The American will be the oldest entrant in singles at the tournament since Renee Richards was 47 in 1981, according to the International Tennis Federation.
Williams already had been given a wild-card entry by the U.S. Tennis Association for next week's mixed doubles competition. Singles matches begin in New York on Aug. 24.
She is the owner of seven major singles championships — including at the U.S. Open in 2000 and 2001 — along with another 14 in women's doubles, all won with her younger sister, Serena, plus two in mixed doubles. Serena retired with 23 Slam singles trophies after playing at the 2022 U.S. Open.

Kai Trump ditches Elon Musk gift as she begins final year at school before Miami golf scholarship
Fore, please, Kai Trump now driving... but not a Cybertruck. The President's eldest grandchild marked the start of her senior year of high school in Florida with a nod to her future college and golf team, the University of Miami Hurricanes. 'I cannot believe it's my last first day of high school,' the 18-year-old daughter of Donald Trump Jr. wrote on Instagram. 'Senior year here we come.' The pics show Kai with her high school friends standing alongside their (luxury) cars, most of which are marked with 'Seniors' across the rear window. Kai is seen in three photos alongside a Cadillac SUV marked with the unmistakable logo of 'The U,' a common nickname for the century-old private university in Coral Gables she'll attend next year. One slide shows Kai flashing the 'U' hand sign, while another shows her alongside her mother, Vanessa Kay Pergolizzi. Curiously, Kai no longer appears to be driving the Cybertruck her grandfather gifted her prior to his fallout with Tesla CEO Elon Musk. The vehicle she pictured herself with on Instagram back in October of last year has mysteriously given way to a new Escalade in several recent social media videos. A golfer since age 2, Kai has been committed to the Hurricanes since April of 2024 and helped the Benjamin School of Palm Beach Gardens to a district title last season. As of June 26, she was ranked 530 by the American Junior Golf Association. She was even more successful on social media, ranking No. 81 among all high school and college athletes in terms of NIL valuations, according to Kai is now set to join a Hurricanes program that's won five national championships, but none since 1984, while producing one national player of the year in Tracy Kerdyk (1988). What's more, she will also get to play at Miami's home course, the prestigious Biltmore, which costs the public $200 for 18 holes. Of course, that might not be a huge thrill for Kai, whose grandfather owns courses on both sides of the Atlantic with ongoing projects in Oman and Vietnam. And that experience on a variety of challenging courses should come in handy in a highly competitive ACC, which boasts elite programs like Stanford, Florida State and Virginia. While Kai is among the most visible high school athletes in the country, she's may not be the biggest name at her school, where Tiger Woods' son Charlie also attends. Charlie, whose father is dating Kai's mother, is currently No. 14 on the AJGA boy's rankings.

‘There was more at stake today': Brewers' victory wins burgers for entire city of Milwaukee
Brandon Woodruff has pitched some of the most important games in Milwaukee Brewers history but even he felt added pressure as he took the mound Wednesday afternoon against the Pittsburgh Pirates. Not only would a victory Wednesday maintain his perfect record on the season and extend Milwaukee's winning streak to 12 games, free hamburgers for the entire city of Milwaukee were on the line. 'I was nervous,' Woodruff said. 'There was a little bit more at stake today. I wanted to win those burgers bad. Who doesn't want a free burger?' The Brewers promptly beat the Pirates 12-5. Local restaurant chain George Webb has been promising free burgers if the Brewers won 17 consecutive games for decades, starting way back when Milwaukee was home to the minor-league Brewers of the old American Association. The promotion dropped to 13 games by the time the Braves made Milwaukee a big-league city in 1953 but that franchise couldn't make it happen before departing for Atlanta in 1966. Webb changed the promotion to 12 games when the Brewers moved from Seattle in 1970. In 1987, the Brewers opened the season with 13 wins in a row. More than 170,000 burgers were given away to mark the occasion. The Brewers accomplished the feat a second time in 2018. They closed the regular season with eight regular-season victories followed by four playoff wins. Milwaukee have come close on a few occasions since, including an 11-game winning streak earlier this season. The Brewers and their fans can relax and look down on the rest of MLB while they chomp on their burgers. Their 76 wins this year are six more than the second-best team, the Toronto Blue Jays. George Webb will announce the details of the giveaway on Thursday afternoon.

NFL legend Aaron Donald sparks fan concern after posting wild helmet-to-helmet hit with his son
Rams legend Aaron Donald has gone viral after a clip emerged of the NFL icon practicing helmet-to-helmet collisions with his young son. Donald retired last March after an incredible 10 years in the NFL. He was a three-time defensive player of the year, a Super Bowl winner and eight-time All Pro known for his ferocity. Now, it seems the 34-year-old wants to teach his nine-year-old son, Aaron Jr, a few tricks of the trade - and show him the brutal reality of life in the NFL. The former defensive tackle this week posted a clip on social media entitled 'Another day at the Donald's (sic).' In the video, the Rams legend - a father of four - can be seen colliding head-on with his son in the family home. 'Don't be scared! If you can hit me, you can hit anybody,' he tells Aaron Jr., who proceeds to put the ball under his arm and run straight at his father. 'Not the head!' someone - believed to be Donald's wife, Erica - is heard shouting. But Donald - wearing his old Rams gear - invites his son to come again. After the second helmet-on-helmet clash, Donald shakes his head and jokes: 'I feel rusty, huh' View this post on Instagram A post shared by Aaron Donald (@aarondonald99) He then invites his son to 'go a little harder'. After initially refusing, the child obliges and following a third collision, he grabs his head - much to Donald's amusement. But the clip sparked concern among some fans, who warned that his son risked giving himself a brain injury at a young age. 'Lil bro gonna have CTE by 11,' one said. 'Jesus Christ is he trying to give his kid CTE before his balls drop,' added another. 'Love this but please don't let that boy get in a habit of leading with his head like that,' said a third, According to the Boston University CTE Center, 'Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy (CTE) is a degenerative brain disease found in athletes, military veterans, and others with a history of repetitive brain trauma. 'CTE is caused in part by repeated traumatic brain injuries, which include concussions and nonconcussive impacts.' On Wednesday, meanwhile, details of Donald's frightening ordeal with an alleged stalker were revealed in newly surfaced court files from Los Angeles County, where the three-time NFL Defensive Player of the Year admittedly feared for his family's safety and his own. Donald, who was regarded as one of the toughest players in the NFL before retiring in 2024, filed the restraining order against his alleged stalker in April after what's described in the court filings as years of unwanted harassment by the woman, whom he claims to have never met. The woman, Janelle Anwar, is accused of sending threatening and harassing emails to the Donald family, according to court files obtained by Daily Mail. The Athletic first reported details of the temporary restraining order request. Anwar is further accused of sending packages and balloons to Donald's children, and travelled to Pittsburgh where he was holding a football camp, as she confirmed to Daily Mail on Wednesday. Although Donald claims he's never met Anwar, she nonetheless filed a pair of divorce petitions against him seeking millions of dollars. Donald also received Google Chat messages from his alleged stalker that he took as a threat against his 3-year-old son, according to the temporary restraining order request.
