderdale will be no easy feat, however, particularly after Javier Mascherano's men have lost just one of their last seven games in all competitions. The Herons sit fifth in Major League Soccer's Eastern Conference with three games in hand over every team sitting above them, with a chance to climb to the summit if they win each of those fixtures. Tigres has the benefit of having already defeated Inter Miami just last year when these teams met in the group stage of the Leagues Cup. It was almost exactly one year ago that Juan Vigon's 84th-minute decider put Los Auriazules through to the knockout stage as group winners, though both teams ended up bowing out in the last 16. Tigres pulled off that feat in Houston but won't have the benefit of neutral territory this time around. Guido Pizarro's men may feel confident about their chances nonetheless, though the likes of Messi, Luis Suarez, Sergio Busquets, and Jordi Alba will have something to say on the matter. Blockbuster Trade Idea Sees Celtics Jaylen Brown Land with Pistons

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. The NBA offseason has been quite the spectacle. It's been filled with a ton of changes, but arguably no team has changed more this summer than the Boston Celtics. The Celtics endured a ton of changes. For starters, they lost four of their key players this offseason, including Kristaps Porzingis, Luke Kornet, Jrue Holiday and most likely Al Horford. These moves were deemed necessary as the Celtics needed to get under the dreaded second apron in the Collective Bargaining Agreement. The Celtics are finally under that threshold, but there is a possibility that a trade could still be on the radar. Who they could/would trade is another mystery. This massive trade proposal sees the Celtics deal their $285 million star guard, Jaylen Brown, to their Eastern Conference foe, the Detroit Pistons. Jayson Tatum #0 of the Boston Celtics low-fives Jaylen Brown #7 of the Boston Celtics as he enters the court during the first quarter of the game against the Detroit Pistons at TD Garden on November 09, 2022 in Boston, Massachusetts. More Photo byGrant Hughes of Bleacher Report has the Celtics deal Brown to the Pistons for this massive haul. "Trade Idea: Detroit Pistons acquire Jaylen Brown from the Boston Celtics for Ron Holland II, Jaden Ivey, Tobias Harris and a 2027 first-round pick (protected 1-4)." "The Celtics get $7.7 million in 2025-26 salary savings—not enough to get them out of the tax this season, but every little bit helps. When Harris' $26.6 million comes off the books after the season, Boston will be free and clear. "Meanwhile, the Pistons add Brown to a core of Cunningham, Thompson and Jalen Duren. That group should be able to better last season's No. 6 seed in the East while moving up Detroit's timeline a bit. With Cunningham already an All-NBA player, the time to add high-end (and high-cost) talent is now." The Celtics get back three solid players in turn in this scenario, plus a first-round pick in the 2027 draft. Brown has been a staple for the Celtics for the past nine seasons. He was one of the main reasons for their title in 2024, bringing home Finals MVP. The 28-year-old has spent his entire career, but he could be getting too expensive for the C's. Brown signed the most lucrative contract in the sport two summers ago, signing a five-year contract worth $304 million. The deal includes a supermax extension and the money he will be owed will only raise throughout the years. This upcoming season, Brown will be owed $53 million. In the final year of the contract, Brown will be owed $64 million. The Celtics love Brown, but with nagging injuries under his belt already, that contract could be one they want no business with down the line. For more NBA news, head over to Newsweek Sports.
