The southbound detour includes eastbound on Division Street, southbound on LaSalle Drive, westbound on Grand Avenue, and back to Halsted Street.

Amex GBT Aims for $155 Million in Savings From CWT Merger

The stock market liked the optimistic story that Amex GBT was telling about the CWT acquisition and margin expansion. Large mergers can be messy affairs, but Global Business Travel Group officials are focused on cost savings now that the merger with CWT is slated to close soon. 'We expect to deliver approximately $155 million in identified net synergies and have a proven track record of integrating large acquisitions and achieving our synergy targets,' Paul Abbott, the CEO of Amex GBT, said during the second-quarter earnings call. Those savings would be over a three-year period. The merger of the #1 (Amex GBT) and #4 (CWT) largest global players in business travel is on track to close before the end of September now that the U.S. Department of Justice dismissed its own lawsuit against the merger. Abbott said that 'given the recent clarity on CWT,' it plans to initiate additional share repurchases in the next few months. The CEO said he can't comment on CWT's financial performance but will do so in November during the next quarterly presentation. 'Our commercial success, margin expansion and improved demand environment give us confidence to raise and narrow our full-year 2025 guidance,' Abbott said. Customer Wins The commercial success was a reference to market share gains and $3.2 billion in new customer wins over the past year. Some $2.2 billion of those wins were of small- and medium-sized businesses, a segment that has been traditionally hard to capture. Amex GBT's adjusted EBITDA increased 4% in the second quarter. Revenue rose 1% to $631 million. After macro uncertainty saw corporate travel demand dip modestly in April, transactions grew a combined 2% in May and June. 'We continue to see green shoots into July that give us confidence that the demand environment has improved,' Abbott said.

TP-Link's new travel router delivers Wi-Fi 7 speeds

Connecting to free airport or hotel Wi-Fi can often be a time-consuming and frustrating task that doesn't seem worth the effort for a bag full of wireless devices. TP-Link has announced its first Wi-Fi 7 travel router, providing up to a total of 3.6 Gbps of bandwidth while also making it easier to get multiple devices online from anywhere. The TP-Link Wi-Fi 7 BE3600 Travel Router (TL-WR3602BE) is available now for $139.99 but Amazon has it for $109.99 with a $30 discount that's available until the end of August. We all travel with multiple devices needing Wi-Fi connectivity, and when you add kids and family into the mix, connecting them all to hotel or airport Wi-Fi can be an arduous job. Having all those devices pre-connected to a single travel router streamlines the process since you're then only connecting one device to public Wi-Fi. You can use TP-Link's mobile Tether app or the router's web interface to navigate those annoying captive portals and login pages just once. Other reasons to use a travel router include an extra layer of privacy. The TL-WR3602BE includes support for the OpenVPN and WireGuard protocols, so you can connect to over 35 different VPN providers, including NordVPN and Surfshark, while using a public Wi-Fi network you don't entirely trust. And while your smartphone can serve as a hotspot for a handful of devices, TP-Link's new travel router can connect to up to 90 at once. There's no built-in battery, but the travel router needs just 5V and can be powered using an included AC adapter, an external power bank, or even a USB-C connection to a laptop. It includes a pair of external antennas you can raise to extend its range, a USB-A 3.0 port for sharing files from connected drives, a 2.5 Gbps WAN and 1 Gbps LAN port, and a customizable button that can be configured to turn the VPN on and off, or quickly activate other functions. Some travelers will be required to pay a $15,000 visa bond to enter the U.S. Here's which countries are on the list

The State Department announced on Monday it will start a new pilot program in August that will require some foreign travelers to pay up to $15,000 for a bond, so they won't overstay their visas. Here's what to know. What happened? On Monday, the Federal Register listed the program details, and while many remain unclear, in short, it said the State Department would begin a 12-month long visa bond pilot program, which could apply to foreign citizens applying for a temporary B-1 or B-2 visas visiting the U.S. for business or pleasure. It applies to 'nationals of countries identified… as having high visa overstay rates, where screening and vetting information is deemed deficient, or offering Citizenship by Investment, if the alien obtained citizenship with no residency requirement.' In that case, consular officers may be required to post a bond of up to $15,000. The free is 'reimbursable' and meant to deter people from staying for longer than they're allowed. Those travelers who stay in the U.S. after visa expires will forfeit their bond; those who leave before it expires will get their money back, according to the New York Times.
