Man arrested after collision with EHS ambulance in Annapolis County, N.S.

THE CANADIAN PRESS/Darryl Dyck Annapolis County District RCMP are investigating a two-vehicle collision involving a EHS ambulance in Cornwallis Park, N.S. RCMP, fire services and EHS responded to reports of a two-vehicle crash shortly after midnight on June 22, an RCMP release said. Investigators learned a Ford Bronco was traveling east and an EHS ambulance was travelling west when they collided on Highway 1 near Passchendaele Street. The driver and lone occupant of the Bronco, a 30-year-old man from Cornwallis Park, was arrested at the scene for impaired operation causing bodily harm. He suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to hospital by EHS. The three paramedics traveling in the ambulance suffered non-life-threatening injuries. The 30-year-old man was later released and is scheduled to appear in Annapolis Royal provincial court on Sept. 8 to face criminal charges and summary offence tickets. Create Account Peel Regional Police said on June 12 several 911 calls were placed, reporting a pickup truck driving erratically near Dixie Rd. and the QEW and cops observed the vehicle driving northbound in the southbound lanes of Dixie Rd. Police attempted to intercept the black Ford F-250 but the driver allegedly refused to stop and fled at a high rate of speed and was seen driving on the sidewalk before colliding with several other vehicles and, at times, traveling more than twice the posted speed limit. Officers gave chase and the suspect struck a pole soon after, rendering his vehicle inoperable. It's alleged the suspect attempted to carjack another motorist to flee but was immediately apprehended by officers. No serious injuries were sustained by the other motorists. It was later discovered that the truck was stolen and equipped with counterfeit plates and it's alleged the suspect was under the influence of drugs. Gary Walker, of no fixed address, is unlicenced and subject of nine separate provincial driving prohibitions dating back to 2003. He has been charged with nine offences including failing to comply with release order, operation while impaired and robbery. Cops said that Walker has been convicted on numerous occasions for driving while impaired and driving while suspended. Bail was denied and he remains in custody.
