Railway Ministry brings new train classes 3E, Vistadome under upgradation scheme

Time of India16-05-2025

The
Railway Ministry
has amended its
upgradation scheme
to bring the newly-introduced train classes under its ambit, including Vistadome non-AC,
Vistadome coach
,
Executive Anubhuti
and
Third AC Economy
or 3E. "To optimise the utilisation of available accommodation in a train, a scheme to upgrade full fare paying passengers to the next higher class against the available vacant accommodation was introduced in 2006. At present, this scheme is available in all types of trains, including those having sitting accommodation," a ministry circular dated May 13 said.
The ministry has reviewed the existing scheme to bring the new train classes - Vistadome non-AC (VS), Vistadome coach (EV), Executive Anubhuti (EA) and 3E - under the hierarchy for upgradation, as these classes were introduced after 2014 when the upgradation scheme was last amended, it said.
According to the circular, the hierarchy for an upgradation for sitting accommodation from lower class to upper class is 2S (second seating class), VS, CC (chair car), EC (executive class), EV and EA.

Similarly, the hierarchy for sleeping upgradation is sleeper class (SL), 3E, Third AC (3A), AC 2nd class (2A) and AC first class (1A).
"The upgradation shall be done up to two classes in the hierarchy, which are available in a particular train with the limitation that the upgradation in 1A and the executive class (EC, EV and EA) shall be restricted to be done only from the just below class, i.e., 2A in case of 1A and CC in case of EC/EV/EA," the circular said.
Live Events
According to a reservation supervisor, since the new classes have been incorporated under the scheme, the hierarchy has become longer with more options.
The circular also made provisions for incorporation under the upgradation scheme of any new class that the Railways launches in the future.
"In case any new class is introduced in the future, the upgradation shall be up to the next two levels based on fare," the circular said.
It added, "All passengers who have booked tickets on full fare shall be eligible for the upgrade. The full fare-paying passengers, who are booking under senior citizen/lower berth quotas, may be asked to exercise the upgradation choice cautiously.
"In case such passengers opt for upgradation, a message should come that in the higher class, you may or may not get a lower berth. The CRIS (Centre for Railway Information Systems) will make the necessary provisions in the software accordingly."
Officials working in the reservation department said that only those passengers who opt for auto-upgradation while booking their tickets will be considered under this scheme.
"If a 3A waiting passenger has opted for auto upgradation, he/she can be upgraded without paying any extra fare to 2A, provided there is no waiting list of passengers for the 2A class and berths are lying vacant," a reservation supervisor said.
This scheme was last amended in 2014 when it was introduced for sitting accommodation in all mail and express trains.
Before that, it was applicable for sleeping accommodation in mail and express trains.

Broken parapet walls on ghat roads in Alluri Sitharama Raju district await repairs

1 2 Visakhapatnam: Despite repeated appeals from motorists and tourists, officials in Alluri Sitharama Raju (ASR) district are yet to address the dire condition of the parapet walls on ghat roads in the district. Eyewitnesses reported that several stretches remain dangerously exposed, with broken sections forcing drivers to navigate with extreme caution. Commuters express concern over the heightened risk of accidents, especially during the monsoon. Motorists continue to urge authorities to undertake immediate repairs, noting that assurances given in previous meetings have not translated into action on the ground. ASR districts have more places of attraction such as Araku Valley, Paderu, Lammasingi, Vanjangi, Chintapalle, Ananthagiri, Borra Caves, Maredumu and few other locations. With scenic valleys, cold weather conditions and beautiful waterfalls, parts of ASR district have been attracting many visitors from parts of the country. However, Vaddadi-Paderu, Paderu-Chintapalle and S Kota-Araku ghat roads in the district are turning dangerous due to poor condition of parapet walls, bushes, and protruding branches on sides of ghat roads used to block vision for motorists. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 5 Books Warren Buffett Wants You to Read In 2025 Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo "Though accidents have been reported along the ghat roads here, the district administration has not taken up any repair work yet. The sharp bends, steep incline and damaged parapet walls contribute to accidents in the area. The parapet walls on the major ghats roads in ASR district are too weak to provide much protection to motorists if there is an accident. Many parapet walls are in dilapidated condition," said K Srinivasa Reddy, a frequent commuter. Several parapet walls had sustained damages years ago and haven't been repaired yet, he added. Between October and March, tourists from parts of the country visit ASR district and a large number of tourists' vehicles ply on ghat roads. Several motorists have been demanding the authorities to take up repair works on the parapet walls to avert the possible mishaps. "The parapet walls are supposed to avert possible mishaps on the ghat roads, but if a vehicle (either a car or any goods carrier vehicle) hits a broken parapet wall on the ASR ghat roads, it will plunge into the valley," said D Sudhakar, a native of Vizag city. Meanwhile, district transport officer Leela Prasad told TOI that they have highlighted the need to repair the parapet walls on ghat roads during the road safety meeting. "Soon, the transport department, with coordination with police and roads and buildings department, will conduct a survey to identify locations of the damaged parapet walls and will submit a report. Based on the report, the district administration will take up the repair works," he added. Follow more information on Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad here . Calm turns to confusion as AI crash shakes flyers at SVPI airport in Ahmedabad

1 2 3 Ahmedabad: Less than an hour after an Air India flight crashed on Thursday afternoon, the phones of passengers and airline staff at the Ahmedabad airport started pinging incessantly. Their WhatsApp accounts were flooded with a video of the Dreamliner slowly descending against the Ahmedabad skyline and bursting into a fireball. Just minutes ago, many of them had learned of the crash through frantic calls from family and friends. Still, the crowd remained largely composed — until the video surfaced. Soon, a visible shift swept the terminal. A sense of urgency and agitation set in. Anxious passengers flooded airline counters, seeking cancellations or rescheduling. By then, the flight information display screens started flashing the 'delayed' sign. "I'm not flying now," said a passenger booked on a Delhi-bound flight, who seemed visibly shaken after seeing the video clip. "I just don't have the courage to sit in an aircraft now. Maybe I'll fly in a couple of days." Not everyone backed out. "I have my senior citizen parents with me," said a woman from Kolkata, looking to go home. "We'll take the next available flight," she insisted, as she pressed airline staff to rearrange her booking the same evening. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Вот что поза во сне говорит о вашем характере! Would cancellation lead to a full refund? Airline and airport staff tried to respond even as their own phones buzzed with the same haunting footage. The confusion was palpable, especially among the senior citizens who were travelling alone and had little experience of flying. Unable to push his way past the swarms to reach the counters, one such passenger stopped strangers and said, "I have a connecting flight to Tirupati from Hyderabad. Can someone tell me what to do next?" Immediately, a small group of youngsters helped him access a counter. However, for all the uncertainty that abounded, tempers did not fly, and most passengers held their nerve. They seemed to understand that they were standing not far from a tragedy that could only be dealt with sobriety. They lined up at the exits to fill out the 'Pax Offloaded Register' even as airline staff stood next to them, staring in disbelief at the fireball video in a loop. By late evening, flight operations resumed, and a semblance of normalcy returned.
