WATCH: Full Ohio State head coach Ryan Day interview with Josh Pate
Ever since Ohio State football head coach Ryan Day and the team went on a memorable run to win the first-ever 12-team College Football Playoff national championship, the head man has been making the rounds with the media. From late-night talk shows to radio appearances to podcasts, Day has been all over the place as an ambassador to the program that's trying to stay on top of the college football mountaintop.
Just recently, the latest media engagement Day was a part of was with Josh Pate of CBS Sports on his "Pate State Speaker Series," he's meandering through during the offseason. Pate has quickly become one of the sounding boards of college football with his methodical, well-analyzed, and well-balanced way of making sense of things in the sport, and it was no different with the Day pice.
Pate sat down with the national-championship-winning coach to discuss a wide range of topics, and the 43-minute segment is entertaining, thoughtful, and insightful. It's another example of how well Day does in handling the media, so much so that he was voted the FWAA's "Super 11 'Coach of the Year'" award for his availability and accessibility to the media.
If you didn't get a chance to watch the interview, we highly encourage you to do so. Day touches on losing assistant coaches, NIL, meeting expectations in a job like the one at Ohio State, and more.
I hope Ohio State fans and media members understand and recognize what a breath of fresh air it is to have Day as the head coach and how honest, available, and forthcoming he is with the media. Often times, head coaches have a combatant role with the media, but Day understands the relationship and how important it is to have a great one as the face of the OSU program.
This is just another example.

Ohio State Newly Predicted to Land Coveted Star
Ohio State Newly Predicted to Land Coveted Star originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Ohio State Buckeyes were previously predicted to make a big splash along the defensive line on the recruiting trail. On Tuesday, On3's Steve Wiltfong still projected that to happen. Advertisement Fellow On3's Chad Simmons also agreed. The official On3 Recruiting X account posted Tuesday that the latest predictions from both Wiltfong and Simmons have the Buckeyes landing a commitment from four-star defensive lineman Khary Wilder. "On3's Steve Wiltfong and Chad Simmons have logged expert predictions for Ohio State to land four-star DL Khary Wilder," wrote the account. That's the same prediction Wiltfong at the beginning of June. "Last week I wrote that I liked where Ohio State stood with touted defensive lineman Khary Wilder and have logged that On3 RPM as well," wrote Wiltfong. On Sunday, Ohio State received a commitment from four-star running back Favour Akih. Advertisement In addition to where they are with Wilder, Wiltfong also sees the Buckeyes in a great spot to land four-star offensive lineman Drew Evers. Wilder is the No. 23 edge rusher and No. 24 California prospect in the 2026 recruiting class according to the 247Sports composite rankings. Based on the same ratings, Wilder is also a top 250 recruit, coming in at No. 242 overall. The Buckeyes have the fourth-rated recruiting class according to 247Sports. But Ohio State has yet to land a commitment from an edge rusher. Standing at 6-foot-4 and 260 pounds, Wilder will play his senior year of high school at Junipero Serra in Gardena, California. Ohio State lands commitment from four-star DE Khary Wilder
Editor's Note: This article first appeared on the leader in college football and basketball recruiting coverage. Be the first to know and follow your teams by signing up here. Khary Wilder had many other top programs pursuing him but after spending a weekend at Ohio State and talking through the plan with that exceptional coaching staff, the four-star defensive end found his new home. On Tuesday, the four-star defensive end from Gardena (Calif.) Serra committed to the Buckeyes and is not planning any other visits. 'It was just seeing how much of a priority I am for them,' Wilder said. 'Spending time with coach (Larry) Johnson and coach (Ryan) Day, coach (Matt) Patricia and all the coaches, they made me feel like a real priority and like I was really wanted there and that was the place I could call home. 'It was great meeting them. It was great sitting down and hearing their plan for me to dominate throughout my college years, how they see me fitting, my skill set and what I can work on and how I can build on my game to even before I get there and while I'm there, too. 'Coach Johnson was giving me tips and drills on what I could work on now for little things about my game that I could perfect and do better.' Wilder has always had dreams of playing in the pros and the four-star defensive end who shined at the Rivals Camp in Los Angeles and will be at the Rivals Five-Star in a couple weeks is fully aware of all the success the Buckeyes have had across the board especially along the defensive line. He wants to be the next one. 'The NFL has always been the goal, that's been my dream, so seeing coach Johnson and Ohio State's track record of producing top-level d-linemen and NFL defensive ends, just seeing that really motivates me and encourages me,' Wilder said. 'If I'm a priority for them and they want me to come and they see me fitting and playing in their system and they're putting out so many NFL guys at my position, that's one step closer to my dream.' Notre Dame, Washington and UCLA were the other frontrunners but once Wilder finished his Ohio State visit, he knew what he was going to do. 'It was really hard to say no to all of them because they all spent time building a great relationship with me, reaching out, talking to my coaches and my family and making me feel like a priority, too,' Wilder said. 'It was a decision I had to make but I feel very confident in my decision with coach Johnson and coach Day and coach Patricia and their plan for me.'

SMU Football Makes Underrated Hire After Playoff Season
SMU Football Makes Underrated Hire After Playoff Season originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Rhett Lashlee and SMU Football have added a former Texas high school offensive coordinator to his support staff. According to Mike Roach of 247Sports, former North Texas staffer Matthew McHugh has taken over as the Mustangs director of player personnel. Advertisement For SMU, this is an underrated hire in the Lone Star State. McHugh joins the Mustangs at the right time as well. SMU is coming off an 11-3 record in their ACC debut season, where they lost to Clemson in the conference title game. But ultimately took a spot in the 12-team College Football Playoff and suffered a 38-10 loss to Penn State in the first round. However, there is a lot to be excited about in Dallas. Lashlee's team has proven to be a contender as the upcoming season approaches. The Mustangs offense rolls through quarterback Kevin Jennings as he enters the season with some preseason Heisman buzz. While he is considered a dark horse, expect the junior passer to turn heads in SMU's 'run it back' year.
