Cut down collection points, push for zero waste vision, ULB chief tells MCG
Gurgaon: ULB director Pankaj on Friday instructed MCG officials to expedite legacy waste processing and increase its capacity. He also directed them to reduce the number of secondary waste collection points in the city to move towards "zero dumping ground".
The sanitation system of the city, in terms of the areas, should be fully recorded on a digital map to ensure that new officials are well-informed, the minister told MCG officials.
Officials informed the director, who visited Bandhwari on Friday afternoon, that two agencies were currently engaged in the legacy waste processing at the Bandhwari landfill site.
Earlier in the day, the director held a meeting with the MCG officials and told them municipal work should be both technical and manual, adding, all officials should oversee cleanliness during their visits.
He said, "Roads, drainage, sewerage networks and water bodies should be mapped. The number of secondary garbage collection points should be reduced to move towards zero dumping grounds."
Pankaj suggested mapping water bodies, roads, drainage and sewerage networks, besides the areas assigned to the sanitary inspectors and officials, to monitor the city's sanitation effectively.
The director inspected the material recovery facility at Nathupur village and the micro STP in Sector 43, where he gathered information from officials about the operation and technical aspects of these facilities.
He visited the command and control centre at GMDA office in Sector 44 to observe the smart technologies in use. During the meeting, MCG commissioner Pradeep Dahiya mentioned that the process for a new tender for door-to-door garbage collection is underway.
To ensure effective and technical monitoring of this task, RFID tags will be placed on households. He said that the monitoring of road sweeping machines is being increased and cameras will be installed on them.
Routes have been shared with councillors and RWAs. He said for the construction and demolition (C&D) waste management, a plant is operational in Basai, tenders are being floated and other actions are being taken to remove debris from other parts of the city.

Pankaj Tripathi doesn't believe his acting has a type: '10 paintings from a painter look similar from afar'
Pankaj Tripathi is Madhav Mishra once again. The actor has returned as the beloved lawyer for the fourth time in the new season of Criminal Justice. In a candid chat with Hindustan Times, the actor opens up about returning to the character and avoiding being typecast. The fourth season of Criminal Justice, titled A Family Matter, sees Madhav Mishra fighting his toughest case yet. Talking about returning to the familiar character, Pankaj says, "It is a bit like meeting an old friend, too, and also like remembering something you once studied." Ask him about how he makes sure the character does not fall prey to repetition, and Pankaj replies, 'That is all due to the writing. As an actor, you can pick the best available path to portray a character. There, as a choice, you can avoid the cliches and pandering to the audience.' Madhav Mishra is a role that he has played the most number of times on screen. But his critics argue that a little bit of Pankaj Tripathi in most roles he does. The actor addresses that and says, "There is a problem in our Hindi film industry that in the days of struggle, there is no work. There were 2-3-year periods between 2004 and 2012 when I did not even face a camera. I could not shoot. After that, I got some small roles, and slowly, I became bigger. A lot of offers came my way. Jab bhookh zyada lagi ho to over-eating karna sambhav hai (When you are famished, there is a possibility of over-eating). So, I overate. I did a lot of work. That creates the challenge of keeping things different. You try, that's all you can do." But he does not agree that all his roles are similar. "If you look at 10 paintings from one painter from afar, they look similar, because he has his own style. But the moment you go closer, you see minor differences. That is my effort too, to bring that minor difference," argues Pankaj, adding, "The important thing is to work less. But when you do a lot of work, my effort is not to lose my touch that the audience likes, but the characters still feel different." Criminal Justice: A Family Matter also stars Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub, Surveen, Asha Negi, Khushboo Atre, Mita Vashisht, and Shweta Basu Prasad. The first three episodes of the season premiered on JioHotstar on May 29, with one releasing every week subsequently.

Cricket fans across Australia have made their excitement for the 2025-26 Men's Ashes series loud and clear—over 220,000 tickets were sold on the very first day of pre-sale, June 3, smashing Cricket Australia's single-day ticket sales record. The demand more than doubled the previous record of 111,000 set back in 2017-18 and is being seen as one of the strongest signs yet of how highly anticipated this summer's Ashes rush began within hours of the priority pre-sale opening, as fans scrambled to book seats for the biggest fixtures on the calendar. Tickets for the iconic Boxing Day Test at the MCG and the first-ever day-night Ashes match at the Gabba sold out rapidly as fans rushed to secure their as tickets rolled out across different states, fans reported long wait times, slow loading pages, and even being kicked off the system mid-purchase. At one point, more than 200,000 users were in virtual queues, trying to grab tickets for the Ashes and other international matches. Many fans also had to register for pre-sale codes in advance, with a limit of nine tickets per buyer adding to the urgency and pressure. Gurgaon civics bodies clear vending carts and parked vehicles near Unitech Cyber Park
The Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) and the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) conducted a joint demolition drive Monday morning to clear encroachments along the sector 39/46 dividing road. The action was prompted by multiple complaints about illegal vending carts and parked vehicles obstructing the service road near Unitech Cyber Park, causing significant traffic delays, a GMDA spokesperson said. 'The GMDA and MCG teams found that illegal carts were operating close to the cyber park, while cycle tracks and two-wheeler lanes developed by GMDA were being used as unauthorised parking spaces for cars and bikes. Despite four prior visits by MCG teams, which involved towing vehicles and issuing warnings to cart owners, the encroachments persisted, leading to delays of 45 minutes to an hour to cross a 500m stretch', it was added. The drive was led by R S Baath, Nodal Officer for Encroachments and District Town Planner, GMDA, and also involved traffic police personnel. Approximately 50 illegal carts operating without permits were demolished, and 28 challans worth Rs 15,000 were issued for parking rule violations. Commercial establishments nearby were directed to arrange staff parking within their premises. 'Investigations revealed that some cart owners lacked Aadhaar cards, and many were locals. Public reports also indicated that local mafias were charging up to Rs 3,000 from cart owners to operate on the stretch,' the GMDA spokesperson said. Baath stated that the GMDA is conducting regular day and night enforcement drives on key master and service roads. The authority aims to clear public land, green belts, and improve traffic management in Gurgaon, with more such drives planned over the next three months, he added. Last month the two bodies too jointly cleared over 75 allegedly illegal vegetable carts from Khandsa Road and 14 carts from Mahavir Chowk, Agrasen Chowk, and Bus Stand Road to tackle widespread encroachment. That action had been prompted by residents' complaints about traffic disruptions caused by illegal vendors near the Sabzi Mandi at Khandsa Road that affected school buses and office-goers. In April, the two civic bodies had jointly removed over 200 encroachments by shops on a 2.5 km stretch from Mata Mandir to sector 5 in the city. 'There is a zero-tolerance policy towards encroachment, and FIRs will be lodged against the violators,' Baath said at the time.
