Steves & Sons Partners With Bot Auto For Driverless Deliveries

Door and millwork manufacturer Steves & Sons, Inc. is entering a pilot program with autonomous trucking technology startup Bot Auto, the companies announced Thursday.
Managed logistics provider J.B. Hunt Transport Inc., will advise San Antonio, Texas-based Steves & Sons in integrating autonomous trucking into its operation, initially among routes in Texas to and from San Antonio and Dallas and Houston, the company said, in a release.
'We're proud to be working with J.B. Hunt and Bot Auto to drive innovation and stay at the forefront of technology,' said Scott Lovett, chief operating officer at Steves & Sons, in a statement. 'This collaboration is about more than improving logistics—it's about reimagining how our industry operates to meet the evolving needs of our customers and communities.'
Operating just four trucks out of its Houston, Texas base, startup Bot Auto is the creation of Xiaodi Hou, the former co-founder of former autonomous trucking company TuSimple, now rebranded as CreateAI, pivoting to AI gaming technology.
Dissatisfied with the direction of the company, Hou left in 2022 and created Bot Auto, bringing along several other former TuSimple employees who also felt disenfranchised.

Working with several local dealers and outsourcing most of the hardware, Bot then retrofits the trucks with its autonomous technology at its facility, according to Hou. For now, he's keeping the company from growing too quickly.
'We are a very scrappy company now. So one thing that we need to resist doing is to scale up before we're ready,' said Hou, in an interview this past May. 'So now we have a very modest fleet of four trucks. We do not plan to expand our footprint in operation until we're ready, and the meaning for ready is that until we're basically breaking even on a per mile basis.'
In March, the company began a minimum four-month pilot program hauling cargo for commercial shippers between Houston and San Antonio with no driver behind the wheel.
For Steves & Sons, the pilot program involving Bot Auto and J.B. Hunt represents both a step forward and a bit of an experiment with autonomous trucking.
The focus will be on streamlining plant-to-customer transfers and improving logistical planning and execution, according to the company.
Indeed, the combination of economics and an ongoing driver shortage has added impetus to the move towards moving goods on autonomous trucks.
As of last summer there were more than 78,000 unfilled truck driver positions according to CDLjobs.com, while a report by Ryder System Inc. notes 'industry experts predict that if trends continue, the number of unfilled positions could exceed 170,000 by 2030.'
Contributing to the persistent driver shortage are several factors including 'the job's demanding nature, involving long hours on the road and extended periods away from home, deters many potential candidates,' the Ryder System report reveals. 'Although competitive, pay rates often don't fully compensate for the tough working conditions, further discouraging new entrants. These factors combined create a perfect storm, resulting in a growing gap between the demand for truck drivers and the supply available to meet that demand.
It's all leading to more companies looking at the feasibility of moving their goods in driverless trucks and new partnerships like this latest one between Steves & Sons and Bot Auto.
'This is not just a technical upgrade—it's a cultural shift,' Lovett declared. 'We're investing in the future of American manufacturing by building smarter, safer, and more adaptive supply chain systems that support our employees, our partners, and the customers we serve.'

Riot Platforms, Inc. (NASDAQ:RIOT) shares are trading lower on Friday. Riot reported second-quarter revenue of $152.99 million, beating analyst estimates of $147.65 million. The firm reported second-quarter earnings of 57 cents per share, beating estimates for a loss of 10 cents per the earnings release, JP Morgan analyst Reginald L. Smith reiterated the Neutral rating on the company. Smith notes that Riot's second-quarter results were largely in line with JP Morgan's expectations, with a modest sequential dip in revenue and cash operating profit due to seasonal curtailment that reduced bitcoin output. During the earnings call, management highlighted their long-term strategy to monetize Riot's power infrastructure through high-performance computing (HPC) data centers, starting with 600 MW at the upcoming Corsicana site set to launch in 2026. In the short term, Riot intends to continue leveraging its energy assets primarily for bitcoin mining while gradually preparing its 1.8 GW portfolio to cater to HPC clients. Smith believes Riot's infrastructure is well-positioned to support low-latency HPC workloads and sees promise in recent team expansions and site upgrades. However, he cautions that investors awaiting near-term colocation deals may need to stay patient, as Riot was relatively late to embrace the HPC model and such agreements typically require over nine months to finalize. Smith observes that management continues to see robust interest in power from hyperscalers, especially in key markets like Dallas, and is actively in discussions with potential partners. Riot's top focus is securing a tenant for its planned 600 MW build-to-suit data center at the Corsicana site, with 400 MW expected to be available in the first half of 2026 and the remaining 200 MW in the second half. The company has also made site-specific upgrades to support high-performance computing needs, including acquiring adjacent land and obtaining approval for a new water line. Smith notes that location is a key factor for hyperscalers evaluating new data center builds, and he believes Riot is well-positioned to meet the requirements of large-scale, low-latency HPC operations. However, since Riot only began seriously pursuing the HPC strategy in late 2024 and such deals typically require nine months or more to finalize, Smith does not anticipate a near-term colocation announcement. Former Penn State star Micah Parsons calls out Cowboys, Jerry Jones amid trade request

One of the storylines of the NFL offseason has been the ongoing contract disputes with former Penn State star defender Micah Parsons and the Dallas Cowboys. It's been a messy offseason between the two sides, and things just got worse, as the first-round pick out of Penn State officially requested his trade from the Cowboys and called out the team and owners in the process. Parsons shared a long message with the background for his trade request, with a simple message accompanying it of "Thank you, Dallas!" In his message, Parsons shared a very blunt response to the negotiations and the state of his relationship with the front office. "Unfortunately, I no longer want to be here," Parsons said. "I no longer want to be held to closed-door negotiations without my agent present. I no longer want shots taken at me for getting injured while laying it on the line for the organization, our fans, and my teammates. I no longer want narratives created and spread to the media about me." It's a scathing review of the trade saga that Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has led the former Penn State star down. Parsons was, unknowingly, having contract negotiations with Jones and the Cowboys, behind his agent's back. Jones also criticized Parsons for demanding a huge contract due to Parsons's missing time this past season. Jones initially claimed he missed six games, but really, he missed just four games and still managed 12 sacks. Now, a similar process is repeating, except this is a lot more noteworthy. This isn't an offseason free agent negotiation; it's contract talks that have fallen through, and a trade request from one of the best players in football. Expected to make over $40 million per year on his new deal, Parsons is requesting a trade and calling out Jerry Jones and the Cowboys for the saga surrounding his contract negotiations. Fellow Cowboys stars CeeDee Lamb and Dak Prescott also had similar contract negotiations, though neither requested a trade like Parsons has. Not only is he asking out, but he's also clearly expressing his frustration with the team over how they've handled things. The former Penn State star will have nearly every team interested in him, and could be on his way out of Dallas after just four years with the team. Though it'll take a haul, and Dallas is adamant that it's going nowhere, every team in the NFL is interested in Parsons.
