Green Day honored at Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony
Welcome to paradise Green Day. The rock band was celebrated in a Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony on Thursday, with their newly dedicated star joining the boulevard's sidewalk honors.
All three band members made it to Hollywood to receive their star in the category of Recording. Actor Ryan Reynolds spoke at the ceremony and attributed the band's longevity to a mix of respect and integrity. "Even though I've only known them a short while, it's beyond rare for a band to stay together the way they have, as a unit," he said.
Billie Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirnt and Tré Cool have been together since 1986, forming the punk band Green Day in Berkeley.
Green Day received a Hollywood star in the category of Recording.
Hollywood Walk of Fame
The five-time Grammy Award-winning Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees have put out 14 albums and sold more than 75 million records.
They released their breakout album "Dookie" in 1994, which sold over 10 million copies and earned the Grammy for Best Alternative Album.
In 2004, Green Day released the rock opera "American Idiot," selling more than 8 million copies in the U.S. alone and taking home the Grammy Award for Best Rock Album.
In 2010, a stage adaptation of "American Idiot" debuted on Broadway to critical and commercial acclaim.
In recent years, the band released their thirteenth studio album "Father of All," in 2020, and in 2024, "Saviors" came out.
After the speeches concluded at Thursday's ceremony, Armstrong dished out the thanks and joked, "Yeah this is kind of like being at your own funeral."
Green Day just finished their headlining weekend at Coachella, performing for over 200,000 people.
"I'm frankly blown away that they're only getting a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame now, what is the Chamber of Commerce doing all day long? This is crazy," Reynolds quipped.

But, now that Australia's three-time SailGP champions have unveiled two new co-owners—Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds—who will be joining team Driver and CEO Tom Slingsby in leading the freshly rebranded BONDS Flying Roos SailGP Team, it confirms that SailGP founders Russel Coutts and Larry Elision were right when they started the SailGP back in 2018. Sailboat racing can be exciting enough to attract celebrity team ownership--as long as the boats are fast, the venues are cool, the technology is cutting edge, and the racing is close enough to shore so fans can be part of the action. And I think we all can agree that it'd be hard to find cooler venue to watch a large fleet of hydrofoiling F50-catamarans scream around a racer course than NYC. Well, maybe watching the racing with Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds in the Adrenalin Lounge might be a little cooler? I'll let Ryan Reynolds explain. 'We're incredibly excited to set sail together in this new adventure. Hugh brings a deep love for and pride in his home country as well as being an avid fan of sailing. He will also be bringing his overly clingy emotional support human along for the ride.' 'This is an incredible milestone for us and for our sport, having global icons Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds come on board as co-owners of our team,' Slingsby says. So, yes, after writing about sailing and yachts for over 30-years, I can report this level of star-power is new to sailing. And that's just the most recent announcement. It was only last week when America's Cup legend Jimmy Spithill, (who's also CEO, founder, and co-owner of the Italian SailGP team) announced that the team had been acquired by a consortium of accomplished investors and sports industry leaders, including Hollywood royalty, Anne Hathaway. And it was only several weeks before that when I heard that the Tommy Hilfiger was going to be partnering with the US SailGP team for this season. Then I spoke to Tommy in person and realized he's still as involved and as passionate about sailing and the yachting lifestyle now as he was when he launched his first sailing line. 'I've always been inspired by bringing the worlds of fashion and sport together,' Hilfiger says. 'And today's fashion is leaning into an elevated and luxury lifestyle. 'The sailing collection builds on our heritage which was inspired by my archive. But we're also looking ahead. Especially at what Mike Buckley is doing with the US SailGP Team. It's much more modern. It's basically Formula 1 on the water.' Who is Mike Buckley you ask? Well, he's the outspoken co-owner/strategist of the current US SailGP team. And he's a full-on evangelist when he talks about bringing the excitement and mass market appeal of high-performance sailboat racing to a wider audience. So, I was not surprised when I heard he landed a partnership deal with Tommy. 'I'd been trying to get the Tommy Hilfiger brand back into sailing since I sent a cold DM to Tommy's Instagram account in 2018. Um…he didn't respond. Then in 2019, I was sitting on my couch watching the Met Gala, when all of a sudden, Tommy and his wife are on the red carpet decked out in red, white and blue. And then Lewis Hamilton cam in next. All decked out in Tommy Hilfiger. I knew it was a sign. 'So when we bought the team in 2023, Virginia Ritchie, their CMO, was one of the first people I reached out to. Of course, I told her about my unanswered DMs to Tommy. And she probably thought I was crazy. But we actually aligned pretty quickly." And while the US SailGP team might be at the bottom of the leaderboard at the moment. No one will argue with the fact that few images will communicate how much the SailGP has 'arrived' in NYC this year better than Buckley's US SailGP boat foiling in front of the Stature of Liberty with the iconic red, white, and blue Tommy Hilfiger logo on its high-performance wing sail. So, if you want to see the action for yourself. It's officially called the Mubadala New York Sail Grand Prix. It takes place Jun 7-8. Governors Island will be transformed into a waterfront Race Stadium where Rolex SailGP Championship leaders, Tom Slingsby's Australian team will be marking Emirates GBR and Spain who sit at second and third in the standings. Peter Burling and his New Zealand Black Foils are currently forth in the standings. And I can say from experience the views will be spectacular. See you there?

Review: ‘Alice's Adventures in Wonderland' is Joffrey Ballet's wacky and wonderful season closer
The Joffrey Ballet's season rarely extends this far into summer, but it's safe to say 'Alice's Adventures in Wonderland' was worth the wait. This beast of a ballet by the Tony Award-winning choreographer Christopher Wheeldon had its North American premiere at the Lyric Opera House on Thursday. If, like for me, Lewis Carroll's 1865 fairy tale about a girl who stumbles into Wonderland is a core memory, all those beloved characters are there, with a splendidly cogent (and at times delightfully grotesque) libretto. It's more Tim Burton than Disney, but you'll recognize moments no matter your preferred version (including my personal favorite, the 1985 TV movie musical starring Jayne Meadows and Carol Channing). Following a drowse-inducing garden party at her Victorian Oxford estate, Alice (magnificently danced Thursday by Amanda Assucena) awakens to find an anxiously tardy White Rabbit (Stefan Gonçalvez). She of course must follow him, kicking off a series of Don Quixote-style adventures with wild, wacky and terrifying characters. Letting her curiosity guide her, she encounters a tea party hosted by a tap-dancing Mad Hatter (Edson Barbosa) and a slithering Cheshire Cat (whose dismantlement is made possible by a corps of dancer-puppeteers). Indeed, 'Alice's Adventures in Wonderland' will resonate strongly with those who adore 'Alice' — so much so that Joffrey extended the production to three weekends before it opened. In any case, exploiting its usefulness as a ballet was far overdue. There is much within Wheeldon's zany world for everyone to admire. Very small children may not appreciate some scarier moments, most notably a scene at the Duchess' house, in which viewers quite literally see how the sausage gets made. The brutish Duchess (Dylan Gutierrez) and her ax-wielding cook (Lucia Connolly) contribute some of the night's most, um, salient imagery. The pair of them (along with henchmen Valentino Moneglia Zamora, Hyuma Kiyosawa and Xavier Núñez) are terrifically terrifying. 'Alice's' third and final act is devoted almost wholly to the search for who stole the Queen of Hearts' tart. It begins with a game of croquet, played with bendy flamingoes on pointe as the mallets, striking adorable summersaulting hedgehogs. This not-so-regal realm, ruled by prima ballerina Victoria Jaiani as supreme leader, embarks on a tribunal when it's uncovered that the Knave of Hearts — a two-eyed Jack danced by the princely Alberto Velazquez — is most likely the offender and about to lose his head. Hilarity ensues. As hard as it will be to peel your eyes from Jaiani, every once in a while, be sure to glimpse her ridiculous King (marking David Gombert's glorious return to the Joffrey stage 15 years after retirement). There are tender moments, too, particularly in a satisfyingly sweet duet for Assucena and Velazquez as Alice tries to accept the blame in tart-gate. She eventually prevails, if only by waking up back in Oxford. If there's a lesson to be learned from 'Alice's Adventures in Wonderland,' it might be that taking the blame for your boyfriend's impropriety could turn out poorly. That, and vindictive, power-hungry leaders whose kingdoms are built on a literal house of cards are not likely to succeed. Cleverly, 'Alice' borrows hallmarks from the ballets of Carroll's time, winking at canonical works like 'The Nutcracker,' 'Sleeping Beauty' and 'Cinderella.' There's a waltz of flowers; a for our protagonist and her scrappy love interest; a hilariously satirized 'Rose Adagio' for the Queen of Hearts and four suitors (in this case, hearts and clubs); and a shirtless, hookah-smoking sultan-turned-Caterpillar (Jonathan Dole) performing a seductive take on 'the worm' with a quartet of scantily clad temple women. I'm pretty sure we didn't need that last one when 'Alice' premiered in London in 2011, and I'm certain we don't need it in 2025 — though I'll take the cameo of academy kids as sparkly pointe-shoed caterpillar legs all day, every day, plus Sunday. To be clear, such tongue-and-cheek references now to 19th century ballet are generally welcome and especially fun for those who see the parallels — perhaps even more so to those familiar with Wheeldon's catalog, too, which includes Joffrey's nearly decade-old 'Nutcracker.' In some instances, that ballet and this one parrot one another; Wheeldon went so far as to use some of the exact same ideas in his 'Nutcracker's' transformation and snow scenes, further tugging the plot parallels to these two coming-of-age stories set in magical fairy lands that may or may not have all been a dream. But 'Alice's' superpowers, all due respect to 'The Nutcracker,' are its magnificently evocative original score (by Joby Talbot) and Wheeldon's pinpointed attention to detail in every character, masterfully embraced by the Joffrey's excellent dancers, whose full-throttled performances and comedic prowess grab you and hold on for the entirety of this (very, very long) spectacle. Another thing: Wheeldon's imagination could only run this wild in a superbly-crafted Wonderland, made possible through the ingenuity of scenic and costume designer Bob Crowley, lighting designer Natasha Katz, projectionists Jon Driscoll and Gemma Carrington and puppeteer Toby Olié — seamlessly executed by a Joffrey team that, frankly, has never attempted something this big. 'Alice' was originally created for London's Royal Ballet, a company of 100 dancers and nearly 10 times Joffrey's budget. Until Thursday, it had not been performed this side of the Atlantic. Pulling it off was going to be a challenge. But they did. And Wonderland turned out to be a risk that will pay off in Joffrey Ballet presents 'Alice's Adventures in Wonderland' (4 stars) When: Through June 22 Where: Lyric Opera House, 20 N. As far as who exactly Denzel Washington would play in "Black Panther 3", Coogler is keeping that to himself. That hasn't stopped fans from speculating, of course, with some even guessing his character might be from another part of Marvel's multiverse and could be a variant of T'Challa's father T'Chaka, or perhaps even T'Challa himself. One popular fan-casting is the villain Achebe, who was created as a kind of eccentric mix between Kaiser Soze of "The Usual Suspects" fame and the Joker. Not possessed of any special abilities, Achebe instead manipulates his ways into political power in Wakanda. Very little is known about "Black Panther 3" including whether or not it has a firm release date.
